Sale season commenced in spectacular fashion this week at Roscrea Mart. A high-quality entry of bulls drew interest from a nationwide customer base, resulting in a near-total clearance of 98% and an impressive average of €7,778 – this is a new sale average for the breed.

The depth of demand was underscored by three bulls breaking the €10,000 barrier. Auctioneers George Candler and Darren Hession worked a lively floor for the duration of the sale, reflecting the strong appetite for quality Limousin genetics.

Junior Champion – Brookland Van Damme

Reserve Junior Champion Brookland Van Damme – €12,500

Lot 48. Topping the sale was the outstanding Junior Champion BROOKLAND VAN DAMME, a son of Knock Msport. Van Damme was bred by Tom and John Hickey, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. His dam is the home bred Goldies Jackpot daughter Brookland Nakita. Van Damme is a double carrier of the F94L gene. Oozing style and class he was the pick of a pedigree herd based in the south east at a selling price of €12,500.

Reserve Junior Champion LISNA VIGGO – €11,400

Lot 45. The Reserve Junior Champion was LISNA VIGGO, a powerful son of Tomschoice Lexicon. Viggo was one of five exceptional bulls presented at the show and sale by Dermot Shaughnessy, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. Viggo is a double F94L carrier. His dam Lisna Millie has Doudou T.d. and Milbrook Dartangan in her lineage. He was purchased by an Offaly based farmer for €11,400.

Senior Champion LISNA VUMAX – €11,000

Lot 26. From the same yard came the striking Senior Champion LISNA VUMAX. Born in September 2024, Vumax is a son of Ampertaine Elgin and the Ampertaine Gigolo dam Lisna Meze (a great producer with her 2023 born calf selling as Senior Champion at the March 2025 Premier sale for €12,200). Vumax carries both the F94L gene and the Q204X. He was purchased by a county Kerry based suckler herd for €11,000.

First prize winner LISNA VEXICON – €9,600

Lot 43. Continuing the marvellous days trading for Dermot Shaughnessy was red rosette winner LISNA VEXICON who sold for €9,600. Vexicon is a son of Tomschoice Lexicon and the Ampertaine Foreman dam Lisna Nacchie. Carrying two copies of the F94L gene, this exceptionally long young bull was the pick of a Waterford based purchaser.

The strength of the trade continued as the €9,000 mark was cleared, highlighted by interest from major industry players and AI stations.

Third prize winner TEMPLEQUAIN VICTOR – €9,500

Lot 1. The first bull into the ring in Roscrea was Third prize winner TEMPLEQUAIN VICTOR, from the Rathdowney based herd of Brendan O’Shea. Victor is a son of Knock Msport and the Whinfellpark Lomu dam Templequain Selena (a first prize winner at the National show in 2023). Victor is a double F94L carrier. He was acquired by a Roscommon based farmer for €9,500.

Fourth prize winner SHANNON VIPER – €9,500

Lot 11. Renowned Kerry based breeder Sarah McElligott accepted €9,500 for her Fourth prize winner SHANNON VIPER. This double F94L carrier is a son of Knock Msport and Shannon Leay (Day X Cloughhead Lord). Born in July 2024, Viper was the pick of a county Meath based purchaser.

Second prize winner KELTIC VITO – €9,200

Lot 35. Heading to a pedigree herd based in county Limerick is the second prize winner KELTIC VITO, bred by Teleri Thomas, Longwood, Co. Meath. Vito is steeped in Keltic genetics, he is a son of rising star Keltic Rembrandt and the Bavardage daughter Keltic Irene. Seventeen month old Vito sold for €9,200.

TEMPLEQUAIN VIPER – €9,100

Lot 2. TEMPLEQUAIN VIPER, bred by Brendan O’Shea sold for €9,100. Viper is a son of Knock Msport and the Loosebeare Fantastic dam Templequain Lavender. Viper boasts top 1% indices for Terminal and Carcass traits. He heads to a new home with a renowned suckler farmer in Co. Westmeath.

Reserve Senior Champion TEMPLEQUAIN VANCE – €9,100

Lot 33. From the same yard came the Reserve Senior Champion TEMPLEQUAIN VANCE. This son of the overall Limousin Champion at the 29th National Show “Carrickmore Maximus Et” sold for €9,100. Vance has one copy of the F94L gene and one copy of the Q204X gene. Vance heads to a new home in Co. Cavan.

