South West YMA 2017

On Friday evening the 7th of July 2017, young members from the South West club area were invited to take part in a team selection for the upcoming Irish YMA team selection and workshop. This took place at the Roundhill herd in Fedamore, Co. Limerick.

The YMA were tasked with stock judging and showing – on hand for the young members were two groups of weanlings for stock judging – four young bulls and four young heifers. Once these were judged – scoring cards were handed to the coordinators. Doreen than gave each participant a calf to show for the showing segment.

Once the scores were totted up everyone present was treated to refreshments and scrumptious cakes (baked by Katie) in the Corridan family home.

The team to represent the South West club is Maeve Curtin, Oisin McNamara and Orla Curtin. We wish them well in the national competition. Many thanks to the YMA coordinators Sean Ryan and Avril Kinahan.

Here in the South West club area we would like to thank Doreen, Tim and Katie for once again hosting this event on their farm. The families Roundhill herd is a household name when it comes to tremendous Irish Limousin cattle. Many champions have been born into this remarkable herd.

The family have a passion for cattle which is infectious. Doreen has been invaluable with her time and advice to the South West club.

The farm was one of the highlights of last year’s International Congress, when in excess of 1500 people came through the gates to view the entire herd. We wish the family and Roundhill Limousin’s continued success.
