The annual Bank Holiday Premier show and sale took place in Roscrea mart on Monday the 28th of October 2024, a jammed packed catalogue included 89 bulls, 34 heifers and incorporated the dispersal sale of the renowned Drummin herd. Taking charge of auctioneer duties was George Candler. Judging the pre-sale show was Mr. Trevor Shields of the Glenmarshal herd based in Newry, Northern Ireland. Trevor is owner of the Glenmarshal herd which he runs with his son William. They had a tremendous year on the show circuit in 2024,  at Armagh Show with Glenmarshal Theduchess, Limousin Champion and also Interbreed Championship. A heifer acquired by Trevor – Dinmore Sensation – has proved her worth to the herd by winning the Supreme Overall Champion and Interbreed Champion in Balmoral show 2024!

Both the Senior Male and Female champion recorded five figure price tags. A clearance rate of 68% for bulls with an average selling price of €4,575, while the heifers met with a clearance of 85% and an average price of €3,805.

Show judge Trevor Shields commented: “The top end of each class presented to me was very good. The Champions and Reserves would have stood out in any event. Thank you very much to the Irish Limousin Cattle Society for inviting me to judge.“

Lot 27. Topping the bull section was the striking Senior Champion TEMPLEQUAIN URI from the Portlaoise based herd of Brendan O’Shea. Uri is a son of Hector Gd and Templequain Melissa, a Wilodge Joskins daughter. Uri boasts a five star Terminal index of €150, along with five star ratings in Dairy Beef, Carcass weight and Carcass Conformation. After a flurry of bids, he was acquired by a Westmeath based suckler herd for €10,400.

Senior Champion TEMPLEQUAIN URI – €10,400

Lot 82. The Reserve Junior champion HURRICANE ULTRABEAT ET sold for €9,000. Ultrabeat was Junior Champion and Reserve Over All Male Champion in the National show in Tullamore. Ultrabeat is a son of Ampertaine Foreman and Hurricane Lady Hawk Et (Ampertaine Elgin X Coppertop Frankie), this lineage has also produced Hurricane Scatman ET who stood as Junior Champion in Roscrea 2022. Ultrabeat was bred by Darragh O’Meara, Ardnacrusha, Clare.

Reserve Junior champion HURRICANE ULTRABEAT ET – €9,000

Lot 31. First prize winner TOWNLEYHALL USEFUL found a new home at €8,800. Useful is a son of Bel Orient. He came to the ring with a Replacement index of €125 and a Terminal index of €156. Born in April 2023 Useful is no stranger to the winner’s enclosure having secured prizes in both Virginia and Trim Shows. Useful was bred by Derek Russell, Drogheda, Louth.

First prize winner TOWNLEYHALL USEFUL – €8,800

Lot 67. Junior Champion WOOD ROAD ULTAN sold for €7,200. Ultan is a multi-starred son of Ampertaine Majestic and Wood Road Fauna Et (a daughter of the highly regarded Ov Nadia B). Ultan was bred by Noel Fennessy, Castleconnell, Limerick. Fifteen month old Ultan was the choice of a Donegal based farmer.

Junior Champion WOOD ROAD ULTAN – €7,200

Lot 89. The youngest bull catalogued was the Ampertaine Elgin son CASTLEBROCK UNCLE ALBERT ET. This thirteen month old bull secured a selling price of €6,400. Uncle Albert placed second in his class. He was shown during the summer and was Reserve Junior Champion at Tullamore 2024 and Overall Male Champion of the North East Calf Final. Uncle Albert was bred by Gerard Davis, Ballinalee, Longford.

CASTLEBROCK UNCLE ALBERT ET – €6,400

Lot 44. ERNEVALLEY UNDREDOG, a second prize winner realised €6,100. Undredog is a May 2023 born son of Keltic Pader (Keltic Handsome X Cameos); Pader is a stock sire in the Ernevalley herd. Undredog’s dam Ernevalley Mulan is a Kaprico Eravelle daughter. Multi-starred Undredog was bred by Eddie Lynch, Loughduff, Cavan.

