2019 sale season commenced for the Irish Limousin Cattle Society on Friday night the 1st of March in Gort mart. A capacity crowd at the ring-side lead to a 69% clearance rate of the bulls on offer.
Taking command of judging the two classes of bulls in the pre-sale show was Maurice Carroll of the Lake Limousin herd in Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare. Auctioneer for the evening was Denis Barrett. We would like to thank mart manager Bernie and all her staff in Gort mart for all their assistance. Lot 20. Topping the sale was second prize winner Brackhoney Milan, an October 2017 born son of Castleview Gringo Et and the Ardlea Dan daughter – Fermoyle Hope 2. Milan has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter calving interval. Milan was bred by William Scanlon, Westport, Co. Mayo. Paddy Hogan, Kinvara, Co. Galway secured this very eye-catching young bull for €3,050.
Lot 19. An Ampertaine Foreman son, Milan Maldini, sold for €3,000 – the second highest price of the night. Maldini was bred by Donal McKeon, Enniscrone, Co. Sligo. His dam Milan Bonnie has Ronick Hawk and Faignant in her sire stack. Maldini boasts five star ratings in Terminal Index, Replacement index, Docility, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. Gerry Reynolds, a local farmer, purchased 16 month old Maldini.

Lot 4. Thomas Rattigan, Tuam, Co. Galway purchased third prize winner Bunnymore Mike from Michael Reynolds, Carrick On Shannon, Co. Leitrim for €2,800. Mike is a son of the homebred Roundhill Saturn Bunnymore Kenton, his dam Bunnymore Gillian has Gamin and Highlander in her back pedigree. Born in May 2017 – Mike has a predicated calving difficulty of 3.5%.

Lot 11. Red Glera Maverick, a July 2017 born Ampertaine Foreman son sold for €2,550. Maverick has five star ratings in Terminal Index, Replacement index, Docility, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. He was bred by Francis McGourty, Ballinaglera, Co. Leitrim and returns to the home of his birth as he was purchased by a Leitrim based farmer.
Lot 7. Two thousand five hundred euro was top call for Ammaghmore Monarch. Placed second in his class in the show, Monarch is a son of Ampertaine Gigolo and the Nenuphar dam Ammaghmore Candy. Monarch was bred by Sean Garrett, Ballycastle, Co. Mayo. He has a Terminal index of €128 and a Replacement index of €99 – Monarch was purchased by Michael Whelan, Gort, Co. Galway.

Lot 9. The Champion bull – Clydagh Mark sold for €2,500 to Padraig Glynn, Claremorris, Co. Mayo. Mark has Cloughhead Lord, Ronick Hawk and Lino in his sire stack. He has five star ratings in Docility, Carcass weight Carcass conformation and Daughter calving interval. Mark was bred by Frank Philbin, Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

Lot 21. Milan Makalalie, a son of the renowned AI sire ZAG (Castleview Gazelle) sold for €2,500. Makalalie was bred by Donal McKeon, Enniscrone, Co. Sligo. His dam Milan Kimberley has Plumtree Deus and Casimir is her lineage. Local farmer Michael Nestor acquired 15 month old Makalalie.

Lot 22. Also by ZAG was Derra Noah from local breeder Gerry Shaughnessy. Noah at just 13 months old was the youngest bull on offer. He sold for €2,300 to Tom Shannon, Inagh, Co. Clare. Noah has five star ratings in Replacement index, Docility, Carcass conformation and Daughter calving interval.
Lot 17. The Reserve Champion Oldtown Mossy was bred by William Hogan, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. Mossy has Mullary Intrepid, Wilodge Cerberus and Nimbus-Mn in his sire stack. He has five star ratings in many indexes. Desmond Early, Tubber, Co. Clare purchased Mossy for €2,150.

Lot 2. Nephin Mervin, a son of Doudou and the Nenuphar dam Nephin Collette sold for €1,900. Mervin was bred by Michael Mulhearn, Ballina, Co. Mayo. He has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter milk. He was purchased by Loughrea based William Loughrey.

Lot 5. The Edakkya son Coolfern Moffett found a new home at €1,900. Moffett was bred by Thomas O’Leary, Killorglin, Co. Kerry. He has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. Moffett was purchased by Liam McQuinn, Oughterard, Co. Galway.
The next society show and sale is on bank holiday weekend 17th and 18th March in Roscrea mart. This is the first premier show and sale and has a catalogue of 103 bulls. The show is on Sunday evening at 5pm with the sale commencing on Monday morning the 18th of March at 11.30am.
