The final spring sale of the year kicked off in Roscommon Mart on Saturday, May 20th. Tom Finnerty was tasked with judging the Senior and Junior Male Championships, alongside the Female Championship.
82% of the bulls presented for sale found new homes on the day, with the top price of €6,400 achieved.

It was lot number 5 – Clontown Sugar Daddy – who took home the Senior Championship. Bred by the Treanor Brothers, he later sold for €6,400. He impresses with 5-stars on the Replacement and Terminal Indexes, while also carrying 5-stars for carcass and conformation; he is 3% for calving difficulty on beef cows.
The Reserve Senior Champion was bred by Co. Roscommon breeder, Patrick Bruen, with his bull Carrowreagh Tyson. A son of Plumtree Fantastic, Tyson has a Terminal Index value of €139 and is 5% calving difficulty on beef cows; the hammer fell at €4,700.
Taking top spot in Junior Male Championship was lot number 40, Ballyline Timmie. Bred by Bertie Mannion, Timmie is a son of Mereside Godolphin and a Wilodge Cerberus-bred dam. He carries a 5-star terminal index of €148 and a calving figure of 3.8% on beef cows; he made €5,600 on the day.

Reserve Champion in the Junior Male Championship was awarded to Ballyline Toro. Again bred by Bertie Mannion. Sired by Mereside Godolphin, he carries 5-stars on the Terminal Index with a value of €134 and is just 3.7% calving difficulty on beef cows. He failed to meet his reserve on the day.

Lot number 43, Buckfield Tryone, was bred for Norah Moore, from Co. Mayo. Tryone is sired by Hirohito going back to a Wilodge Cerberus-bred dam. In the sale ring, he went under the hammer for €6,000.

Liverpool Theo went under the hammer for €5,200. Bred by Roscommon breeder Kevin Graham and sired by Plumtree Fantastic, Theo boasts 5 stars on the Replacement and Terminal Index, and for carcass and conformation; he is just 2.8% calving difficulty on beef cows.

Additionally, lot number 8 – Ruan Santos by Sean Lyons from Co. Clare– made €5,000. Santos has a page full of stars and is sired by Liscarn Johnny.
Selling for €4,500, River View Trueman was bred by Brian Hogan from Co. Galway. A Plumtree Fantastic son going back to a Gerryguillinane Junior-bred dam, this bull is as low as 1.3% calving difficulty on beef cows.

Lot number 37, Gallaway Trueman also sold for €4,500 for Michael McKeown; this bull was sired by Ewdenvale Ivor going back to a Grangeford Jojo ET-bred dam.

Also hitting €4,500 was lot number 41, Ballyline Timothy. Born in March 2022, he carries 4-stars on the Replacement and 5-stars on the Terminal Index and 5-stars for carcass weight and conformation; he was bred by Bertie Mannion.
Next up was Cappaduff Tiktoc West. Bred by Joe Moran, Tiktoc West went under the hammer for €4,300.

Michael McKeown achieved €4,200 for his bull – Currane Troy, while the hammer also fell at €4,200 for Ballyline Tiger – bred by Bertie Mannion. Additionally, Ballyline Torus made €4,200 on the day – again by Mr. Mannion.

Patrick Logan secured €3,900 with his bull, Creenagh Tommy, while €3,850 was paid for Michael McTigue’s bull, Heather Field Sherlock.

Lot 1 and Lot 31, Bunnymore Spencer and Bunnymore Teddy went under the hammer for €3,500 for Leitrim breeder, Michael Reynolds.

The Female Championship was awarded to lot 54, Ohill Tess, bred by Patrick Beirne. Born in January 2022 and sired by Claddagh McCabe ET, Tess sold failed to meet her reserve on the day.

The Reserve Female Champion – Clooncara Limousins Tiger Lill – was from the herd of David Cogan, Co. Mayo. She later went under the hammer for €2,500.

Two more heifers were successfully sold on the day; Castleshane Tammy, by Gerard Greenan, sold for €2,000, while €2,800 was paid for Des Joyce’s heifer, Lisnageeragh Suise.
A draft sale of 10 heifers from the Carrowreagh Herd were also included on the day and a top price of €2,100 was secured in this section.
