The Irish Limousin cattle society is delighted to announce Kevin Bohan as the 2024 Hall of Fame recipient. Kevin received his award at the awards ceremony on Sunday the 5th May in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone. Presenting the awards was Michael Fitzmaurice TD. Master of Ceremonies was Michael Flanagan, CEO of the National Hall of Fame Awards.

For any of who that may not be aware of Kevin’s involvement with the Limousin breed:

Kevin is highly regarded both in Ireland and the UK as one of the foremost authorities of Limousin cattle. Kevin’s journey with cattle breeding began on the home farm in Longford. He was introduced to pedigree Limousin’s at the Pelletstown herd, where he worked under the tutelage of Dr. Roger McCarrick for many years. His passion for cattle genetics was further advanced when he joined the team at the renowned Ardlea/Elite herd of the Tynan family.

During his tenure at Ardlea/Elite the herd produced many prominent show champions and AI bulls – testament to their success many are still used today including TVR, Ice Cream & Ardlea Dan. Kevin not only has a knack for producing top quality cattle but also an eye for potential, importing new bloodlines – available to and benefiting all breeders.

With Kevin at the helm the team at Ardlea/ Elite kept the flag flying for the Limousin breed by regularly hosting events. The farm visit by the International Limousin congress in 2016 was noted as a standout moment for the global delegation.

Kevin served for many years on the ILCS council, culminating in his election as President. Such posts enabled him to play an active role promoting the breed to the wider farming community and representing the interests of breeders.

Kevin helped to reignite the young members association. Hosting training sessions, mentoring and passing on many skills of the trade – his efforts rewarded when the team bridged the 17-year gap winning the prestigious Anglo Irish trophy.

A highly regarded judge, his credentials have seen him in action in Ireland, the UK and France. Notably Kevin placed Trueman Jagger as Supreme champion in Carlisle – before Jagger went on to become a household name setting a world record price.

Not just a cattleman – Kevin is a friend, a mentor and a gentleman, who always put the breed to the forefront.

We would like to congratulate Kevin on his induction to the Hall of Fame.