Lot 37. The Telfers Munster son MULLARY URUGUAY sold for €5,800. Uruguay has an array of five star ratings including Replacement (€145) and Terminal (€143). His dam Bishopland Missy is a Hamac daughter. Uruguay claimed Fourth prize in his class. He was bred by Michael Molloy, Dunleer, Louth.

Lot 13. A number of today’s lots were acquired by Northern Ireland based customers including PORTAUNS U IVOR from the herd of Laurence Lynch, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick. U Ivor has five star ratings in Replacement, Terminal, Dairy Beef, Gestation Length, Carcass weight and Carcass confirmation. He has Ewdenvale Ivor, Bavardage and Queenshead Altea in his sire stack. He sold for €5,700.

Lot 10. KNOCKCROGHERY U 2 ET, a first prize winning Bel Orient son claimed a selling price of €5,500. His dam Knockcroghery Kardashian Et is a former National Junior Champion. U 2 was bred by Declan Miley, Moate, Westmeath. This stylish bull was the choice of a Roscommon based purchaser.

Lot 14. Heading to county Kildare is second prize winner MULLARY USEFUL. April 2023 born Useful has Tomschoice Lexicon, Plumtree Fantastic and Millbrook Tanko in his lineage. Multi-starred Useful was bred by Michael Molloy, Dunleer, Louth, he realised a selling price of €5,500.

Lot 3. SHANKLOUGH UGO a third prize winner realised €5,400 for his breeder Mervyn Kneafsey, Ballina, Mayo. Ugo is a son of Loyal and the Lodge Hamlet daughter Cloverhill Marilyn. Born in February 2023, Ugo has five star ratings in Terminal index, Dairy Beef, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. Ugo heads to a new abode in Kildare.

Third prize winner SHANKLOUGH UGO – €5,400

Lot 55. CAPPONELLAN UNDEFEATED, a May-2023 born son of Plumtree Fantastic sold for €5,400 to a Galway based farmer. Undefeated was bred by Thomas Bowe, Durrow, Laois. Undefeated boasts five star ratings in both Replacement and Terminal Index.

Lot 30. MORHAN ULTAN, an April 2023 born son of Ampertaine Foreman sold for €5,250. Ultan’s dam Mount Scott Marie 2 also produced Morhan Peter who sold to the Maraiscote herd in Scotland and is sire of Maraiscote Tangerine – unbeaten on the UK show circuit. Ultan was bred by Brian Moroney, Quility, Clare.

Lot 73. Heading to scenic county Kerry is CLOONCARA LIMOUSINS ULTRA, a first prize winner. Ultra was bred by David Cogan, Kilmovee, Mayo. This 15 month old bull has Ampertaine Jackpot, Wilodge Tonka and Ionesco in his sire stack. Ultra has a Replacement index of €121 and a Terminal index of €148. Ultra commanded a selling price of €5,200.

Lot 24. Five thousand euro was top call for the Fourth prize winner CORCAMORE UTAH. This young bull has Bel Orient, Tomschoice Iceberg and Bavardage in his sire stack. He has five star ratings in Terminal index, Dairy Beef, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter Milk. Utah was bred in Clarina, Limerick by Brendan Curtin. Utah was the pick of a Laois based herd.

Fourth prize winner CORCAMORE UTAH – €5,000

Lot 21. The Second prize winner CLOONCARA LIMOUSINS UPSHOT realised €4,700 for his breeder David Cogan, Kilmovee, Mayo. Upshot is a son of Ampertaine Jackpot and Titchburn Gucci (Wilodge Vantastic X Domino). Upshot has five star ratings in Terminal index, Age at finish, Carcass weight and Carcass Conformation. Upshot heads to a new home in Louth.

Second prize winner CLOONCARA LIMOUSINS – €4,700

Lot 41. MULLARY UPTOWN, a Grenache son from the herd of Michael Molloy, Dunleer, Louth sold for €4,600. Uptown has five star ratings in most traits. He was the pick of a Wicklow based herd.

Lot 11. Selling for €4,500 was AMMAGHMORE ULTAN from the herd of Sean Garrett, Ballycastle, Mayo.  Ultan is a multi-starred son of Kaprico Eravelle and the Ampertaine Commander daughter Ammaghmore Kandi. He was acquired by a Laois based farmer.

