The Balmoral Show is one of the most popular events on the Northern Ireland calendar. The Balmoral show sees farmers from all over Ireland – both north and south – take part. It was a great day for Irish-bred Limousin cattle – and the Limousin breed – as Limousin-sired cattle reigned Overall and Reserve Overall Champion in the Commercial Classes judged by Dafydd Lewis.
It was a day to remember for JCB commercials, winning Overall Commercial Champion with a March 2021-born, crossbred Limousin heifer. This heifer (pictured above) was bred by Cork Limousin breeder, Noel Sweeney. This heifer is sired by Limousin bull, Lorenzo; she was sold in November 2021 at Carrick-on-Shannon Fatstock Show and Sale.
Overall Reserve Champion went to Dufton, Small and Wilkinson with a February 2021-born Limousin heifer. This heifer is no stranger to the show ring; sired by Ampertaine Elgin, she was purchased in November 2021 at the Carrick-on-Shannon Fatstock Show and Sale for a record-breaking price. This heifer was bred by Co. Laois breeders, Jack and Sean Ramsbottom.
In the pedigree Limousin section, Charlotte’s Sapphire won the Junior Heifer Championship. Sapphire is sired by Elite Forever Brill who was bred by Dan Tynan, Ardlea Limousins. Her dam – Roundhill Kmelodie 1595 – was bred by Doreen Corrigan, Roundhill Limousins.
