The May Premier show and sale took place in Roscrea Mart on Saturday the 3rd of May 2025. Tasked with judging the classes was Mr. Sam Coleman of Glarryford, Ballymena, Northern Ireland. Sam is no stranger to judging having previously judged the prestigious Carlisle show and sale.

Bull highlights:

Top-priced bull: €11,000.

Bull clearance rate: 92%.

Average bull price: €5,916 – A record average for a Roscrea Premier sale.

Four bulls sold for €7,400 or over.

Ten bulls sold for €6,000 or over.

Lot 11. A very aptly named Keltic Rembrandt son RUTLAND UNFORGETTABLE sold for the day’s top price of €11,000. Unforgettable is a super, stylish 17 month old young bull – he oozed class. His dam Rutland Jess has Queenshead Altea and Ampertaine Commander in her lineage – she is a consistent producer with one of her sons Rutland Reuben standing in AI (Progressive Genetics LM8286). He was one of three bulls on offer from Noel Ruttledge’s Ballina, Mayo based herd. Unforgettable has two copies of the F94L gene. He was awarded the blue ribbon in his class. When he came to the ring auctioneer George was inundated with bids both from the floor and online. He will now head to a new home in the banner.

Reserve Champion Lot 18 Liss Victor €8600

Lot 18. Chosen as Reserve Champion was LISS VICTOR from the Lifford, Co. Donegal based herd of Martin Doherty. Victor is a son of Kaprico Eravelle and the Ronick Hawk daughter Liss Nina Et. January 2024 born Victor was acquired for €8,600 by a Wicklow based purchaser.

Lot 23 Brickhill Viceroy €7500

Lot 23. BRICKHILL VICEROY, a son of Ampertaine Metric claimed the third highest price of €7,500. He was bred in Cratloe, Co. Clare by Michael McInerney. His dam Brickhill Seoda is a daughter of Tomschoice Lexicon and the outstanding Brickhill Jade Et. Viceroy is in the top 1% for milk in the breed, he also carries two copies of the F94L gene. He was purchased by a Galway farmer.

Lot 3 Carrefour Umpire €7400

Lot 3. Heading to a new home in Co. Down is the second prize winner CARREFOUR UMPIRE for a selling price of €7,400. Umpire is a maternal brother to Carrefour Turbo (premier sale champion in October 2023). Born August 2023, he is a son of Ampertaine Commander and the Wilodge Cerberus dam Carrefour Madonna. Umpire is a double F94L gene carrier. He was bred in Dunkerrin, Co. Offaly by John Kenny.

Champion Lot 26 Ballyline Van €6700

Lot 26. Champion bull was the stylish Plumtree Fantastic son BALLYLINE VAN from the Co. Roscommon based herd of Bertie Mannion. Ballyline Rula his dam is a daughter of Mereside Godolphin. Van turned 15 months old on sale day and sold to a new home in Co. Galway for €6,700.

Lot 14. Kevin Graham of the Liverpool herd based in Boyle, Co. Roscommon received €6,500 for his third prize winner LIVERPOOL ULTIMATE. Sixteen month old Ultimate is a son of Hector Gd and the exceptional Kaprico Eravelle daughter Liverpool Nadia (her previous sons have been crowned Junior Champion and Reserve Senior Champion at previous Premier sales – Salah selling for €10,000 and Roscoe selling for €6,000). Ultimate has a copy of the F94L gene and a copy of the NT821 gene. He was the pick of a Roscommon based farmer.

Lot 24 Portauns Venise €6200

Lot 24. Three bulls sold for €6,200. First at this price was the third prize winner PORTAUNS VENISE from the Kilmallock, Co. Limerick herd of Laurence Lynch. Venise is a son of Ampertaine Commander and the Bavardage daughter Portauns Pauline. Fifteen month old Venise found a new home in Co. Laois.

Lot 33. From the same herd as the €11,000 sale topper was RUTLAND VJ. This 14 month old bull has Ampertaine Metric, Lodge Hamlet and Queenshead Altea in his sire stack. VJ boasts an outstanding milk figure of 5.5kg. Noel Ruttledge accepted a closing bid of €6,200 from a Galway based purchaser for VJ.

Lot 35 Bremore Vincenzo €6200

Lot 35. The youngest bull presented was BREMORE VINCENZO, a first prize winner. Vincenzo is a son of Telfers Munster and the Loyal daughter Bremore Revelation. He was bred in Loughshinny, Co. Dublin by Paul and Silvia Flynn. Vincenzo has two copies of the F94L gene. He was purchased by a Galway based customer for €6,200.

Lot 9 Ballylin Unit €6000

Lot 9. Heading to Newry is BALLYLIN UNIT from the Croagh, Co. Limerick based herd of Brian Frawley. Unit has Netsurfer, Castleview Gringo Et and Rocky in his sire stack. He was a prize winner in the 2024 South West Herds Competition where he was awarded the title of Best Intermediate bull. Unit carries one copy of the F94L gene and one copy of the NT821 gene. Unit realised a selling price of €6,000.

Lot 27. Finding a new home in Kilkenny is Lifford, Co. Donegal bred INISEOGHAIN VIKING. Bred by Bernard Lynch, Viking is a son of Ewdenvale Ivor and the Lodge Hamlet daughter Iniseoghain Rita Et. The hammer fell at €5,800 for Viking.

