The ringside was packed at Gort Mart on Thursday evening, March 5th, for a highly anticipated Weanling Show and Sale. It was a night of fast-paced bidding and impressive returns, with Limousin-cross genetics once again proving their worth as a top choice for both sellers and buyers.

While the night saw a great trade across all breeds, the Limousin entries stood out for their incredible consistency. The demand for the breed was evident, with the top-performing Limousin-cross heifer hitting a massive €10.93/kg, a testament to the breed’s ability to deliver the shape and style the market demands.

Judging the heifer classes were Adrian Walsh and Billy Dunne, with Fergal Ward and Alan Kelly taking charge of the bull classes.

LMX Weanling Bulls

1st Place: Stephen Connaughton 525kg selling for €2,900 (€5.52/kg).

2nd Place: Michael Griffin 465kg selling for €2,880 (€6.19/kg).

LMX Weanling Heifers

1st Place: Keith O’Reilly 485kg selling for €5,300 (€10.93/kg).

2nd Place: Paul Conroy 370kg €3,250 (€8.78/kg).

The strong prices achieved by these LMX weanlings underlines why so many suckler farmers continue to rely on Limousin genetics to boost their bottom line. Whether it’s for weight-for-age or show cattle, the Limousin bull is the engine behind these results.
