Roscommon Mart hosted the final Society spring sale on Saturday 25th May. The sale met with an 81% clearance for the bulls on offer, with an average selling price of €3,820. Tasked with judging was Mr. Micheal Roche of Mountcollins, Co. Limerick. Micheal is a pedigree breeder of note with his Knockcoolkeare herd regularly competing on the show circuit.
On the auctioneer’s rostrum was Roscommon native George Candler, stewarding the show and sale were Ann Hester, Michael McInerney, and Gerry O’Connell.
As with the previous society sales this year eye catching sons of the renowned Mereside Godolphin were out in force with nine on offer – selling to an average of €4,556. Godolphin sired both the Senior and Junior Champion bulls. Three Plumtree Fantastic sons sold to an average of €4,733.
Lot 8 The sale topper and Senior Champion was NOVINCHRISTIE TYSON from Noel Barry, Swinford, Co. Mayo. Tyson is a son of Mereside Godolphin and the Ampertaine Forman dam Novinchristie Lisa 2. Born in September 2022, Tyson has a Replacement index of €115 and a Terminal index of €143. He was purchased by a Galway based farmer for €5,600.
Lot 23. Also by Mereside Godolphin was the first prize winner MEELICKADUFF TEABAG. November 2022 born Teabag was bred in Castlerea by Michael Hester. Teabag’s dam Meelickaduff Porshe has Wilodge Cerberus and Manoir in her sire stack. Teabag boasts a Replacement index of €121 and a Terminal index of €161. After a flurry of bids Teabag was acquired by a Galway based purchaser for €5,300.
Lot 19. Taking the blue rosette in the same class was CORCAMORE TANGFASTIC from the Limerick based herd of Brendan Curtin. Tangfastic has Plumtree Fantastic, Ampertaine Commander and Grahams Samson in his lineage. November 2022 born Tangfastic has an array of five star ratings including Replacement index, Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter calving interval. He was acquired by a county Meath based purchaser for €5,100.
Lot 9. Castlerea based Micheal Hester sold second prize winning MEELICKADUFF TAYTO for €5,000. Tayto is a September 2022 born son of Mereside Godolphin, his dam Meelickaduff Nike is a daughter of Meelickaduff Lamborghini (a Sympa son, who’s dam is the All-Ireland Champion Meelickaduff Honda Et). Tayto has five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index and Carcass conformation.
Lot 47. The Junior Champion was BALLYLINE U-60827, also a son of Mereside Godolphin. U-60827 was one of three bulls on offer from Bertie Mannion, Curraghboy, Co. Roscommon. All three Ballyline bred bulls realised €5,000. U-60827 oozes style. His dam Ballyline P 715 is a daughter of Moondharrig Knell. Fourteen month old U-60827 has five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Carcass conformation and Daughter Calving interval. The Junior champion was acquired by a Sligo based purchaser.
Lot 49. Reserve Junior champion BALLYLINE U-40833 is a son of Plumtree Fantastic and the Gleannari Everest daughter Ballyline Jenny. U-40833 has five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter calving interval. A Roscommon based customer acquired U-40833 for €5,000.
Lot 48. The third bull on offer from the Ballyline herd was BALLYLINE U-10830. This March 2023 born bull is also a son of Mereside Godolphin, he has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. Third prize winner U-10830 heads to Donegal after making €5,000 in the sales ring.
Lot 10. The Ampertaine Majestic son KELTIC TRIPLECROWN realised a selling price of €4,500 for his breeder Teleri Thomas, Longwood, Co. Meath. Triplecrown has a Replacement index of €107 and a Terminal index of €146. His home bred dam Keltic Incaroyal is a daughter of Ampertaine Foreman. Triplecrown heads to a new home in Longford.
Lot 30. Also selling for €4,500 was GERRYGULLINANE ULTIMO a first prize winner from the herd of Gerry Walsh, Ballina, Co. Mayo. This classy January 2023 born bull is a son of Mereside Godolphin, his dam Gerrygullinane Redhead Et is a daughter of the world record priced bull Trueman Jagger, while his maternal grand-dam is the mother of Gerrygullinane Glen.
Lot 41. Elphin, Co. Roscommon breeder Pat Bruen presented two bulls at the sale – his third prize winner CARROWREAGH UBANK sold for €4,100. Ubank is a son of Plumtree Fantastic and Carrowreagh Mellanie, a daughter of Ampertaine Gigolo. Ubank has a Replacement index value of €118 and a Terminal index of €133.
