Our final spring show and sale of 2026 took place on Saturday, May 23rd, at Roscommon Mart. In what proved to be a great sign-off to the spring sales season, we saw a 98% clearance for bulls with an average of €6,123 (€389 from last years sale at this venue, with an extra 21 bulls sold) and a 100% clearance for the small number of heifers on offer with an average of €4,533. Three bulls were acquired by Northern Ireland based purchasers.

Mr. Martin Davis was tasked with judging the pre-sale show. Martin runs the well-known Castlebrock herd in partnership with his brother, Gerard, in Ballinalee, Co. Longford. The Castlebrock prefix is synonymous with quality, having produced countless show standouts and sale toppers, including Castlebrock Iceman, who previously sold for €28,000.

Sale Leaders

Lot 57. Securing the top price of the day at €10,200 was CREENAGH ALFRED, a first-prize-winning son of Keltic Rembrandt. Alfred’s dam, Creenagh Serena, is a daughter of Ampertaine Elgin. Alfred is a single carrier of both the F94L and Q204X genes. Bred by Pat Logan from Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim, he drew strong interest both ringside and online before being acquired by a Northern Ireland-based purchaser.

Lot 29. The outstanding Reserve Senior Champion DROMALTY VIDUKA, is heading to a new home in “The Kingdom” after selling for €9,600. Born in December 2024, Viduka is a son of Knock Msport and out of the Norman Invertor dam, Newtown Top Girl. He is a double F94L carrier. Viduka was bred by Aidan and Eamon O’Donovan of Cappamore, Co. Limerick.

Lot 49. Dermot Shaugnessy, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway continued his winning ways by presenting both the Senior and Junior Champions. The Junior Champion LISNA APOLLO, is a February 2025 born son of Loyal, and out of Lisna Master, a Plumtree Fantastic daughter. A carrier of both the F94L and the Q204X genes, he was acquired by a Co. Louth based purchaser for €9,100.

Lot 68. Local breeder Bertie Mannion saw his impressive pen of five young bulls achieved a superb average price of €7,620. Leading the way at €8,700 was the 14-month-old BALLYLINE ALEXANDER, a double F94L carrier sired by Tomschoice Lexicon. Having earlier been awarded the Reserve Junior Champion sash, Alexander sparked a flurry of bids before eventually being secured by a Kerry-based farmer.

Lot 20. CLOONCARREEN VIBRANT, first prize winning son of Nebbiolo was the pick of a county Louth based farmer at a selling price of €8,000. Vibrant carries both the F94L and the NT821 genes. His dam Newtown Treasure is a daughter of Cameos. This stylish 18 month old bull was bred by Brian Faughnan, Bornacoola, Co. Leitrim.

Lot 35. Our judges pick of Senior Champion was the stylish Lisna Sir son LISNA AMARUS from the herd of Dermot Shaughnessy. His sire stack includes Tomschoice Lexicon, On-Dit, Plumtree Fantastic and Wilodge Formulaone. January 2025 born Amarus carries a copy of both the F94L and the Q204X genes. He was the pick of a NI based customer for €8,000.

Lot 60. Heading to new homes in Galway at selling prices of €8,000 are two of Bertie Mannion’s young bulls. First at this price is BALLYLINE ALEX, a smashing second prize winner. Alex has Tomschoice Lexicon and Mereside Godolphin in his lineage. He is a double F94L gene carrier.

Lot 69. Fourteen month old BALLYLINE ALAN also from Bertie Mannion was awarded third place in his presale class. Alan is a son of Mereside Godolphin and Ballyline Norma, a Goldies Jackpot daughter. Alan is a double F94L gene carrier.

Strong Trade at 7,000–7,700

Lot 12. The stylish double F94L carrying Slieve Pablo son DREWSTOWN VIP, was the pick of a well-known Westmeath based commercial herd for €7,700. VIP’s dam Caherlevoy Tinkey, is a daughter of Whinfellpark Lomu. VIP was placed second in his show class. September 2024 born VIP was bred by Tony and Elaine Madden of Navan, Co. Meath.

Lot 76. Thirteen month old GREEN HILL ALFIE, a blue rosette winner, is heading to a new abode in Galway at a price of €7,600. Alfie is a son of Green Hill Ultan 2 (Grenache X Cavelands Jolly) and Green Hill Roxanne (Procters Commander X Vagabond). He was bred by Damien McLoughlin, Ballina, Co. Mayo. Alfie is a double F94L carrier.

Lot 63. Galway bound BALLYLINE ALFIE was placed second in his class. Alfie has Tomschoice Lexicon, Moondharrig Knell and Castleview Gazelle in his sire stack. Boasting two copies of the F94L gene Alfie sold for €7,300. Alfie was bred by Bertie Mannion.

Lot 64. Adrian Kelly from Castlerea presented CARROWBEHY ANDY at the sale. Andy is a son of Tweeddale Lennox. He is a double F94L carrier. Fourteen month old Andy has a calving ease prediction of 1.7%. A county Clare based farmer acquired Andy for €7,200.

Lot 73. First prize winning Plumtree Fantastic sired GLORE ANDIE sold for €7,100. Andie’s dam Glore Tianna is a daughter of Wilodge Cerberus. He has a copy of the F94L and the Q204X genes. Andie was bred by Declan Waldron, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo. He was purchased by a Wexford based farmer.

Bulls from €6,000 to €6,900

Lot 13. KILSKEAGH VESTED 2, a fourth prize winning son of Nebbiolo sold for €6,900. Vested 2 was bred in Athenry by Patrick Gill. His dam Kilskeagh Shannon has Mereside Godolphin and Ronick Hawk in her lineage. Vested 2 is heading to a new home in Tyrone.

