The Southwest club once again teamed up with Castleisland mart to host the annual October commercial breeding heifer show and sale on Wednesday the 3oth of October. There was a great display of quality heifers leading to a fantastic clearance and many making in excess of €3 per kg.

Local pedigree breeder Sean O’Sullivan of the Castleview herd was tasked with judging the heifers – his pick as First prize winner was a black LM heifer born January 2023, she weighed 548kg and sold for €1,710 (€3.12/kg).

The second prize winner was a red heifer born in May 2022 – this lady weighed 528kg and sold for €1,600 (€3.03).

In the general sale a cow weighing 748kg sold for €2,280 or €3.05 / kg.
