The Connell brothers’, Carrickmore Schumacher ET, is bound for Trevor Shields’ Glenmarshal Farm in Co. Down, after the Meath-based brothers sold the bull privately for €30,000 last weekend.

The September-2021-born bull is a son of Sympa, and his dam is Baileys Ice Princess – the Overall Champion at Royal Ulster Show 2015, National Limousin Champion 2015 and 2016 and World Limousin Congress Champion in 2016.

Ice Princess is also the dam of the Carrickmore Maximus – Schumacher’s half-brother by Ampertaine Foreman – who sold at the Irish Limousin Cattle Society’s premier sale in Roscrea in October 2018 for €38,000.

Trevor Shields started his Limousin herd in July 2020 and  has now built numbers up to approximately 40 females – purchasing top-quality heifers from across Ireland and the UK.

“We started by buying a couple of heifers from Henry Savage and a few at the Millburn dispersal sale in Elphin,” he told the Irish Limousin Cattle Society. ” We have also purchased heifers at sales in Carlisle and some from the Goldies Herd and Ronick Herd – both in Scotland.”

Commenting on his most recent purchase, Trevor said: “Schumacher is a very correct bull; he has good style and he ticks all the boxes we’re looking for.

“He also has a very good breeding background. We have used Sympa, Schumacher’s sire, already and we have some Sympa-sired calves on the ground. We have also used Carrickmore Maximus – also bred from Baileys Ice Princess,” he added. “He has done well for us; we won the Junior Female Championship with a daughter of his at Balmoral recently.”

The Overall Limousin Reserve Champion title and the Intermediate Male Championship and the Overall Male Championship were awarded to Schumacher at the Limousin Society’s 50th Anniversary Show last weekend.

Schumacher was also tapped out as the FBD National Livestock Show pedigree registered Limousin Male Champion at Tullamore Show in August of this year.

He also secured the Interbreed Continental Calf Champion, Champion, Limousin Champion and Overall Interbreed Champion at Oldcastle Agricultural Show, and Limousin Champion, Pedigree Champion and Overall Supreme Champion titles at Arva Show.
