Limousin heifers were in great demand at the Roundhill & Castleview 10^th Genetic Advantage sale. The sale was held in Roscrea mart on Saturday 14^th of September. Taking command of the auctioneer’s rostrum was George Candler. The extensive catalogue had 50 heifers on offer – ranging from yearlings up to mature in calf heifers. Overall prices ranged from €2,000 to €9,800.

Roundhill Limousin herd is based in Fedamore, Limerick and is the property of Tim and Doreen Corridan. The herd consists of 200 pedigree Limousin cattle. Tim and Doreen’s goal is the produce profitable and sustainable Limousin cattle which are easy care and fertile and that consistently produce U grade, docile cattle with high growth rates. The Roundhill herd is Ireland’s largest polled Limousin herd.

Sean O’Sullivan, a veterinary surgeon from Castleisland in Kerry runs the Castleview herd. Sean started breeding pedigree Limousin cattle in 1988. Some of the most widely known bulls standing in Irish AI were bred by Sean. Standing in NCBC is ZAG (Castleview Gazelle) and more recently Castleview Reece. CWO, Castleview Gringo was widely used and very successful for many years especially in the weanling and fat stock rings. Sean strives to produce easy care docile cattle with a balance of maternal and terminal traits.

Topping the sale at €9,800 was Lot 3 – Roundhill S Unanime 2145 ET P, a daughter of Lorenzo Pp and Roundhill I Unamine 1440.  This heifer is just gone three years old. She is due to calve down in October to the Homozygous polled bull Tigris. Her grandam Unanime was part of the flushing program at Roundhill, she left a lasting legacy with her offspring producing many show champions. There was tremendous interest in S Unanime 2145 – after a flurry of bids, she was purchased by a county Laois based herd.

A daughter of Unanime and Bavardage Lot 19 Roundhill T Unanime 2244 Et sold for €6,400. This heifer came to the ring with five star ratings in Terminal index, Age at Finish, Carcass weight and Daughter milk. Born in October 2022 she oozes class. She was acquired by a Northern Ireland based herd.

Lot 11 Her full sister Roundhill T Unanime 2234 ET sold for €5,000 to a Clare based pedigree herd. This lady was born in October 2022. She boasts five star ratings in almost all traits including Replacement index and Terminal index.

Eighteen month old Lot 38 Roundhill U Romance 2303 P commanded a selling price of €6,000 from a Kerry based farmer. U Romance 2303 P has Tweeddale Lennox, Jk Miro Pp and Idalgo Pp in her sire stack.

Lot 20. Also finding a new home in county Kerry was Roundhill U Leny 2291 at a price of €4,800. U Leny 2291 is a daughter of Tomschoice Lexicon and Roundhill K Leny 1654 (Nelson X Ferry). She boasts an array of five star ratings.

Lot 30. Two heifers realised €4,400. First at this price was Roundhill T Unanime 2243 ET from the Unanime family, her sire is Doudou Td. T Unanime 2243 has a Replacement index of €100 and a Terminal index of €128. She was acquired by a county Clare based farmer.

Lot 47. At the same price and heading to the same new home was Roundhill U Leny 2300 PP a daughter of the herds stock sire Jk Miro Pp and Roundhill P Leny 1991 P. This March 2023 born heifer has five star ratings in many traits including Replacement, Terminal and daughter calving interval.

Lot 8. January 2023 born Roundhill U Leny 2287 PP sold for €4,200. U Leny 2287 has Tigris Homo Poled Pp, Jk Miro Pp and Bavardage in her lineage. She heads to a new home in west Cork.

Lot 45. Taking top spot in the consignment of heifers from Sean O’Sullivan’s Castleview herd was Castleview Una. Born in July 2023 Una is a daughter of the highly regarded Wilodge Tonka. Her dam Castleview Rena is a daughter of Hirohito. An established herd in county Offaly purchased this striking lady for €4,200.

Lot 15. April 2024 born Roundhill U Nora 2314 P commanded a selling price of €4,100. U Nora 2314 has a Replacement index of €110 and a Terminal index of €124. Her sires stack includes Jk Miro Pp, Lorenzo Pp and Vermeil. She is heading to a new home in Galway.

Lot 2. The in calf Bel Orient daughter Castleview Sasha 2 commanded a price of €4,000. Sasha 2 is due to calf in October to Jaurel. Born in September 2021, this heifer has five star ratings in Terminal index, Dairy Beef index, Docility, Carcass weight and Daughter milk. She was acquired by a Clare based breeder.

Lot 44. The full sister to Progressive Genetic’s Castleview Reece (LM8619) sold for €4,000, this heifer is Castleview Unita Et, she has Cameos, Ronick Hawk and Fieldson Alfy in her sire stack. Fifteen month old Unita heads to Galway.

Lot 35. Heading to a new home in Northern Ireland is Roundhill S Leny 2184 PP, an in calf daughter of Jk Miro Pp. S Leny 2184 is due to calf down in March 2025 to Greensons Testament PP. She boasts a Replacement index of €147 and a Terminal index of €132. She sold for €3,900.

Lot 13. €3,800 was the winning bid for Castleview Senorita. Born in December 2021 Senorita is a daughter of Bel Orient and Castleview Gracious (Ronick Hawk X Ferry). She is due to calve down in early December to Tomschoice Lexicon. Senorita heads to county Clare.

Lot 34. Roundhill S Leny 2177 PP a daughter of Jk Miro Pp was acquired by a county Laois purchaser for €3,600. S Leny 2177 is due to calf down in December to Orrex PP. She has five star ratings in Replacement index, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter calving interval.

Lot 21. Selling for €3,500 was Castleview Teresa a daughter of Bel Orient and Castleview Highlife (Wilodge Tonka X Malibu). This June 2022 born heifer is due to calve down in early January to Tomschoice Lexicon. She boasts five star ratings in almost every trait. She was purchased by a county Kerry based herd.

Lot 25. The Cameos daughter Castleview Tiana also sold for €3,500 to a Cork based purchaser. Tiana was served to Tomschoice Lexicon in July. Her dam Castleview Lotty has Ronick Hawk and On-Dit in her sire stack.

Lot 7. County Laois is the destination for Roundhill T Ondine 2274 PP a daughter of O Mallet Pp and Roundhill P Ondine 2007 P. This stylish heifer boasts a Replacement index of €123 and five star ratings in Gestation length, Docility, Carcass conformation and Daughter calving interval. She reached a price of €3,400.

Lot 16. March 2023 born Roundhill U Leny 2307 P sold to a Galway based purchaser for €3,100. U Leny 2307 has Hellios Hp, Hinz Pp and Vison in her pedigree.

Lot 42. Roundhill T Romance 2189 PP a Viking daughter sold for €3,000 to a Laois based farmer. T Romance 2189 is due to calve in early 2025 to Greensons Testament PP.

Lot 51. Second calver Roundhill S Giroflee 2157 PP sold for €3,000 to a Limerick based purchaser. S Giroflee 2157 has Jk Miro Pp, Ivoire Pp and Lino in her lineage. She is due to have her second calf in November 2024, her first calf has been retained at Roundhill.
