Teleri Thomas and Mac Murphy run the renowned Keltic Limousin herd in Clongiffin, Co. Meath. Established in 2008, the Keltic name has earned a strong reputation in breeding circles in a relatively short time, with several bulls sold into AI and others selected as stock bulls by leading pedigree and commercial herds.

In the lead-up to their third production sale of heifers, an on-farm viewing day was held on Saturday, 12th July. This marked the first time the sale—aptly named “Keltic Classy Lassies”—was hosted on the MartEye online platform via Thurles Mart. Visitors had the opportunity to view not only the heifers on offer, some of which are in-calf, but also their impressive dams.

Keltic Limousin was the birthplace of the highly regarded OKH (Keltic Handsome), also home to the rising star Keltic Rembrandt LM8259 (his first two sons presented at society sales this spring sold to an average of €8,050). Rembrandt is available through Progressive Genetics.

The online sale which kicked off at 7 PM, was a resounding success with all but one of the heifers finding new homes, testament to the excellent quality of the heifers on offer.

The sale boasted an impressive average price of €7,192, with individual prices ranging from €4,400 to a top of €13,200.

Keltic Te Kanawa Leads the Way at €13,200

Lot 4. KELTIC TE KANAWA, an outstanding daughter of Ampertaine Majestic and Keltic Jacaranda (Ampertaine Foreman X Homebyres Visitor) was secured for the highest bid of €13,200. Te Kanawa is the first daughter of Jacaranda to be offered for sale. She is following in the steps of her two maternal brothers, Keltic Seimon and Keltic Pax, who topped the society bull sales in Elphin Premier (2023) and Athenry (2021), respectively. Te Kanawa was sold scanned in calf to Tomschoice Scorpion.

Keltic Vitality Commands €12,200 – The striking Nebbiolo daughter, Lot 8 KELTIC VITALITY, fetched €12,200. Born in January 2024, Vitality’s dam, Keltic Hassandra, is a daughter of Ampertaine Commander and Cwmpedran Cassandra – also the dam of Keltic Jacaranda (Keltic Te Kanawa’s mother). Vitality is a carrier of both the F94L and Q204X genes.

Lot 5 KELTIC URSINIA, another heifer with lineage to Cwmpredran Cassandra, sold for €9,400. This smashing April 2023 born heifer is a daughter of Lorenzo Pp and Keltic Magnolia P (Ivoire Pp X Keltic Jacaranda). Ursinia is a Homozygous Polled heifer and carries two copies of the F94L gene.

Lot 9. KELTIC UQUEEN, a March 2023 daughter of Hector Gd and Keltic Ireine (Bavardage X Wilodge Vantastic) was secured for €8,100. Uqueen is rated in the Top 5% for milk and the top 1% for terminal traits. She is a double F94L gene carrier and is due to calve down in late autumn to Tomschoice Scorpion.

Lot 13. The youngest heifer on offer KELTIC VENETIA, an April 2024 daughter of the homebred Keltic Rembrandt, sold for €8,000. Venetia boasts two copies of the F94L gene and is in the top 5% for maternal, milk, and terminal traits. Her dam, Keltic Nepeta, is a daughter of Kaprico Eravelle.

Lot 10, KELTIC UGANDA, the first daughter of Keltic Ribbons and Tomschoice Lexicon, claimed €6,800. Uganda is in the top 1% of the Limousin breed for milk, replacement, and terminal traits. Her dam, Keltic Ribbons, is a granddaughter of the aforementioned Cwmpedran Cassandra.

Lot 12, KELTIC UNDEG 2, also a daughter of Tomschoice Lexicon, sold for €6,600. Undeg is rated in the top 1% for milk, replacement, and terminal traits. Her dam, Keltic Siriol, is a daughter of Loyal.

The opening heifer, Lot 1, KELTIC UTTERLYREGAL, with Tomschoice Lexicon, Cameos, and Wilodge Vantastic in her lineage, sold for €6,400. This smashing heifer is rated in the top 1% for milk and the top 5% for maternal and terminal traits.