Lot 10. Topping off a phenomenal day at the ringside for Sarah McElligott was the first-prize winner SHANNON VISION who commanded a price of €9,000. Vision is a son of Jurancon and the Hamac daughter, Shannon Marymac. This lineage carries significant prestige in France where both Jurancon and Hamac remain highly sought, however, they are no longer available. Nineteen month old Vision is a double F94L carrier. With his rare out-cross pedigree and immense physical style Vision was identified as the ideal package for Dovea Genetics expansive Limousin stud. The inclusion of Shannon Vision in the Irish AI market in the future will contribute to strengthening the national Limousin gene pool.

Quality remained at the forefront as several high-index bulls commanded prices in excess of €8,000, confirming the demand for proven bloodlines.

Third prize winner CORCAMORE VALYRIAN – €8,600

Lot 13. Third prize winner CORCAMORE VALYRIAN sold for €8,600. This August 2024 born bull is one of two Ampertaine Metric sired lots sold at the sale. Valyrian is the first calf of the Kaprico Eravelle daughter Corcamore Stacey. Carrying two copies of the F94L gene, this powerful bull was the pick of a Wexford based suckler herd. Valyrian was bred by Orla Curtin, Clarina, Limerick.

BALLYKINNCURRA VENTURA – €8,300

Lot 23. Continuing the demand for Knock Msport sons was BALLYKINNCURRA VENTURA from John and Sean Moroney, Corofin, Co. Clare who sold for €8,300. Ventura’s dam Thomastown Kate 2 has Bavardage and Sympa in her sire stack. This September 2024 born bull is a double F94L carrier and was the pick of a county Meath based purchaser.

First prize winner CARREFOUR VENTURA – €8,200

Lot 4. Heading to the Kingdom is first prize winner CARREFOUR VENTURA, from John Kenny, Birr, Offaly. Ventura is son of Grangeford Jojo and the Kaprico Eravelle daughter Carrefour Nora. Born in May 2024, Ventura boasts a copy of the F94L gene and a copy of the Q204X gene. The hammer fell at €8,200 for this striking bull.

SHANKLOUGH VIRGIL – €8,200

Lot 18. The second son of Ampertaine Metric on offer SHANKLOUGH VIRGIL sold for €8,200. Virgil was presented by Mervyn Kneafsey, Ballina, Co. Mayo. His homebred dam Shanklough Sharon 2 has Millington Leslie and Norman Inventor in her sire stack. This double F94L carrier was purchased by a Tipperary farmer.

Lot 30. WOOD ROAD VICTOR ET, a son of Ampertaine Foreman sold for €8,200. Victor’s dam Wood Road Jacinta Et (a daughter of Wilodge Vantastic) is an outstanding producer, at last year’s National show her son Wood Road Vernon ET stood as overall male Champion (he sold at the Roscrea Premier October sale for €15,000), while her daughter Wood Road Valentina Et was a class winner in Tullamore, Valentina is a full sister to Victor. Victor carries both the F94L and the Q204X genes, he was bred by Noel Fennessy, Castleconnell, Co. Limerick and now heads to a Laois based purchaser.

Lot 62. Bertie Mannion presented the youngest bull in the catalogue, BALLYLINE ANDY, a January 2025 born son of Shannon Stan. Andy was awarded First prize in his show class. He is a double F94L carrier and was the pick of a Monaghan based purchaser for €8,200. Andy is one of the first Shannon Stan sons to come to market. Stan has Tomschoice Lexicon and Edakkya in his pedigree.

Lot 44. Also bred by Bertie Mannion was the Third prize winner BALLYLINE VANCE, who commanded a selling price of €8,000. Vance is a son of Plumtree Fantastic and the Mereside Godolphin dam Ballyline Tessa. October 2024 born Vance was the pick of a Roscommon based customer.

Lot 40. Heading to Donegal is the Third prize winner BRICKHILL VENTURA. Born in October 2024, Ventura’s pedigree includes Knock Msport, Mereside Godolphin and Plumtree Fantastic. Ventura was bred by Michael and David McInerney, Cratloe, Co. Clare. He carries two copies of the F94L gene and commanded a price of €8,000.