Lot 32 Meenross Victor €5800

Lot 32. At the same price of €5,800 was MEENROSS VICTOR from James O’Grady, Scariff, Co. Clare. Victor has a copy of the F94L gene and a copy of the Q204X gene. He is a son of Mereside Godolphin and Meenross Prospect (a Lodge Hamlet daughter). The winning bid for Victor came from a Sligo based bidder.

Lot 22 Brookland Van Basten €5700

Lot 22. Selling to a new home in Laois was the striking second prize winner BROOKLAND VAN BASTEN. Bred in Thurles, Co. Tipperary by John and Tom Hickey, Van Basten is a son of Brookland Mandy and Claddagh Mccabe (Et) (himself a star at the National show and now a noted producer of outstanding commercial cattle). Van Basten has a copy of the F94L and the Q204X gene. He sold for €5,700.

Lot 6. Selling to a herd in Westmeath was MILAN UNIQUE from the Sligo based herd of Donal McKeon. Unique was placed third in his presale class. He has Ampertaine Gigolo, Wilodge Tonka and Vagabond in his sire stack. He is a carrier of two copies of the F94L gene. His selling price was €5,600.

Lot 30. The fourth prize winner BRICKHILL VINCE found a new home for €5,500 on a farm in Kilkenny. Vince is a son of Tomschoice Lexicon and the Plumtree Fantastic daughter Brickhill Lena. Born in February 2024, he is the second bull from the same lineage to sell in Roscrea. His brother Brickhill Ullrich sold for €5,700 at this venue in 2024. Vince is a double carrier of the F94L gene.

Lot 4. The Powerful Proper son CORLEA UPDATE sold for €5,400. Update was bred in Kenagh, Co. Longford by Thomas Connor. He was placed fourth in his class in the presale show. Update is a double F94L gene carrier. He was purchased by an Offaly based farmer.

Lot 10. At the same selling price of €5,400 was LIVERPOOL ULTAN from the Boyle, Co. Roscommon herd of Kevin Graham. Fourth prize winner Ultan has Ampertaine Magnum, Mereside Godolphin and Ampertaine Commander in his sire stack. He has a copy of the F94L gene and a copy of the Q204X gene. Ultan will return to a new home in Roscommon.

Lot 28. MAGHERA VICTORY, a son of Claddagh Mccabe (ET) commanded a price of €5,300 for his breeder Patrick Mulconroy, Tulla, Co. Clare. Placed third in his class, Victory has a copy of both the F94L gene and the Q204X gene. Fourteen month old Victory was purchased by a Tipperary based farmer.

Lot 25. Heading to Clare is BALLYLINE VALENTINO a fourth prize winner for a selling price of €5,200. Valentino has Plumtree Fantastic, Keltic Handsome and Gleannari Everest in his lineage. He was bred in Roscommon by Bertie Mannion. Valentino is a double F94L gene carrier.

Lot 8. The Ronick Hawk son FINBOY URONICK sold for €4,500. Uronick was bred in Birr, Co. Offaly by Tom Harney. His dam Finboy Icepop has Wilodge Cerberus and Nenuphar in her sire stack. Uronick heads to a new home in Roscommon.

Lot 13. MOSS VIEW UMAR also realised €4,500. Umar is a son of Tomschoice Lexicon. Born in November 2023, Umar has a copy of the F94L gene and a copy of the Q204X. He was bred in Kenagh, Co. Longford by Eamonn Orohoe Jnr. He now heads to a farm in Meath.

Lot 5. RUTLAND UMPIRE a September 2023 born son of Claddagh Mccabe (Et) sold for €4,400. Umpire was bred by Noel Ruttledge, Co. Mayo. He has a copy of the F94L gene and a copy of the Q204X gene. His dam Rutland Iona is a daughter of Queenshead Altea. Umpire was purchased by a farmer from Galway.

Lot 16. Changing hands for €4,400 was BALLYLIN VAN from the herd of Brian Frawley, Croagh, Co. Limerick. Van has Aughalion Prince Et, Mereside Godolphin and Ampertaine Commander in his lineage. Fifteen month old Van was purchased by a Tipperary based customer.

Lot 17. Also heading to Tipperary is BROOKLAND VIALLI, from John and Tom Hickey. Vialli has Claddagh Mccabe (Et), Mas Du Clo and Neuf in his pedigree. He has a copy of both the F94L and Q204X genes.

Lot 34. The second prize winner CASTLEBROCK VICTORIAN sold for €4,000 to an Offaly based purchaser. Victorian is a son of Glenrock Redemption and the Wilodge Vantastic dam Scotchtown Esther. He carries two copies of the F94L gene. He was bred by Gerard Davis, Ballinalee, Longford.

Champion Female Lot 28 Bremore Unique €4500

Lot 38. The Champion heifer BREMORE UNIQUE sold for €4,500. Unique is an 18-month old daughter of Aultside Hulk and the Labadi Ben dam Bremore Natasha 2. Unique was bred by Paul and Silvia Flynn, Co. Dublin. This smart, stylish heifer is a double F94L gene carrier, she heads to a new home in Wicklow.

Reserve Champion Female Lot 41 Meenross Ulla – Unsold

Lot 41. The Reserve Champion Female was Meenross Ulla from James O’Grady, Scariff, Co. Clare. Ulla is a daughter of Plumtree Fantastic and Meenross Penelope (an Ampertaine Commander daughter). Ulla has two copies of the Q204X gene. She left the ring unsold.
