Demand for quality Limousin heifers was met with a 77% clearance at the first every combined Cork and South West Clubs heifer sale, which was held in Roscrea mart on Saturday the 4th of September.
An exceptional line up of heifers, many of which were equal in quality to Premier sale standard, resulted in nationwide interest. The sale was conducted with customers at the ringside and also using the Martbids platform. Three heifers found new homes in Northern Ireland.
Topping the sale at €4,300 was CORCAMORE POPPET, an August 2019 maiden heifer from the Curtin family of Clarina, Co. Limerick. Poppet’s sire is Mereside Godolphin, she is the first calf for her dam Corcamore Libby, a home bred daughter of Progressive Genetics’ Castleview Gazelle. Poppet carries two copies of the F94L gene. After a flurry of bids from both the ringside and online Poppet was tapped down to a county Meath based purchaser, she is the first pedigree Limousin for the purchasers family as they embark on a new enterprise.
WOOD ROAD PEARL, from the renowned Limerick herd of Noel Fennessy, Castleconnell, Co. Limerick, was acquired by Tipperary based farmer. Pearl is steeped in show champion bloodlines – her sire Wood Road Malachy is a son of Claque X Sympa, while her dam Wood Road Holly is a daughter of Nadia B X Wilodge Vantastic. Pearl sold scanned in-calf to Plumtree Fantastic.
First time exhibitor Vincent O’Sullivan, Beara, Co. Cork sold his two year old Usse heifer INCHINTAGLIN PRINCE for €3,000 to a dual purchaser from county Limerick. Princes’ dam Inchintaglin Jayla is a daughter of Lennon Frosty. Usse is from the Eurogene AI catalogue.

Seamus O’Brien from Killarney, Co. Kerry presented the youngest heifer on offer GREENACRES RUTH. Born in October 2020, Ruth was one of two heifers purchased by the established Limerick based breeder. Ruth is a daughter of Bova AI’s Loyal, her dam Roundhill Lunanime 1689 was purchased at the Biannual heifer sale of the Roundhill and Castleview herds in 2018. Ruth selling price was €2,800.
The Gaggin herd of PJ Hegarty, Bandon, Co. Cork presented three heifers all of whom found new homes in NI. GAGGIN RICHEL ET, a January 2020 born daughter of Wilodge Enrico and Gaggin Impress (a Castleview Gringo Et) daughter. Richel was acquired for €2,600. Her herd-mate GAGGIN PRINCESS ET sold for €2,500. Princess is daughter of Wilodge Formulaone and Gaggin Daisy, a Bremore Tonto daughter. PJ’s December 2019 born heifer GAGGIN PICTURE sold for €2,000. Picture has Plumtree Fantastic, Emerson and Roundhill Nero in her sire stack. The club had arrangements in place to facilitate free export to NI.
SHANNON ROSANA, one of four heifers from Sarah McElligott, Asdee, Co. Kerry, was purchased for €2,600. Rosana is a daughter of Kaprico Eravelle, her dam Shannon Marymac has Hamac and Ampertaine Commander in her sire stack. Fifteen month old Rosana was purchased by Limerick based farmer. SHANNON ROXIE, a 13-month old daughter of the ILCS French bull Bel Orient sold for €2,500 to a county Laois based farmer. Selling for €2,350 was SHANNON RITA JT, a daughter of the Cameos son JT and the Ardlea Dan dam, Shannon Izzy. Sarah’s final heifer SHANNON RAMONA sold to an established herd for €2,050. Ramona is a daughter of Dovea Genetics renowned producer Elderberry Galahad (EBY) and the Bavardage dam Shannon Mandy Et.
DROMBANNY RASCAL, a 10-month old daughter of Hotel (Bavardage X ibis) sold for €2,500. Rascal was bred in Drombanna, Co. Limerick by the Sheahan family. This stylish young heifer returns to her native Limerick to a growing pedigree herd.
Brendan Curtin sold his Plumtree Fantastic heifer CORCAMORE PLUM to a Wicklow based purchaser for €2,200. Twenty month old Plum carries two copies of the F94L gene.
The Lodge Hamlet daughter COOLFERN PATRICE from the Killorglin based herd of Tom O’Leary sold to a Tipperary based customer for €2,000.
DROMBANNY ROSE also found a new home in Tipperary for €1,850. Rose has Armoric, Ampertaine Gigolo and Lino in her sire stack.

UPCOMING SALE – BEGSRIEVE HERD – DISPERSAL
Next Saturday the Begsrieve herd of Dermot Rowe will be dispersed in Carnaross Mart – a total of 50 pedigree Limousin females will be on offer on Saturday 11th September 2021. This sale is the second half of a complete dispersal – half of the herd were dispersed in August 2020.
This sale offers an opportunity to purchase quality animals from a long established herd founded in 1984 where the emphasis has been on using the best genetics available to breed functionally correct quality animals which are easily fed.
