Our second society sale of the year took place at Gort Mart on Friday evening, April 10th, where a brisk trade met a top price of €11,800. Despite inclement weather, a packed ringside of buyers travelled from near and far to secure quality bulls and heifers.

The senior champions breached the five-figure mark – a standout son of Pabo Rocknroll commanded the top price of €11,800, while the reserve senior champion followed at €10,200.

Overall, the sale achieved an 84% clearance for bulls with a phenomenal average of €6,233 – this is the third highest priced sale on record. The sale here in Gort surpassed the April sale in Athenry of 2025 by €174. The female trade was equally strong, with 12 of the 13 heifers on offer finding new homes.

Auctioneer Darren Hession took command for the sale of the senior bulls, while George Candler returned to the podium to preside over the younger bulls and the heifers. Both were kept busy throughout the evening, navigating bids from both the packed ringside and very active online bidders. The sustained demand across all classes ensured a fast-paced trade from start to finish, reflecting the confidence in the Limousin breed.

Our pre-sale show judge was Sarah McElligott of the Shannon herd, based in Asdee, Co. Kerry. Sarah is not only a highly regarded judge but also a very successful and well-established breeder in her own right. Her standing in breeding circles is well-known, with several bulls bearing the Shannon prefix currently standing in Irish AI stations.

Show judge Sarah McElligott