Lot 42. The second bull on offer from Pat was CARROWREAGH UDONTSAY. This February 2023 born bull has Ampertaine Gigolo, Bavardage and Carmorn Copilot in his sire stack. Udontsay was awarded second place in the presale show. Udontsay has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter milk. He was the choice of a Galway farmer for €4,000.
Lot 21. KELTIC TIGERKING, a November 2022 born son of Hector Gd sold for €4,000. Tigerking came to the ring with five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter milk. His dam is a daughter of Bavardage. Tigerking was bred by Teleri Thomas. Tigerking heads to a new home in Wicklow.
Lot 37. Third prize winner RIVER VIEW UNBEATABULL also realised €4,000. Unbeatabull is a January 2023 born son of Mereside Godolphin and Gerrygullinane Poppy (Gerrygullinane Junior X Ronick Hawk). Unbeatabull was bred by Brian Hogan, Ballinasloe, Co. Roscommon. He was acquired by a Donegal based dairy farmer.
Lot 45. PHILLIPS USMAN from the Sligo based herd of Michael Phillips realised €4,000. Usman is a first prize winning son of Netsurfer and the Norman Inventor daughter Phillips Peaceful. Usman has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. Fifteen month old Usman was purchased by a Roscommon based farmer.
Lot 18. The Norman Inventor son ALOOR THOMAS sold for €3,700. Thomas was bred in Castlerea by Patsy Creighton. He was awarded fourth prize in his class. Thomas’ dam Alora Nules has Castleview Casino and Ronick Iceman in her lineage. This multi-starred bull was the pick of a Roscommon based purchaser.
Lot 29. John and Tom Hickey from Thurles, Co. Tipperary bred BROOKLAND ULTAN, a son of Claddagh Mccabe ET and the Elite Ice Cream Et. Ultan also sold for €3,700. He boasts a Terminal index value of €145 along with five star ratings in Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. Second prize winning Ultan was acquired by a Mayo herd.
Lot 24. The Mayo born bull LOCHANBOY TRAVLER sold for €3,600. November 2022 born Travler was bred by John Flanagan, Ballyhaunis. He is full of French genetics – sired by Gstaad, while his dam has Ultime Ri and On-dit in her sire stack. Multi-starred Travler was acquired by a Ballinasloe based purchaser.
Lot 38. Heading to a new home in Offaly is RHYNE URWIN from the Longford based breeder Mark Hagan. Urwin is a February 2023 born son of Bavardage, his dam Rhyne Madonna has Kaprico Eravelle and Sympa in her lineage. Urwin has five star ratings in almost all traits. The hammer fell at €3,600 for Urwin.
Lot 58. The youngest bull on offer CAVELANDS ULM sold for €3,400 to a Roscommon based purchaser. Born in March 2023, Ulm was bred by Paul Sykes, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo. Ulm is also a son of Mereside Godolphin, his homebred dam Cavelands Diva is a daughter of Neuf. Ulm has a Replacement index of €118 and a Terminal index of €135. He had picked up the fourth place rosette in his class.
Lot 5. AMMAGHMORE TANCO, a second prize winner from Sean Garrett, Ballycastle, Co. Mayo sold for €3,200. Tanco has Mereside Godolphin, Laurel and Sympa in his sire stack. August 2022 born Tanco was purchased by a Roscommon based herd.
Lot 4. Five bulls sold for €3,000 – first at this price was COOLRAIN TIN TIN a third prize winner from Padraic Kennedy, Mountmellick, Co. Laois. Tin Tin is a son of Slieve Pablo.
Lot 13. CROSS TITAN, a son of Goldies Terence also realised €3,000. Titan was bred by Thomas Feehan, Westport, Co. Mayo.
Lot 16. Mervyn Kneafsey, Ballina, Co. Mayo sold SHANKLOUGH TYSON for €3,000. Tyson is fourth prize winning son of Loyal.
Lot 17. MAYTHORN TIAGO, also sired by Loyal was the fourth bull to sell for €3,000. Tiago was presented by Olive McConnon, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.
Lot 55. The final bull to break the €3,000 mark was GALLAWAY UPTON, a March 2023 born son of Ewdenvale Ivor. Upton was bred by Michael Kiernan, Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim.

Lot 59. LISNAGEERAGH TINKER BELL, the Champion Female also left the ring unsold. Tinker Bell is a March 2022 born daughter of Cross Liam. She was bred by Des Joyce, Williamstown, Co. Galway.
