South West And Cork Limousin Clubs’ Biennial Sale

A sizzling trade for Limousin heifers at the South West and Cork clubs’ sale in Roscrea mart on Saturday the 2nd of September. A catalogue of 40 heifers were presented with prices peaking at €6,000 for the youngest heifer on offer Ryans Timothea ET.

This October 2022 born heifer was presented by Ger Ryan of Ballyhooly, Co. Cork. She is a daughter of Wilodge Cerberus and Vern Blossom, an Imperial daughter. Timothea was part of the Ryan families show team during the summer, acquiring numerous prizes including the Overall Limousin Champion at Barryroe show. Timothea was purchased by a Galway based farmer.

Two heifers changed hands for €4,200, first at this price was Caherlevoy Tinkey from Shane Sheehan, Mount Collins. Tinkey is a daughter of Elite Pedigree Genetics “Whinfellpark Lomu” and the homebred Ampertaine Elgin dam Caherlevoy Precious. Tinkey was also on the show circuit and was placed second to the Junior Female champion at the National Show in Tullamore. Tinkey was purchased by an established county Meath based breeder.

Also at €4,200 was Carbery Thailand from Keith Vickery, Rosscarbery. Thailand is steeped in prize-winning genetics with both her grand-dams enjoying very successful show ring careers. Thailand’s paternal grand-dam is the renowned Baileys Iceprincess (a cow that needs no introduction – amongst her accolades are the 2016 Congress championship, she is dam of National show champion and top priced bull Carrickmore Maximus and Carrickmore Pocket Rocket Et). This 11 month old heifer was purchased by a Tipperary based farmer.

Lot 38: Carbery Thailand

Not to be outdone Thailand’s maternal sister Carbery Saphire sold for €4,100. Saphire is an in calf Doudou Td daughter. She was acquired by a Galway based breeder.

The final heifer to breach the €4,000 mark was Caherlevoy Tipsy from Shane Sheehan. Tipsy is a daughter of Noob and Grangeford Kaitlin.
€3,700 was top call for Gaggin Truely from PJ Hegarty, Bandon, Cork. Truly boasted the highest replacement figure in the catalogue at €189. Truly is a daughter of Tomschoice Lexicon and the Ampertaine Commander cow Gaggin Pretty Et.

Finding a new home at €3,600 was Corcamore Sizzle from Brendan Curtin, Clarina, Limerick. Sizzle is a daughter of Kaprico Eravelle and Corcamore Gaby (a Ramses daughter). Sizzle’s replacement index of €152 places her in the top 5% of females born in 2021.

The only Ampertaine Foreman daughter on offer was Knockcoolkeare Treasure ET presented by Micheal Roche, Mount Collins. At 364 days old Treasure was snapped up by a Kerry based breeder for €3,500. Treasure has Ampertaine Commander and Ramses in her back pedigree.

The in calf Fest Noz daughter Greenacres Sally changed hands for €3,100. Sally was bred by Seamus O’Brien, Killarney. She has Kaprico Eravelle and Netherhall Epic in her sire stack.
Pat Sheahan, Drombanna, Limerick received €3,100 for Drombanny Trudy. Seventeen month old Trudy has Grenache, Damona and Chaumeil in her pedigree, her maternal grand dam Drombanny Julia was a multi class winner at Congress in 2016.

Corcamore Sage, a Plumtree Fantastic daughter sold for €3,000. Sage has Castleview Gazelle and Wilodge Cerberus in her back pedigree.

Sarah McElligott’s heifer Shannon Tammy also sold for €3,000. Tammy is a May 2022 born daughter of Ampertaine Metric.

First time exhibitors James and Eric McSweeney of Ballymacelligott, Co. Kerry accepted €2,900 for their heifer Ballycarthy Tequila. Born in February 2022 Tequila has Grangeford Jojo, Cavelands Jolly and Sympa in her lineage.

After the long journey from Beara, west Cork Vincent O’Sullivan sold his two in calf heifers for €2,700. Inchintaglin Sophie, a daughter of Loyal with Keltic Handsome and Ampertaine Foreman in her back pedigree sold to a Tipperary based breeder. Her stable mate Inchintaglin Sharon (Gerrygullinane Glen X Wilodge Cerberus) was purchased by a Kildare based farmer.

Ballylin Treehouse from Brian Frawley, Croagh, Co. Limerick sold for €2,700. Treehouse is a 14-month old daughter of Tomschoice Lexicon. Her homebred dam Ballylin Patricia has Lodge Hamlet and Ampertaine Commander in her pedigree.

Lot 35: Gaggin Truely

Top call for Shannon Trikie was €2,600. Trikie is a daughter of Gaggin Power Et. She has Kaprico Eravelle and Ultime Ri in her back pedigree.

Corcamore Sadie, a daughter of Mereside Godolophin sold for €2,500.
Corcamore Susie, a daughter of Chaumeil sold for €2,400.
Inchintaglin Saoirse, a daughter of Inchintaglin Priceless sold for €2,200.
Ballylin Tilly, a daughter of Claragh Neymar sold for €2,200.
Shannon Tracey, a daughter of Claragh Neymar sold for €2,200.
Coolfern Sophie, a daughter of Grenache sold for €2,000.
Shannon Tina, a daughter of Powerful Proper sold for €1,900.

Overall, 24 heifers sold for an average price of €3,104 – with five making €4,000 or more and 12 making €3,000 or more.
