
Sale season kicked off on Saturday 22nd of March in Roscrea mart and what a sale it proved to be. A clearance of 94% met with an record breaking average selling price of €5958 (this has exceeded our previous society record sale price average by €219). Cartronfree Unbelievable ET sold for the top price of €26,700. Thirteen bulls made €6,000 or over.
Tasked with judging the pre-sale show was Mr. Keith Redpath of the Redpaths herd based in Kelso, Scotland. Keith is no stranger to the show ring having judged the beef inter-breed champion and the teams of five competition at the Royal Highland Show in 2023. Speaking after the show Keith thanked the society for inviting him to judge, he wished the exhibitors all the best in the sales ring and commented on the successes Irish bred bulls have had on the UK Limousin herdbook.

CARTRONFREE UNBELIEVABLE ET – €26,700
Lot 48. Topping the sale was the outstanding CARTRONFREE UNBELIEVABLE ET from the herd of John and Martina Browne, Granard, Co. Longford. Unbelievable is a November 2023 born son of Pabo Rocknroll (Grahams Nashville X Netherhall Jackpot). His dam Ampertaine Odell (Ampertaine Elgin X Plumtree Fantastic) was purchased at Carlisle for 13000 gns. She is a very consistent breeding cow, at last year’s National show her daughter Cartronfree Umbrella ET stood as Reserve Junior Champion. With huge interest both ringside and online for Unbelievable the hammer fell after sustained bidding at €26,700. The successful purchaser is Dovea Genetics. Senior Champion LISNA UNIQUE – €12,200
Lot 9.Awarded the plaudits of Senior Champion was LISNA UNIQUE from the herd of Dermot Shaughnessy, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. Unique is a son of Ampertaine Elgin and the Ampertaine Gigolo daughter Lisna Meze. Born in August 2023, this stylish, long powerful bull was acquired for €12,200 by a Sligo based herd.

DROMBANNY ULM – €8,600
Lot 38. First prize winner DROMBANNY ULM from the county Limerick based herd of Pat Sheahan commanded a selling price of €8,600. Ulm is a son of Jurancon and the Usse daughter Drombanny Nirvana. Seventeen month old Ulm carries two copies of the F94L gene. He was the pick of a county Monaghan based purchaser.

Reserve Junior Champion TEMPLEQUAIN UNBELIEVABLE – €8,000
Lot 44. Brendan O’Shea presented the Reserve Junior Champion TEMPLEQUAIN UNBELIEVABLE, a Gamin son, his dam Templequain Meredith has Ampertaine Foreman and Wilodge Tonka in her lineage. This powerful, long 16 month old bull is a double carrier of the F94L gene. He was purchased by a Northern Ireland based herd for €8,000.

KNOCKCOOLKEARE UNSTOPABULL ET – €7,800
Lot 27. Micheal Roche, Mountcollins, Co. Limerick presented first prize winner KNOCKCOOLKEARE UNSTOPABULL ET, a September 2023 born son of Ampertaine Foreman and an Ampertaine Commander dam Castleview Gail. Unstopabull enjoyed a successful showing career picking up many accolades on the show circuit in the summer of 2024. Unstopabull is a double carrier of the Q204X gene. He was purchased by a herd in Northern Ireland for €7,800.

KELTIC UTRILLO – €7,100
Lot 13. Second prize winner KELTIC UTRILLO sold for €7,100 to a Carlow based herd. Utrillo is a son of Jaurel and Keltic Nest (Keltic Handsome X Ampertaine Foreman). Nineteen month old Utrillo boasts two copies of the F94L gene. He was bred by Teleri Thomas, Longwood, Co. Meath.

Junior Champion BRACKAN VINNIE – €6,800
Lot 58. Junior Champion BRACKAN VINNIE sold for €6,800 to a customer based in Cavan. Vinnie has Ampertaine Magnum, Gerrygullinane Glen and Plumtree Deus in his sire stack. Fourteen month old Vinnie is a very stylish young bull. He was bred by Padraig Gormley, Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim. Vinnie had a very successful summer show season picking up multiple prizes. He carries two copies of the F94L gene.

