The second Premier show and sale of 2024 took place on Bank Holiday Monday 6th May in Roscrea Mart. Judging duties fell to Mr. Neil Martin of the Ashmara herd based in Dromara, Co. Down.
The average selling price for bulls was €4,708, with a 76% clearance rate.

Topping the sale was the very appropriately named Lot 35 CLONBONNY UNBEATABLE from the Westmeath based herd of Tony and Darren Hartnett. Tapped out as Junior Champion, this very stylish young bull oozes style. Unbeatable is a son of Ampertaine Jackpot and the homebred Plumtree Fantastic dam Clonbonny Phoenix. He has five star ratings in Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. With keen interest ringside and online Unbeatable was secured by a Galway based farmer for €8,800.
Lot 40.The first prize winner BALLYLINE U-40825 sold for €6,500. U-40825 is a very choice son of Tomschoice Lexicon and the Wilodge Cerberus daughter Ballyline Iris. He came to the ring with five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter milk. U-40825 was bred by Bertie Mannion, Athlone.
Lot 10. The red rosette winning Plumtree Fantastic son CORCAMORE TARGARYEN realised €6,400. Born in October 2022, Targaryen boasted five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter calving. His Terminal index value of €182 puts him in the top 1% of the breed. Targaryen’s dam Grangeford Kacie has Ampertaine Commander and Wilodge Cerberus in her pedigree. Targaryen was bred in Clarina, Co. Limerick by Brendan Curtin.
Lot 7. RUTLAND TYSON, a second prize winning son of Queenshead Altea and Rutland Rubi (a Goldies Jackpot daughter) sold for €6,200. Tyson has a Replacement index value of €123 and a Terminal index value of €122. He was bred in Ballina, Co. Mayo by Noel Ruttledge. This stylish September 2022 born bull was the pick of a county Limerick based purchaser.
Lot 36. Multi-starred BRICKHILL ULLRICH changed abode for €5,700. Ullrich is a February 2023 born son of Tomschoice Lexicon and the Plumtree Fantastic dam Brickhill Lena. Placed third in his class in the pre-sale show, Ullrich was the pick of a county Cork based farmer. Ullrich was breed in Cratloe, Co. Clare by Michael McInerney.
Lot 19. The Lodge Hamlet son BURRENVIEW FARM TOFFEE POP sold for €5,400. Toffee Pop’s dam Ruan Putin has Wilodge Formulaone and Procter Cavalier in her sire stack. He claimed fourth prize in his class. Toffee Pop has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. Toffee pop was bred in Crusheen, Co. Clare by Carina Roseingrave.
Lot 22. GERRYGULLINANE TORQUE ET, a son of Gerrygullinane Phoenix sold for €5,400. Torque’s dam Derrygullinane Elsia Et is also the dam of the noted Derrygullinane Kingbull. Torque has five star ratings in Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. He was bred in Ballina, Co. Mayo by Gerry Walsh.
Lot 33. Ciaran Bogue of Belturbet, Co. Cavan accepted €5,200 for STRAGHEGLIN ULSTER. Born in February 2023, Ulster has Fuschia, Wilodge Cerberus and Ampertaine Commander in his sire stack. Ulster has a Replacement index value of €103 and a Terminal index value of €139. A Tipperary based customer acquired Ulster for €5,200.
Lot 21. CLONTOWN TREANOR, a son of Mereside Lorenzo and the Ampertaine Foreman dam Clontown Lucy sold for €4,700. Treanor has five star ratings in Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. He was successfully shown in 2023, among his accomplishments was first prize in his class at the National show. Treanor was bred by Kieran and Kevin Trenor, Scotstown, Co. Monaghan.
Lot 39. The second prize winning Mereside Godolphin son BALLYLINE U-30824 sold for €4,700. U-30824 dam Ballyline Jo has Gleannari Everest and Elite Angle (Et) in her lineage. With an array of five star ratings U-30824 was snapped up by a county Carlow based purchaser. U-30824 was bred by Bertie Mannion.
Lot 45. Longford based breeder Brendan Hanley presented two bulls from his Keeltown herd at the sale. Both bulls are March 2023 sons for Tomschoice Lexicon. Both have five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter Milk. Reaching a selling price of €4,700 was KEELTOWN Uri. His dam Keeltown Lisa is a daughter of Ampertaine Foreman. Uri was acquired by a Tipperary based customer.
