The South West Club embarked on its selection for the National YMA on Wednesday evening the 12th August, at the home of Roundhill Limousins, Fedamore, Co. Limerick. Doreen and Tim Corridan had a significant number of livestock on hand for the YMA to judge and walk. Master Judge for the evening was Tom Hickey of the Brookland Limousin herd based in Kilcommon, Co. Tipperary. Tom is a former champion at many YMA competitions, including the Anglo Irish, and his input to the assembled YMA was invaluable.

Proceedings commenced with a demonstration by Tom, the group were then split – half judging the two groups of cattle, four heifers and four bulls, while the others took part in the showing aspect. After a period of 10 minutes the groups swapped tasks. Once score cards were handed in the interview section commenced, an immense task for any youngster as they had to give their reasons to a panel of three Master Judge Tom, Chairman Sean Ryan and Secretary Micheal Roche.

The team selected were Orla and Maeve Curtin, Aidan and Shanon Kinahan.

The SW Club wish our team the best of luck in the team and individual competitions of the Anglo Irish Finals which will be taking place later this year.

We are extremely grateful to Tim & Doreen Corridan and George for once again making both their facilities and cattle available to us. Thanks also to all who participated and those who helped out at this event. A special mention to Tom for his time and encouragement.
