Tullamore sale was held, under strict Covid-19 guidelines, after the lapse of a year on Saturday 20th March 2021. The sale resulted in a 71% clearance of the bulls on offer and a 100% of the females. Bulls ranged from €4,900 to €2,200 with an average price of €3035 (this is up €370 on the 2019 sale).

OLDTOWN PADDY, an outstanding Ampertaine Commander son sold for the top price of the sale €4900. August 2019 born Paddy was bred in Thurles, Co. Tipperary by William and Brendan Hogan. Paddy’s dam the homebred Oldtown Lillie is a daughter of Elderberry Galahad. With five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter Milk, Paddy ticked all the boxes for Roscommon based Liam Ford.

Well known Kerry breeder Sarah McElligott presented three bulls at the sale, topping the consignment from Sarah’s herd was the Hamac son SHANNON PIRATE. This July 2019 born bull carries five star ratings in almost all indexes, including Replacement at €139 and Terminal at €140. Pirate’s dam is the Lino daughter Shannon Alice. After a flurry of bids the hammer fell at €3900 to James Murphy, Co. Offaly.

Pat Sheahan, Drombanna, Co. Limerick sold his stylish September 2019 born bull DROMBANNY PUNCH for €3050. Punch is the first calf of the homebred Queenshead Altea daughter Drombanny Maple. He carries two copies of the F94L gene and five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. Eighteen month old Punch was the pick of Edward Conway from Co. Kilkenny.

The Engy son SHANNON PORTER was the second bull on offer from Sarah McElligott. Porter boasts an array of five star ratings and is predicted to be easy calving. His dam Shannon Kisandra has On-Dit and Ronick Hawk in her back pedigree. Fergus Geraghty, Kilbeggan, Co. Westmeath was the successful bidder for Porter at €3.050.

Keith Vickery of the well-known Carbery herd, which is based in Rosscarbery, Co. Cork offered two young bulls at the sale – CARBERY PRINCE and CARBERY PANTHER. Both bulls are sons of Doudou. Prince was purchased by John Gavin, Borrisokane, Co. Tipperary for €3,000. Born in October 2019, Prince’s dam Carbery Elena is herself a daughter of Sympa. Elena has competed very successfully on the show circuit. Prince has five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal Index, Docility, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. His multi-starred stable mate Panther sold for €2,600. Panther has Kaprico Eravelle and Elite Forever Brill in his back pedigree.
SHANNON POMPIER sold for €2900 to Stephen Reilley, Creevy, Co. Roscommon. Pompier has Gstaad, Armoric and Wilodge Cerberus in his sire stack. With high five star ratings this powerful 20 month old bull was bred by Sarah McElligott.

Females
Matthew Fee from Corrawallen, Co. Leitrim presented the only females on offer at the sale, MULLAGHBOY PRIMROSE and MULLAGHBOY PENNY.
Mullaghboy Primrose commanded a price of €2,150. Born in June 2019, Primrose has Keltic Handsome, Roundhill Saturn, Milbrook Tanko and Navarin in her sire stack.
Mullaghboy Penny is a daughter of Lodge Hamlet and the Sympa homebred dam Mullaghboy Jessica, she sold for €1,800. Both heifers were acquired by Francis Kavanagh, Corrandulla, Co. Galway
