The Irish Limousin Cattle Society would like to congratulate all breeders for making the spring 2022 show and sale season one to remember. With five sales taking place since early March, both the quality and the presentation of Limousin cattle has to be commended.

As a society, we would like to acknowledge all the hard work that breeders put in behind the scenes to have their animals in top condition come sale day. Looking back over the past few months, there are some stats that need to be highlighted, with many venues recording record-breaking price averages and clearance rates for Irish Limousin Society sales.

Elphin Premier Bull Show and Sale: March 12th, 2022

  • Clearance rate: 75%;
  • Top-priced bull: €7,000;
  • Average price: €4,170.

Thurles Bull Show and Sale: April 2nd, 2022

  • Clearance rate: 58%
  • Top-priced bull: €3,700;
  • Average price: €3,100.

Athenry Bull Show and Sale: April 14th, 2022

  • Clearance rate: 62%;
  • Top-priced bull: €5,300;
  • Average price: €3,415.

Roscrea Premier Show and Sale: May 2nd, 2022

Bull highlights:

  • Clearance rate: 93%;
  • Top-priced bull: €6,400;
  • Average price: €4,564;
  • 4 bulls sold for €6,000 or over;
  • 5 bulls sold for €5,000 or over;
  • 15 bulls sold for €4,000 or over.

Heifer highlights:

  • Clearance rate: 80%;
  • Top-priced heifer: €4,500;
  • Average price: €3,225;
  • 2 heifers sold for over €4,000;
  • 2 heifers sold for €3,000 or over.

Roscommon Show and Sale: May 21st, 2022

  • Bull Clearance rate: 82%;
  • Top-priced bull: €5,200;
  • Average bull price: €3,670;
  • 3 bulls sold for €5,000 or over;
  • 8 bulls sold for €4,000 or over;
  • 13 bulls sold for €3,000 or over.

Our focus now turns to show season and celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the society, which will be highlighted with many events over the coming months, including a launch evening at the ILCS office in Cork and the 50th Anniversary Show and Sale in Carrick-on-Shannon in September; this event will include both pedigree and commercial classes, along with an exciting ‘Mega Moo’ €10,000 heifer competition.
