The Irish Limousin Cattle Society Young Members’ Association (YMA) event was held on Saturday, June 4th, on Tom Bailey’s Farm in Batterstown, Co. Meath. A large crowd of Limousin enthusiasts – both young and old – were in attendance, travelling from every corner of the country to get a glimpse of the action.
With the sun shining, attendees viewed the top-quality Limousin cattle on display and impressive farmyard. The day began with a grooming and clipping demonstration by Dougie McBeath, a well-known showman and stockman from Stirling, Scotland.
Dougie began the event by examining each of the animals before beginning the clipping and grooming exercise. He also highlighted the positive characteristics of the animals and what could be done to improve their appearance.
After the clipping and grooming demonstration was complete, a stock judging competition for all young members took place. Additionally, a farm tour was held which allowed attendees to view the Bailey Limousin Herd, including a number of females that were available for sale online later that evening; the day concluded with some food and refreshments.
A great day was had by all and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the following people: Tom Bailey for hosting; Dougie McBeath, Karl Connell and Mark Philips for the clipping and grooming demo; Elanor Reilly for showing the animals; Philp Crowe and James Wycherely for organising the event; Jim Dockery – the health and safety officer; Tricia Kennedy for the top-quality photos; and all the YMA regional coordinators for attending.
