It was a buyers’ market at the October Premier Sale reflecting the current state of play in the livestock industry. The sale was held on Bank holiday Monday 28th October, with the show of males on Sunday evening the 27th of October and the show of females on Monday morning. The show was judged by Sarah Priestley of the noted Brontemoor herd based in Cumbria.

This year’s Champion of Champions – Rhyne Noah claimed both the top price of the day at €8,000 and the Senior champion title. Noah is a son of Wilodge Joskins and the Festin dam Clonadrm Urselle Et. This April 2018 born bull boasts five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. Noah was bred by Mark Hagan, Killoe, Co. Longford and after a flurry of bids he returns to his birth county to the farm of Cyril Naughton, Edgerstown.
The Reserve Senior Champion Liscarn Neptune claimed the second highest price of the day when he sold for €6,000. Neptune’s pedigree includes Goldies Jackpot, Dinmore Goldcrest and Sympa. Neptune came to the ring with five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. Roscrea based David Hewson purchased Neptune from his breeder Bailieboro, Co. Cavan based Philip Dunne.
Ciaran Smith, Redhills, Co. Cavan had a very successful day with his two bulls – Cnoc Rua North and Cnoc Rua Newman when they sold for a combined total of €10,700. First in was third prize winner North who sold for €5,700 to Trevor McVitty, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh. Norths pedigree stack includes Ampertaine Gigolo, Wilodge Cerberus and Ronick Iceman. North has an array of five star ratings in: Terminal index, Replacement index, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter milk.
The Purcell Brothers chose 13 month old first prize winner Currane Nolen for their herd in Newrath, Co. Kilkenny. Nolen is a son of Plumtree Fantastic and the homebred Emerson daughter Currane Jane. Multi-starred Nolen was bred in Castlebar, Co. Mayo by Michael McKeown. Nolen commanded a price of €5,700.
Ballinahinch Noah was the pick of George McCague for his Bridgeview herd based in Newry, Co. Down. Noah was the sole Grangeford Jojo son on offer, his dam Ballinahinch Hillary has Ultime and Sympa in her sire stack. Claiming the blue ribbon in his class – multi-starred Noah was bred by Seamus Cullen, Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow. Noah sold for €5,600.
The Coolrain herd of Gearoid and Padraig Kennedy acquired Ernevalley Nixon for their county Laois based herd. First prize winning Nixon is 14 months old. Nixon has Wilodge Cerberus, Mas Du Clo, Wilodge Vantastic and Sympa in his pedigree. Nixon attained a selling price of €5,400 for his breeder Eddie Lynch, Loughduff, Co. Cavan.
March 2018 born Cnoc Rua Newman sold for €5,000. Fourth prize winner Newman was the second bull on offer from Ciaran Smith. Newman was purchased by Michael Henderson, Gothbawn, Co. Kilkenny. Newman’s pedigree includes Plumtree Fantastic, Roundhill Saturn and Espoir.
Cornamona Noble ET was awarded the Junior Champion title which adds to an impressive collections of titles from the summer show circuit including Junior and Overall Male Champion at Tullamore and Connaught interbreed Bull Champion. Noble was bred by Paul Summerville, Dooras, Co. Galway. He is a son of Ampertaine Gigolo and Titchburn Grace, a Cloughhead Umprie daughter. Multi-starred Nobel was acquired by John Martyn, Oughterard, Co. Galway from his exhibitor Richard O’Beirne, Tuam for €5,000.
The Goldies Jackpot son Baileys Mitchell sold for €4,800. First prize winning Mitchell was bred by Thomas Bailey, Batterstown, Co. Meath. Mitchell’s dam Woodhouse Abbie has Sympa and Greensons Gigolo in her sire stack. Alan Burke from Rathgar, Dublin purchased November 2017 born Mitchell.
The Reserve Junior Champion 13 month old Milbrook Noticabull ET was secured by a Cavan based bidder for €4,350. Noticabull is a son of Ampertaine Elgin and the Tatoumh dam Milbrook Funtasia Et. He was bred by William Smith, Oldcastle, Co. Meath. Noticabull had amassed a number of prizes during the summer show season.
First prize winner Ballinahinch Nero 2 was purchased for €4,100 by a Belfast based customer. Nero 2 was bred in Co. Wicklow by Seamus Cullen. Born in March 2018, Nero is a son of Tomriland Kit (Ampertaine Foreman X Ideal 23) and Ballinahinch Frenchy (Cloughhead Umpire X Strauss). Nero has five star ratings in Terminal index, Replacement index, Docility, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter milk.