Lot 44. His herd-mate KEELTOWN UKRAINE sold for €4,600. Ukraine’s dam Keeltown Gessica has Ampertaine Commander and Barnhill Ivan in her back pedigree.
Lot 18. Second prize winning SPRINGVALLEY TYSON sold for €4,600. Tyson has Plumtree Fantastic, Ampertaine Elgin and Bouffy in his sire stack. Tyson was bred by Martin and Kieran Killeen, Mullagh, Co. Clare. Multi-starred Tyson was the pick of a county Down based purchaser.
Lot 27. LIVERPOOL UMPIRE from the Boyle, Co. Roscommon based herd of Kevin Graham sold for €4,600. Umpire is a stylish son of Mereside Godolphin and the Kaprico Eravelle daughter Liverpool Melanie. Umpire placed second in his class in the presale show.
Lot 42. Bertie Mannion returned to the ring with his fourth prize winner BALLYLINE U-80829, this fourteen month old bull is a son of Mereside Godolphin. He has five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. U-80829 was acquired by a Cavan based farmer for €4,500.
Lot 3. The Reserve Senior Champion MILBROOK TAGGERT sold for €4,400. Twenty one month old Taggert is a multi-starred son of Carrickmore Maximus Et and the Lodge Hamlet daughter Milbrook Prettyspice Et. His sire Maximus is a son of the renowned show female Baileys Iceprincess while his dam Prettyspice is a daughter of the legendary Milbrook Ginger Spice. Taggert was purchased by a Westmeath based customer from his breeder William Smith, Oldcastle, Co. Meath.
Lot 15. PARKHILL TAKEOVER, a son of Slieve Pablo sold for €4,300. November 2022 born Takeover was bred by Joe Maher, Ballyfoyle, Co. Kilkenny. He claimed third prize in his class. A Cork based customer acquired Takeover.
Lot 9. Second prize winner CURRANE TOBY sold for €4,000. Toby is steeped in French genetics, he is a son of Hector Gd, his dam Crocan Holly has Casimir and Mas du Clo in her sire stack. Toby has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter milk. Toby was purchased by a Monaghan farmer from his breeder Michael McKeown, Castlebar, Co. Mayo.
Lot 16. Two bulls sold for €3,800. First at this price was the third prize winner PARKHILL TUCKER from Joe Maher. Tucker is a son of Grangeford Jojo ET and the Queenshead Altea daughter Parkhill Jacinta.
Lot 23. Also at €3,800 was RUTLAND TROOPER from Noel Rutledge. Trooper has Ampertaine Metric, Lodge Hamlet and Queenshead Altea in his pedigree.
Lot 12. The Telfers Munster son MONAGH TOPMAN sold for €3,700. Topman was bred by Nigel Peavoy from Portlaoise. October 2022 born Topman was acquired by a Tipperary based customer.
Lot 30. CLONBONNY UHO, sold for €3,600. Uho has Plumtree Fantastic, Elite Flag Et and Towthorpe Dubai in his sire stack. Uho was placed third in his class.
Lot 11. The fourth prize winner CARREFOUR TITAN 2 is a son of Derrygullinane Kingbull and Carrefour Natasha Et (a Sympa daughter). Titan was bred by John Kenny, Birr, Co. Offaly. Titan changed hands for €3,400.
Lot 29. Multi-starred RATHNESTIN ULTAN sold for €3,300. Ultan is a son of Kaprico Eravelle, his dam Rathnestin Nancy has Plumtree Fantastic and Nenuphar in her pedigree. Ultan was bred by Raymond Bird, Dundalk, Co. Louth.
Lot 13. Shane Sheridan, Loughduff, Co. Cavan accepted €3,100 for MEADOWVIEW TORPEDO, a son of Tomschoice Imperial. Torpedo has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation.
Lot 26. Three thousand euro was top call for GRANGEFORD ULTIMATE a son of Grangeford Jojo ET. Ultimate was bred in Bennekerry, Co. Carlow by Gary Morrissey. Ultimate was purchased by a farmer from Kilkenny.
The Senior Champion of the show was SPRINGVALLEY THRUNTON, a Norman Inventor son from the herd of Martin and Kieran Killeen, Mullagh. Thrunton went unsold having failed to meet his reserve.
Similarly, the Reserve Junior Champion CREENAGH UNDERDOG went unsold. Underdog is a son of Ampertaine Gigolo. He was bred in Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim by Pat Logan.
