The South West Limousin Club Herds Competition is now open to entries for club members only. This year, herd will be categorised according to their size – small (3 -10 breeding females); medium (11-24 breeding females); and large (25+ breeding females). Note: A ‘breeding female’ is considered a female who has had at least one calf born before the closing date of entry.
In addition, all cattle eligible for the competition must be shown to the judge. Entry fees will apply – according to herd category – and will be collected by the Society office.
- Small: €50;
- Medium: €80;
- Large: €100.
This year’s judge is Teleri Thomas from the renowned Keltic herd and judging will take place over three days – August 18th, 19th and 20th; the closing date for entry is July 25th, 2022.
Points will be allocated by the judge to each herd as follows:
- Knowledge and interest in own herd and Limousin breed: 30 points;
- Docility: 50 points;
- Consistency of Type: 40 points;
- Health & Condition of Cattle (young stock): 25 points;
- Health & Condition of Cattle (older stock): 25 points;
- Conformity to Breed type: 60 points;
- Total points available: 230 points.
Additional categories judged across all herds are:
- Best young bull born between 1st Jan 2021 and 30th June 2021;
- Best young bull born between 1st July 2021 and 31st December 2021;
- Best bull calf born in 2022;
- Best heifer born between 1st Jan 2021 and 30th June 2021;
- Best young heifer born between 1st July 2021 and 31st December 2021;
- Best heifer calf born in 2022;
- Best in-calf heifer to be in calf and due to have calved by 35 months-of-age;
- Best group of calves;
- Best cow (min of 3 calves with average calving interval less than 400 Days, verified by ICBF website or dates calves were registered);
- Best cow family with a minimum of 3 females and at least 2 having calved once or more. (Pedigree certs to show a link to an individual cow).