Townleyhall Nathan, a Tomschoice Ironstone son sold for €4,000. Nathan was bred by Derek Russell, Drogheda, Co. Louth. First prize winner Nathan has five star ratings in Terminal index, Replacement index, Carcass weight, Daughter calving interval and Carcass conformation. He was purchased by Helen Farnan, Kildalrey, Co. Meath.
Second prize winner Clonlara Norman sold for €4,000. Norman was bred by Colin Hogg, Clonlara, Co. Clare. Norman is steeped in French genetics including Bavardage, Neuf and Ramses. Born in May 2018 he was secured by Anthony Quinn, Castledermot, Co. Kildare.
Pat McGuinness, Bettystown, Co. Meath sold Bradden Bridge Nirvana Et for €4,000. Born in May 2018, Nirvana was first in his class in the pre-sale show. Nirvana is the first bull in Ireland from the Foxhillfarm Mary / Bankdale Alice Family. Foxhillfarm Mary is full sister to multi winning Gracie. Nirvana was acquired by Andrew Ewing, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
The Ronick Hawk son Ernevalley Nigel Et sold for €3,700. Nigel’s dam is the Wilodge Vantastic daughter Dinmore Gena. Nigel was acquired by Ian Nimmo of the Maraiscote herd based in Bogside Farm, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Third prize winning Nigel was bred by Eddie Lynch, Loughduff, Co. Cavan.
Second prize winner Templequain Noble found a new home at €3,700. Noble was bred by Thomas O’Shea, Rathdowney, Co. Laois. Noble has Loyal, Elite Forever Brill and Scorboro Regius in his sire stack. Noble was purchased by an overseas customer.
The second prize winning Ewdenvale Ivor son Drummin Nate sold for €3,600. Nate was bred by John Mcinerney, Newmarket On Fergus, Co. Clare. Eighteen month old Nate was purchased by Ken Fleming, Carrick On Suir.
Michael O’Grady, Bodyke, Co. Clare purchased the Keltic Handsome son Cordillo Nova for €3,500. Nova was bred in Feenagh, Co. Limerick by William Geary. Nova’s dam Wood Road Kim has Sympa and Ampertaine Elgin in her lineage.

Females
Taking the plaudits as Female Champion and the youngest heifer in the sale was Drummin Natasha from John McInerney, Newmarket On Fergus, Co. Clare. Natasha is a very eye-catching yearling daughter of Goldies Jackpot, her dam Drummin Kylie has Glorieux and Wilodge Vantastic in her pedigree. Natasha had great success during the summer show season winning Limousin and Interbreed Champion at three shows – namely Newmarket on Fergus, Castlerea and Trim. Natasha caught the eye of Hywel & Susan Watkins, Llanfyllin, Powys, Wales for their Cammen pedigree herd. Natasha sold for €5,700.
Joseph McGarry, Newtownforbes, Co. Longford sold Mount Scott Nelly 2 a fourth prize winner for €4,500. Nelly and her dam Hill Top Fiona were purchased in 2018 at the Mount Scott dispersal sale. Sired by Kilskeagh Jisop, a Bavardage son. Nelly was acquired by the Bridgeview herd of George McCague.
Noel Fennessy’s Wood Road Nora sold for €4,000. Much admired in the show ring, Nora has Gerrygullinane Glen, Ideal 23 and Wilodge Vantastic in her lineage. This 17 month old heifer claimed third prize in her class. She was acquired by Owain Llyr.
Also heading to the Bridgeview herd is the Reserve Female Champion Hurricane Nikita. Born in September 2018, Nikita was bred by Darragh O’Meara, Ardnacrusha, Co. Clare. Nikita is a daughter of Lodge Hamlet and the homebred Wilodge Cerberus dam Hurricane Karley. Nikita enjoyed a victorious summer show season, picking up many red rosettes including in the Clare Calf finals. Nikita’s selling price was €4,000.
Gerry Devitt, Mallow, Co. Cork purchased second prize winning Knockcoolkeare New Nadia B from Michael Roche, Mount Collins, Co. Limerick. New Nadia B was a first prize winner at the National show, held in August in Tullamore. Her sire stack includes Ampertaine Commander, Wilodge Vantastic and Mas Du Clo. Her dam Wood Road Ingrid Et is a consistent producer of prize winners. New Nadia’s selling price was €3,000.