Lot 47. Dermot Shaughnessy returned to the ring with his fourth prize winner LISNA VPRINCE 2, a November 2024 born son of Aughalion Prince Et. Vprince 2 is a stylish double F94L carrier. His lineage also includes Elderberry Galahad and Ampertaine Foreman. He was acquired by a Laois based purchaser for €8,000.

Lot 56. The Nebbiolo son DROMBANNY VISION found a new abode in Newry, Co. Down for €8,000. Vision was bred in county Limerick by Pat Sheahan. His dam Drombanny Rainbow has Cameos and Wilodge Vantastic in her sire stack. He boasted the highest daughter milk figure in the catalogue at +7.8kg. He has two copies of the F94L gene.

A brisk and consistent trade saw a strong run of bulls surpassing the €7,000 mark

Lot 32. Darren and Tony Hartnett, Athlone presented CLONBONNY VICTORIOUS, a son of Plumtree Fantastic at the sale. Victorious’s dam Clonbonny Rena has Gamin and Casimir in her lineage. Born in September 2024, Victorious has a copy of the F94L and the Q204X genes. He was the pick of a Kerry based bidder for €7,900.

Lot 61. Fourth prize winner BALLYLINE ANDREW commanded a price of €7,800. Andrew has Shannon Stan, Lodge Hamlet and Castleview Gazelle in his sire stack. Born in January 2025, he is a double F94L carrier. He was bred by Bertie Mannion, Athlone, Roscommon and returns to his home county.

Lot 7. Also heading to a new home in Roscommon is the Second prize winner LURGANKEEL VERSACE ET. This June 2024 born bull is a son of Ampertaine Foreman and the Plumtree Fantastic dam Ballybrown Sally Ann Et. He was bred by Malachy Byrne, Dundalk, Co. Louth. He boasts two copies of the F94L gene and commanded a price of €7,700.

Lot 28. Finishing off a great day’s trading for Dermot Shaughnessy was his third prize winner LISNA VENTOR. Born in September 2024, Ventor is a son of Aughalion Prince Et and Lisna Kiley by Ampertaine Foreman. Ventor has a single copy of the F94L and the Q204X genes. He was tapped down to a Roscommon based purchaser for €7,700.

Lot 50. Limerick breeder Pat Sheahan returned to the ring with DROMBANNY VOLVO, a son of Jaurel. Born in November 2024, Volvo is a double F94L carrier. His dam, the Hamac daughter Drombanny Nougat is a consistent breeder with an exceptional average calving interval of 342 days. Volvo was the pick of a Meath based purchaser for €7,600.

Lot 58. Ardnacrusha, Co. Clare based Darragh O’Meara accepted €7,300 for HURRICANE AQUAMAN. This second prize winner is a son of Pabo Rocknroll and the Ampertaine Elgin dam Hurricane Lady Hawk Et (a cow who has produced the Junior Champion in Roscrea in 2022 Hurricane Scatman ET and the Reserve Junior in October 2024 Hurricane Ultrabeat ET). Aquaman was the pick of a Clare based bidder.

Lot 36. The Telfers Munster son AMMAGHMORE VICEROY was awarded fourth prize in his class in the presale show. Viceroy was bred by Sean Garrett, Ballycastle, Co. Mayo. He is a carrier of both the F94L and the NT821 genes. Born in October 2024, his dam Ammaghmore Marigold has Ampertaine Foreman and Omer-Mn in her sire stack. He heads to a new home in Roscommon with a sale price of €7,200.

Lot 57. Noel Fennessy returned to the ring with his Third prize winning Keltic Rembrandt son WOOD ROAD VANDER. Born in December 2024 and carrying two copies of the F94L gene, Vander was the pick of a county Monaghan based purchaser for €7,200. Vander is the first born calf of Wood Road Tara, a Wood Road Harvey daughter and Wood Road Jacinta (the dam of Noel’s 2025 prize winning show team).

Lot 38. Galway bound REDBAWN VORAN sold for €7,000. Voran is a stylish son of Tomschoice Lexicon and the Grangeford Jojo dam Redbawn Rozy. Voran was born in October 2024 and is a double F94L gene carrier. He was bred by Ian Kilgallon, Ballina, Co. Mayo.