Lot 38. Well related PORTAUNS AMAZING was snapped up for €6,600 by a Roscommon based purchaser. Amazing is a son of Ewdenvale Ivor and Portauns Mystical Lady (a Wilodge Joskins daughter). He is the full brother to Portauns T Junction Champion at Athenry in April 2024. This third prize winner carries a copy of both the F94L and the Q204X genes. He was bred by John and Laurence Lynch, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick.

Lot 46. From the same herd and selling at the same price of €6,600 came PORTAUNS ANDROMAN. Fifteen month old Androman has Ampertaine Commander, Bavardage and Wilodge Tonka in his sire stack. Androman has a predicted calving ease figure of 1.9%. He was purchased by a county Louth based farmer.

Lot 50. Heading to a new home in Tipperary is LOCHANBOY ANTHONY from the Ballyhaunis based herd of John Flanagan. Anthony has Hector Gd, Moondharrig Knell and Tomschoice Impertial in his sire stack. This fifteen month old bull is a double F94L carrier and sold for €6,600.

Lot 25. Six thousand four hundred euro was top call for SKEHANA VTEC from the herd of Martin Hansberry, Ballinasloe, Galway. Vtec is a son Lisna Sir and the Fieldson Alfy dam Skehana Kimberley. He is a carrier of both the F94L and the NT821 genes. This third prize winner is heading to new home in Sligo.

Lot 37. SLIABH BLOOM ARCHIE, a son of Telfers Munster sold for €6,400. January 2025 born Archie is a double F94L carrier. His dam Sliabh Bloom Mollie Et has Ampertaine Commander and Ronick Hawk in her sire stack. Archie was bred by Daniel Weston, Portlaoise and was acquired by an Athlone based purchaser.

Lot 9. BOYANAGH VAMP, also a son of Telfers Munster sold for €6,300. Vamp placed fourth in his show class. He was bred in Castlerea by Mary Tarpey. Vamp was acquired by a Cavan based farmer.

Lot 6. Red rosette winner SHANKLOUGH VAGABOND sold for €6,100. Vagabond has Vagabond, Millington Leslie and Lodge Hamlet in his lineage. He was bred by Mervyn Kneafsey, Ballina, Co. Mayo and was acquired by a Clare based purchaser.

Lot 18. CURRANE VEGAS sold for €6,100. Vegas has Aughalion Prince Et, Ampertaine Foreman and Ronick hawk in his sire stack. He is a double F94L carrier. October 24 born Vegas was bred by Michale McKeown, Castlebar. He heads to a new home in Galway.

Lot 33. Two Shannon Stan sons sold for €6,100. First at this price was JOLLIE FARMS APPLE from the Knockcroghery, Roscommon based Jollie Farms. Apple was born in January 2025 to the Plumtree Fantastic daughter Ballyline Sandie. He is an F94L and Q204X gene carrier. He heads to a new home in Longford.

Lot 55. The second Shannon Stan son to sell for €6,100 was third prize winner BALLYLINE AUSTIN. Bred by Bertie Mannion, Austin is a double F94L carrier. His dam Ballyline P 707 is a daughter of Keltic Handsome. Austin was purchased by a Cavan based purchaser.

Lot 10. BOYANAGH VIRTUAL from the herd of Mary Tarpey was the first of six bulls to reach €6,000. Virtual is a son of Loyal with Ampertaine Foreman and Teddy in his lineage. Born in September 2024, Virtual heads to a new home in Galway.

Lot 16. Martin Hansberry, Ballinasloe sold his 19 month old bull SKEHANA VISCOUNT for €6,000. Viscount has Nebbiolo, Castleview Gazelle and Fieldson Alfie in his sire stack. This double F94L carrier placed third in his class. He heads to a farmer in Roscommon.

Lot 26. Elphin based breeder Pat Bruen presented a Grangeford Jojo son CARROWREAGH VANCELET at the sale. Vancelet placed second in his show class. His dam Carrowreagh Precious is a daughter of Bavardage. Vancelet was acquired by a purchaser from his home county of Roscommon for €6,000.

Lot 39. Sixteen month old CLOONGREHAN ARCHIE ET also found a new home for €6,000. Archie has Ampertaine Elgin, Dinmore Jacot and Sympa in his sire stack. Archie was bred by Alan O’Hara from Boyle. This double F94L carrier heads to a new howe in Tipperary.

Lot 45. SKEALON ALFY ET, a Knock Msport son from the Cavan based O’Reilly family sold for €6,000. Alfy placed second in his show glass. His dam Knockcroghery Kardashian Et has Lowerffrydd Empire and Sympa in her lineage. Alfy is a double F94L carrier, he was purchased by a Galway based customer.

Lot 53. Heading to Sligo is fourteen month old MOOHANE ARCHIE from the Newmarket On Fergus based herd of John Meehan. Archie has Hector Gd, Attirant and Ronick Hawk in his sire stack. He is a F94L and Q204X carrier.

Heifers

Three heifers from the Claremorris based herd of Thomas Holleran were offered for sale at today’s sale.

Lot 80. Winning the Champion Female sash was the two and half year old CORRIB VIEW UNIFORM 2 a daughter of Ardlea Rolex. Uniform 2 is a double F94L carrier. She is due to calf in October to Nebbiolo. Uniform 2 sold for €5,200.

Lot 81. CORRIB VIEW VIRGINIA stood as Reserve champion. Virginia has Keltic Handsome and Hirohito in her sire stack. She is due to calf in October to Lodge Hamlet. Virginia sold for €3,900.

Lot 82. April 2024 born CORRIB VIEW VANESSA sold for €4,500. Vanessa is a daughter of Loyal. She is due to calf in September to Keltic Handsome.