OLDTOWN USEFUL – €6,600
Lot 19. Brendan Hogan, Thurles, Co. Tipperary presented the Fourth prize winner OLDTOWN USEFUL. This September 2023 born bull sold for €6,600 to a county Kerry based purchaser. Useful has two copies of the F94L gene. His sire stack includes Ampertaine Majestic, Tomschoice Iceberg and Brooklands F0959.

Lot 55. LISNA VICTOR the second bull on offer from Dermot Shaughnessy sold for €6,600. Victor is a son of Loyal and an Ampertaine Foreman dam Lisna Muckless. Victor was awarded the “Best 2024 Male calf in the North West Herds competition”. After a flurry of bids Victor was purchased by a Clare based bidder.

Lot 57. The 14 month old Tomschoice Lexicon son OVAUN VOLDEMORT changed hands for €6,200. Voldemort’s dam Ovaun Smarties has Hirohito and Attirant in her sire stack. Michael Gunn, Elphin, Co. Roscommon bred Voldemort. He was acquired by a Tipperary based farmer.

CORCAMORE UMPIRE – €6,000
Lot 8. Three bulls sold for €6,000, first at this price was the Plumtree Fantastic son CORCAMORE UMPIRE. This July 2023 born bull is double carrier of the F94L gene. His dam Corcamore Fay is a daughter of Goldies Terence. Bred in Limerick by Brendan Curtin, he was purchased by a Tipperary dairy and suckler farmer.

Lot 45. Heading to county Offaly is BRACKAN UNBEATABULL ET a son of Derrygullinane Kingbull for €6,000. Unbeatabull was a first prizewinner at the National Show. His dam Esker-Hill Karen Et has Sympa and Wilodge Cerberus in her sire stack. This 16 month old bull was bred by Padraig Gormley. Unbeatabull has two copies of the F94L gene.

FAUGHILL ULTAN – €6,000
Lot 51.The third bull to fetch €6,000 was FAUGHILL ULTAN from the Carrick-On-Shannon based herd of Charlie Clancy. Ultan is a December 2023 born son of Tomschoice Lexicon. His dam Faughill Rose is a daughter of Kaprico Eravelle. Ultan has two copies of the F94L. He was acquired by a purchaser based in Cavan.

MUFF URBAN COWBOY ET – €5,800
Lot 42. Three bulls sold for €5,800. MUFF URBAN COWBOY ET was first to sell at this price. Urban Cowboy has Omer-Mn, Wilodge Vantastic and Ideal 23 in his sire stack. This stylish well-muscled bull has one copy of the F94L gene and one copy of the Q204X gene. He was bred in Kingscourt, Cavan by Patrick Carolan and now heads to county Kilkenny.
Lot 59. The fourth prize winner BALLYLINE VINCENT was acquired by a Tipperary based farmer for €5,800. Vincent is a son of Elderberry Galahad and the Keltic Handsome daughter Ballyline P 706. He was bred by Bertie Mannion, Curraghboy, Co. Roscommon.

JOLLIE FARMS VINNIE – €5,800
Lot 60. Second prize winner JOLLIE FARMS VINNIE was the final bull to fetch €5,800. Vinnie has Ewdenvale Ivor, Plumtree Fantastic and Gleannari Everest in his lineage. Born in January 2024, he has a copy of the F94L gene and the Q204X gene. Vinnie was bred by Brendan O’Grady, Knockcroghery, Co. Roscommon. He now heads to a new home in Limerick.
Lot 12 FOYLE VIEW UNBELIEVABLE, the only Westpit Omaha son on offer claimed first prize in his class. August 2023 born Unbelievable’s dam has Sylvandene Defoe and Tertio B in her sire stack. This young bull was bred by Charles Duddy from Lifford, Co. Donegal. Unbelievable heads to a new home in county Mayo for €5,700.
Lot 40. Second prize winner CURRANE UGO also sold for €5,700. Ugo has Jurancon, Ampertaine Foreman and Ronick Hawk in his pedigree. Born in October 2023, Ugo was bred by Michael McKeown, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Ugo carries two copies of the F94L gene. He was acquired by a Wexford based purchaser.
Lot 41. Teleri Thomas returned to the ring with KELTIC UPPERCRUST a 17-month old son of Tomschoice Lexicon. Uppercrust’s dam Keltic Incaroyal is a daughter of Ampertaine Foreman. Uppercrust carries one copy of the F94L gene and one copy of the Q204X gene. He was purchased by a Northern Ireland based customer.