HEIFERS
A catalogue entry of 25 heifers saw 22 forward for sale resulting in a 64% clearance and an average selling price of €3,464.
Lot 59. Female Champion CARRICKMORE TIGERROSE ET topped the sale at €5,600. Tigerrose is a daughter of Ampertaine Nugent and Baileys Flora, a Queenshead Altea daughter. Flora is a maternal is a sister of 2016 World Congress Champion Baileys Iceprincess. Tigerrose has five star ratings in Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight, and Carcass conformation. Tigerrose was bred by John and Karol Connell, Oldcastle, Co. Meath. After a flurry of bids, she was acquired by a county Louth based purchaser.
Lot 64. A first prize winning Haltcliffe Dancer daughter MEENROSS TOP LADY sold for €4,100. Top Lady was bred in Scariff, Co. Clare by James O’Grady, she came to the ring with five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. This powerful lady was purchased by a Kilkenny based farmer.
Lot 49. Third prize winner GRANGEFORD STRAWBERRY LOLLIPOP sold for €3,900. Strawberry Lollipop was bred by Gary Morrissey, Bennekerry, Co. Carlow. She is a daughter of Grangeford Jojo ET and the Foxhillfarm Irishlad dam Tweeddale Lollipop. A Mullingar, Co. Westmeath purchaser acquired Lollipop for €3,900.
Lot 46. BRICKHILL SENORITA, a daughter of Loyal sold for €3,800 to a Limerick based suckler farmer. Senorita is due to calve in June to Slieve Pablo. She has a Replacement index of €11 and a Terminal index of €141. first prize winning Senorita was bred by Michael McInerney, Cratloe, Co. Clare.
Lot 50. Kevin Graham presented two heifers from his Boyle, Co. Roscommon based Liverpool herd. First up was the second prize winner LIVERPOOL SADIE, a daughter of Tomschoice Lexicon and the Mereside Godolphin daughter Liverpool Patrice. Sadie has an array of five star ratings. She was served to Tweedale Lennox in January. Sadie sold to a Monaghan based purchaser for €3,800.
Lot 55. Kevin’s third prize winner LIVERPOOL TARA sold for €3,600. Tara has Mereside Godolphin, Ampertaine Commander and Ampertaine Abracadabra in her pedigree. She was served to Slieve Pablo in January. Tara was acquired by a county Laois based herd.
Lot 52.Three thousand five hundred was top call for GRANGEFORD TIA, a fourth prize winner from Gary Morrissey. Tia has Ampertaine Elgin, Wilodge Vantastic, Wilodge Cerberus and Dinmore Goldcrest in her pedigree. She sold to a county Cork farmer for €3,500.
Lot 47. The Keltic herd of Teleri Thomas, Longwood, Co. Meath presented two in calf heifers at the show and sale. Fourth prize winner KELTIC SERENITY realised €3,400. Serenity is a daughter of Tomschoice Lexicon, with Lodge Hamlet and Greenwell Major in her back pedigree. Serenity has five star ratings in most traits. She is due to calf down in September to Keltic Superfurry. She was acquired by a Tipperary based farmer.
Lot 48. Her herd mate KELTIC SUNFLOWER was purchased by a Mayo based customer for €3,000. Sunflower has Keltic Handsome and Bapton Javelin in her sire stack. Sunflower is due to calve in September to Loyal.
Pat Logan of Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim sold four heifers from his Creenagh herd. Topping the consignment was CREENAGH UNA (Lot 67). Una is a second prize winner. She is a daughter of Plumtree Fantastic. Una has five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Carcass conformation and Daughter calving interval. Una sold for 4400
Lot 68. The fourth prize winner CREENANGH UNIVERSE sold for €3,000. Universe is a daughter of Ampertaine Elgin. Her dam Creenagh Magic is a daughter of Castleview Gringo. She now heads to Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny.
Lot 63.MEENROSS TWILIGHT ET, a daughter of Craigatoke Jack, sold for €2,700. Twilight was bred by James O’Grady, Scariff, Co. Clare. Lady has five star ratings in Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. She was secured by an Offaly based purchaser.
Lot 62. Third prize winner CREENAGH TARA 2 ET sold for €2,600. Tara 2 has Wilodge Cerberus, Sympa and Gamin in her pedigree.
Lot 70. CREENAGH UNI a daughter of Creenagh Rocko sold for €2,400. Uni has five star ratings in Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation.
