The annual sale in Athenry took place on Friday 16th April 2021, the sale met with a clearance rate of 75% and an average selling price of €3,648. Seven bulls made €4,000 or more, with a further nine making €3,000 or more.

The sale was scheduled to take place on Thursday the 15th, however, due to Covid-19 restrictions and DAFM regulations, the sale was rescheduled at short notice by 24 hours. We would like to thank all those involved in the sale for their support and understanding with this delay. We are incredibly grateful to Marie and Colette and  everyone who helped to spread the word of the delay through social media platforms.

Topping the sale at €6,600 was Keltic Pax a powerful 19 month old multi-starred bull. Pax is steeped in Keltic genetics – he is an outstanding son of Keltic Handsome and Keltic Jacaranda. Oozing style and class Pax came to the ring with five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter caving interval. Pax was bred by Teleri Thomas, Longwood, Co. Meath. With keen interest from the second he stepped into the ring the successful purchaser was a Galway based farmer. Pax is pictured above.

MAGHERA RONAN 2 – €5,500

MAGHERA RONAN 2 an out-standing son of Goldies Jackpot, sold for €5,500. Ronan was bred in Tulla, Co. Clare by Patrick Mulconroy. Fifteen month old Ronan boasts five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter Milk. His home bred dam Maghera Harrison has Ampertaine Commander and Ferry in her sire stack. Ronan also has a muscle score of 135 which is in the top 4%. After a flurry of bids Ronan was tapped down to Andrew Monahan, Tubber, Co. Clare.

SHANNON PAERO – €4,500

The Plumtree Fantastic son SHANNON PAERO from Kerry based breeder Sarah McElligott, Asdee sold for €4,500. Paero is out of the Cloughhead Lord daughter Shannon Enya. Paero has a Replacement index of €92 and a Terminal index of €133. Nineteen month old Paero was the choice of a Kilcolgan based customer.

BRICKHILL PRINCE 2 – €4,500

Also finding a new home at €4,500 was the Cameos son BRICKHILL PRINCE 2. Born in September 2019, Prince 2 was bred by Michael McInerney, Cratloe, Co. Clare. His dam Brickhill Kay has Plumtree Fantastic and Navarin in her lineage. Prince 2 returns to county Clare to the farm of Martin Faule.

MEELICKADUFF POTTINGER – €4,100

Local based farmer Gerard Qualter purchased MEELICKADUFF POTTINGER a son of Lodge Hamlet and the 2017 National Show Champion Meelickaduff Honda Et. Sixteen month old Pottinger was bred by Michael Hester, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon. Pottinger has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. Pottinger’s selling price was €4,100.

NEWTOWN RODGER – €4,100

NEWTOWN RODGER, a January 2020 born son of Ampertaine Commander also sold for €4,100. Rodger was bred by Stanley Richardson, Newtowngore, Co. Leitrim. His dam is the homebred Lodge Hamlet daughter Newtown Kassandra. Boasting an array of five star ratings, Rodger was the pick of Michael Kelly, Kilcolgan.

OLDTOWN PEDRO – €4,000

Westmeath based Philip and John Dixon acquired OLDTOWN PEDRO for €4,000. Pedro has Wilodge Cerberus, Broomfield Regentcey and Finnahy Amigo in his sire stack. Multi-starred Pedro was bred by William Hogan, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Michael McKeown, Castlebar, Co. Mayo sold CURRANE PACO for €3,800. Paco is a son of Plumtree Fantastic and the Ampertaine Foreman daughter Currane Kandy. He has five-star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter calving interval. Paco was purchased by Athenry based Pat Hogan.

RUTLAND PYPER, a Usse son, also realised €3,800. Pyper’s dam Rutland Master Mind has Queenshead Altea and Lino in her lineage. Pyper has five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter Milk. Michael Fleming acquired Pyper for his Tuam based herd.

GLENASHRONE PICASSO – €3,600

Oranmore based Patrick Cooley purchased GLENASHRONE PICASSO for €3,600. Picasso has by Keltic Handsome, Malibu and Rocky in his sire stack. Multi-starred Picasso was bred by Diarmuid O’Riordan, Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick.

The youngest bull on offer NEWTOWN RANGER sold for €3,500. Ranger has Loyal, Wilodge Cerberus and Ronick Hawk in his pedigree. Twelve month old multi-starred Ranger was bred by Stanley Richardson. Ranger was acquired by Ciaran Leech, Co. Meath.

MAYTHORN PAUDIE, a stylish Bavardage son found a new home at €3,400. Paudie was the pick of Denis Beirne, Co. Roscommon. November 2019 born Paudie has five star ratings in Replacement Index, Terminal index, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter milk. Paudie was bred by Martin McConnon, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.

SHANNON PROGRESSIVE sold for €3,300. Progressive is by Edakkya (a top French tested bull) and out of a Nimbus-Mn dam Shannon Catherine. Progressive was bred by Sarah McElligott. He heads to a Galway based herd.

James Parkinson, Cashel, Co. Tipperary accepted €3,100 for his August 2019 born MARLHILL PEDRO. Pedro has five star ratings in many traits. He was acquired by Tony Reilly from Tuam.

Three thousand euro was top call for CURRANE PHOENIX from the herd of Michael McKeown. Phoenix has Plumtree Fantastic, Sarkley Pepsi and Malibu in his sire stack. Phoenix was purchased by Padraig Mannion, Moylough.

Bobby O’Connell, Co. Clarina, Limerick presented the Castleview Lawerencer son BALLYBROWN RONAN at the sale. Ronan’s dam, Roundhill Lunanime 1656, has enjoyed a successful show career, she is a daughter of Elite Ice Cream Et. Ronan sold for €3,000 to Mossy Walsh, Athlone.
