The second society sale for 2018 took place in Gort mart on Friday evening the 16th March 2018. This was the first Limousin Society sale to be held in Gort mart and we are very grateful to Bernie Fahey, Mart Manager and the wonderful team of staff in Gort – they were all extremely helpful and accommodating. The sale saw an average selling price of €3,042.
Judge the show & sale was Mr. Pat Feehily from Athlone. Pat is a pedigree Limousin breeder, his herd – the Ash Grove herd, consists of 20 pedigree Limousin cows. Officiating as auctioneer was Denis Barrett. Steward was Donal Moloney.
Tapped out as Overall Champion was Magheraboy Lucky from the herd of James Coffey, Ballaghadeereen, Co. Mayo. Lucky is a son of the home-bred Towthorpe Dubai son Magheraboy Jackson and the Mas Du Clo dam Cuppenagh Venus. Lucky has a Terminal index of €118 and a Replacemend index of €57. Bartley O’Neill, Corrundulla, Co. Galway purchased this 20 month old.

Local breeder Anthony Glynn, Circular Road, Gort achieved the top price at this sale. Anthony’s 14 month old Grahams Apache bull – Glencarrigh Monster sold for €3,700. Monster’s dam Glencarrigh Jill has Carwin Duke and Wilodge Vantastic in her sire stack. Placed third in his class in the pre-sale show, Monster has a Terminal index of €125 and a Replacement index of €120. Monster will be remaining in Gort as he was purchased by local farmer Sylvie Linnane,

Selling for €3,200 was Corcamore Louis from Brendan Curtin, Clarina, Co. Limerick. Louis is a son of society sire Armoric (a Neuf son) and the French imported dam Babou (a Romario daughter). Louis has five star ratings in Terminal Index, Replacement Index, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter milk. Fourth prize winning Louis returns to Limerick to the suckler herd of Thomas O’Malley, Robertstown, Foynes.

The youngest bull on offer in Gort was Hurricane Moonshine from Darragh O’Meara, Ardnacrusha, Co. Clare. Moonshine has Ampertaine Gigolo, Roundhill Saturn and Ramses in his lineage. With five star ratings in almost every trait, Moonshine was acquired by Tom Hession, Athenry, Co. Galway for €3,000.

Corcamore Legend, a multi-starred Ampertaine Gigolo son sold for €2,550. Legend’s dam, Carwin Helen 2, has Haltcliffe Dancer and Roundhill Saturn in her back pedigree. Seventeen month old Legend was placed second in his class. Bred by Brendan Curtin, Clarina, Co. Limerick, Legend was purchased by Athenry based Vincent Green.
Third prize winning Mullaghboy Lar was purchased by Vivian Diviney, Tubber, Co. Galway for €2,300. Lar, a son of Ardlea Dan and Mullaghboy Fidelma came to the ring with a Terminal Index value of €112 and a Replacement index value of €66. Lar was bred by Matthew Fee, Corrawallen, Co. Leitrim.
The Reserve Champion at this show and sale was Maghera Lightning from Patrick Mulconroy, Tulla, Co. Clare. Lightning has Fieldson Alfy, Ideal 23, Cloughhead Umpire and Ferry in his lineage. He left the ring unsold having failed to meet his reserve.
