Liam and Neil Lyons:
We wish to extend a warm welcome to you all to the first production sale of Carrowneden Limousins.
The Carrowneden sale lots consist of our 2024-born maiden heifers and one heifer born in 2025. These heifers come from some of our most proven and prolific bloodlines and offer a unique opportunity for established and new Limousin breeders to acquire superior quality females.
The Carrowneden herd was founded in 1992 with the purchase of a two-year-old heifer from the famed Cody Ballysorrell herd in Tipperary, and a cow, Duhallow Unice, with her heifer calf at foot Ballincar Grace from James Young in Sligo. Much of the herd is descended from these foundation cows. Bloodlines have also been introduced from the Ardlea, Powerful and Bovinion herds.
Over the past 33 years, AI has been used extensively, with the focus on producing cattle that have superior carcases, are easily calved, with exceptional maternal qualities and strong Limousin breed characteristics. We believe our sale heifers are excellent examples of the type of cattle we are striving to breed.
In recent years, the Carrowneden herd has participated in the North West Limousin Herds Competition, taking 1st prize in the medium herd category in 2022 and 2023, as well as 2nd prize in the large herd category in 2021 and 2024, along with numerous other individual and group accolades.
Viewing of our sale heifers is available on the farm at our open day, in conjunction with the North West Limousin Club, on Sunday, July 20th, from 2pm. All visitors are welcome.
Finally, we are extremely grateful and indebted to everyone who has helped in any way to prepare the cattle for this sale, and especially to Denis Barrett and his team.