OVAUN UKRAINE – €5,600
Lot 29. Heading to Carlow is the second prize winner OVAUN UKRAINE for €5,600. Ukraine was bred in Roscommon by Michael Gunn. Ukraine has Hirohito, Ronick Hawk and Highlander in his sire stack.
Lot 34.Third prize winner TEMPLEQUAIN UNITED also sold for €5,600. United was bred by Brendan O’Shea. United is a son of Ampertaine Jackpot and the homebred Derrygullinane Kingbull dam Templequain Skye. United has a copy of the F94L gene and the NT821 gene. He heads to a new home in Kildare.

FAUGHILL UNBELIEVABLE – €5,600
Lot 50. FAUGHILL UNBELIEVABLE, a fourth prize winning Mereside Godolphin son changed hands for €5,600. Unbelievable’s dam Faughill Joy is a daughter of Wilodge Cerberus. Fifteen month old Unbelievable was bred by Charlie Clancy. He was purchased by a county Meath based customer.

Reserve Senior Champion TOWNLEYHALL URBAN – €5,500
Lot 3. Tapped out as Reserve Senior Champion was TOWNLEYHALL URBAN from the herd of Derek Russell, Drogheda, Co. Louth. Urban is a son of Powerful Proper and Townleyhall Royalgrazia. He was purchased by a Kerry farmer for €5,500.
Lot 14. Also selling for €5,500 was MARLHILL UNDERDOG from the herd of James Parkinson, Cashel, Co. Tipperary. Underdog is a son of Ewdenvale Ivor. He has two copies of the F94L gene. He heads to new abode in Tipperary.
Lot 30. The fourth prize winning Plumtree Fantastic son RUAN ULYSSES sold for €5,500. Ulysses was bred by John Lyons, Ruan, Co. Clare and returns to a new home in Clare. He carries two copies of the F94L gene.
Lot 2. The first bull into the sales ring was GLENFORD UNDERDOG from the Wicklow based herd of Kelly Stephenson. Underdog has Carrickmore Maximus ET, Wilodge Tonka and Tartuffe in his lineage. Twenty-two month old Underdog was acquired by a Galway based herd for €5,300.

CORCAMORE ULYSSES – €5,100
Lot 17. Third prize winner CORCAMORE ULYSSES sold for €5,100. Ulysses is a son of Keltic Rembrandt and the Ionesco dam Corcamore Pippin. He heads to new home in Clare.

BURRENVIEW FARM VEGAS- €5,100
Lot 63. The youngest bull on offer BURRENVIEW FARM VEGAS realised a price of €5,100. Vegas is a 14-month old son of Plumtree Fantastic. He was bred in Crusheen, Clare by Carina Roseingrave. He was acquired by a farmer from Wicklow.

PHILLIPS ULTIMATUM ET – €5,000
Lot 53 and Lot 54. Micheal Phillips, Gurteen, Sligo presented two full brothers PHILLIPS ULTIMATE ET and PHILLIPS ULTIMATUM ET – these December 2023 born bulls both claimed Third prize rosettes in their respective show classes and both realised €5,000 each. They are sons of Ampertaine Foreman and Fairywater Gabriella, Overall Reserve Champion at Red Ladies Derby in 2013. Ultimate heads to Monaghan while Ultimatum has a new home in Northern Ireland.
