Kilkenny Agricultural Society held their 50th Annual April Bull Show & Sale at Kilkenny Co-Op Livestock Market on Wednesday 16th April.
The Limousin breed was well represented with 19 bulls on offer, all but three found new homes. Limousin bulls reached an average price of €4,388, with a price range from €3,000 to €5,900. Well known auctioneer George Candler conducted the sale before travelling on to Athenry to hold fort for the society sale the next day.
Topping the sale was Lot 96 from Brendan Hogan. Oldtown Usain, a son of Tomschoice Lexicon and Oldtown Roxana (an Ampertaine Majestic daughter) sold for €5,900. Usain has two copies of the F94L gene.
Lot 102-104. Geraldine Collins presented three sons of Dovea Genetics Ewdenvale Ivor all of these bulls sold to a dairy farmer. First from Geraldines’ Beechmount herd was Beechmount Usher. August 2023 born Usher’s dam is a daughter of Beechmount Major (an On-Dit son). Usher has two copies of the F94L gene. Usher sold for €5,800. Beechmount Upton sold for €5,500. Upton’s dam is Beechmount Irene, a daughter of Mullary Foundation. Beechmount Upturn sold for €5,300, he has Bavardage and Excel in his sire stack. Upturn is a double F94L gene carrier.
