Athenry Show & Sale was held on Thursday 11th April at Athenry Mart. A steady trade saw 85% of the bulls put forward finding new homes. Judging the pre-sale show were brother and sister Aidan and Shanon Kinahan, two active members of the YMA. Auctioneer for the sale was Denis Barrett. The Senior Champion Roundhill Marlo 2 commanded the top selling price of €4,300. Marlo is an eye-catching son of Kaprico Eravelle and the Hinz P P daughter Roundhill Kgiroflee 1586 Et(P). Born in September 2017, Marlo was bred by Timothy Corridan, Fedamore, Co. Limerick. Multi-starred Marlo was acquired by Owain Llyr of North Wales.
Lot 4. Third prize winner Ballymulavil Maxwell sold for €4,100. Maxwell was bred by John Connor, Claremorris, Co. Mayo. Born in June 2017, Maxwell is by Queenshead Altea and out of the homebred Milbrook Tanko daughter, Ballymulavil Hazel. With an array of five star ratings Maxwell was purchased by Patrick Egan, Loughrea, Co. Galway.
Lot 56. Also purchased by a UK based purchaser for €3,900 was the Junior Champion Millburn Miller. Bred by Richard O’Beirne, Tuam, Co. Galway. Miller is a 17-month old son of Plumtree Fantastic and Millburn Fifi, a Mas Du Clo daughter. He has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation.
Lot 32. The Wilodge Cerberus son Montclare Mac sold for €3,700. Mac was bred in Ennis, Co. Clare by Michael Montgomery. Placed second in his class in the pre-sale show, Mac was purchased by Joseph Kelly, Kilrush, Co. Clare. With five star ratings in many traits, Mac has Wilodge Cerberus, Castleview Ultan and Jars in his lineage.
Lot 31. Teleri Thomas, Enfield, Co. Meath sold her Cameos bull Keltic Master for €3,500. Fourth prize winning Master has four star ratings in many traits. He was purchased by Jimmy McManus, Daingean, Co. Offaly.
Lot 54. Richard O’Beirne sold two bulls at €3,500. First at this price was Millburn Mayweather. This young bull is a son of Plumtree Fantastic and Millburn Emma Et. Mayweather, a second prize winner, was purchased by Michael Keane, Kinvara, Co. Galway.
Lot 61. Millburn Mourinho, a son of Bavardage and the Sympa daughter Millburn Felicity also reached €3,500. Born in November 2017, Mourinho has five star ratings in most traits. He was purchased by John McDonnell, Curragboy, Co. Roscommon.
Lot 12. The second prize winning Malibu son Meelickaduff Mojo sold for €3,400. Mojo was bred by Michael Hester, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon. He boasts an array of five star ratings and had the easy calving figure of the catalogued bulls at 2.8%. Mojo was purchased by local farmer Eddie Madden.
Lot 17. Galbally Major 1310 a first prize winning son of Ampertaine Commander sold for €3,400. Major was bred in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford by Trevor Masterson. Major’s dam Galbally Imelda has Emerson and Penane Prince in her sire stack. Alan Mulligan, Navan, Co. Meath acquired multi-starred Major.
Lot 21. Selling at €3,400 was Oldtown Monster from the herd of William Hogan, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. Monster is a son of Mullary Intrepid and the Palmares daughter Oldtown Dolly. Monster was placed third in his class in the pre-sale show. He was purchased by James Quirke, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.
Lot 38. Noel Fennessy, Castleconnell, Co. Limerick took home €3,100 for Wood Road Marshall. Born in October 2017, Marshall is a second prize winner. He is steeped in Wood Road genetics. His dam is the Ideal 23 daughter Wood Road Henrieta Et, while his sire Wood Road Harvey Et, has Noels renowned show cow Nadia B in his lineage.
Lot 48. Also at €3,100 was the second prize winner Kilskeagh Mophelia from Patrick Gill, Athenry. Mophelia is a multi-starred son of Queenshead Altea and the Sympa daughter Eyrecourt Flower. Mophelia was purchased by John Barton, Scarrifff, Co. Clare.
Lot 51. The multi-starred On-dit son Maythorn Mighty sold for €3,100. Mighty has five star ratings in many traits. He was bred by Martin Mc Connon, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.
The oldest bull on offer Maghera Martin sold for €3,000. Martin is a second prize winning son of Plumtree Fantastic and the Ampertaine Commander dam Maghera Harrison. He was bred by Patrick Mulconroy, Tulla, Co. Clare. Martin was acquired by a UK based purchaser.
Lot 11. The final bull to breach the €3,000 mark was Kilskeagh Miley 2. Miley was bred by local breeder Patrick Gill. His pedigree includes Doudou, Castleview Darren and Tistou. With many five star ratings, Miley was purchased by Cormac Jennings, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.