Lot 71. Third prize winner MEENROSS UNIQUE sold for €4,300. Unique has Mereside Godolophin, Ampertaine Foreman and Wilodge Vantastic in his sire stack. He was bred in Scariff, Clare by James O’Grady. Unique heads to county Wicklow.

Lot 47. The Letiprince  son CRILLAUNE UMBERTO placed fourth in his class before going on to sell for €4,700. Umberto has an array of five star ratings. He was bred by Patrick Kenny, Castlebar, Mayo.

Lot 70. Third prize winner MEENROSS UNBELIEVABULL ET sold for €4,200 to a herd in Northern Ireland. Unbelievabull has Haltcliffe Dancer, Wilodge Vantastic and Malibu in his sire stack. He was bred by James O’Grady, Scariff, Clare.

Lot 40.  LIVERPOOL UBERTO, a May 2023 born Bavardage son sold for €4,000. Uberto was bred by Kevin Graham, Boyle, Roscommon. Uberto has a Replacement index of €105 and a Terminal index of €141. He heads to county Cork.

Lot 77. The Second prize winner SLIABH FELIM UNBELIEVABULL ET was purchased by a Galway based farmer for €4,000. Unbelievabull is a son of Bavardage and Sliabh Felim Fivision (Vison X Jeu). Unbelievabull was bred by Sean Ryan, Cappamore, Limerick.

Lot 46. The reserve Senior champion was the Westpit Omaha son CAPPONELLAN UNFLAPPABLE ET, he left the ring unsold having failed to meet his reserve. Unflappable was bred by Thomas Bowe, Durrow, Laois.

It was very much “Ladies day” in Roscrea with the majority of heifers (85%) on offer finding new homes.

Lot 96. CARRICKMORE TINA BABY ET Champion heifer was from John and Karol Connell, Oldcastle, Meath. This heifer needs no introduction having been a regular fixture on the show scene and amassing an array of championship wins. Born in September-2022, Tina Baby is the first heifer to be offered for sale from the World Limousin Congress Champion Baileys Iceprincess, a cow that has produced many champions and top priced bulls including Carrickmore Schumacher ET and Carrickmore Maximus Et. After a flurry of bids both online and ringside, she was tapped down for the sale’s top price of €12,100 .

Champion Heifer CARRICKMORE TINA BABY ET – €12,100

Lot 97. Standing as Reserve Champion Female and from the same class as the Champion was CLONTOWN TOPPY, a powerful Gerrygullinane Glen daughter from Kieran and Kevin Treanor, Scotstown, Co. Monaghan. Toppy’s dam Clontown Poppy (Et) is a maternal sister of Clontown Konkey who was Reserve Male Champion in Tullamore in 2016. Toppy sold in calf to a Mas Du Clo son, she is due to calf in early May. Born in September 2022, Toppy has a muscle score of 128 and a Skeletal score of 134.Toppy was acquired by a herd in Northern Ireland for €8,000.

Lot 109. Red rosette winner BRADDEN BRIDGE UR SOHOT sold for €5,300. Ur Sohot is a April 2023 born daughter of Creenagh Rocko (a former Male Champion at the National show in Tullamore) and Ronick Roxy (a Westpit Nando daughter). She has a Replacement index of €111 and a Terminal index of €141. Ur Sohot was bred by Gareth McGuinness, Drogheda, she was acquired by a Monaghan based purchaser.

Lot 93. Third prize winner CLONMAHON TERRI sold for €5,000. Terri is an April 2022 born daughter of Goldies Jackpot and Clonmahon Popcorn Et (Ronick Hawk X Genereux). She was bred by Eddie Daly, Summerhill, Meath. Terri has been served to Tomschoice Lexicon. She was acquired by a UK based herd.

Lot 104. €3,700 was top call for BALLINASCRAW ULRIKA from the herd of John & Stephen Lynch, Ballinalee, Longford. Ulrika is a daughter of Claddagh Mccabe (Et) and Ballinascraw Penny (Goldies Jackpot X Lodge Hamlet). She was served to Drumline 1185. Born in January 2023, she now heads to county Galway.

Lot 95. Also heading to Galway is Fourth prize winner LIVERPOOL TANYA. Born in August 2022, Tanya has Plumtree Fantastic, Bavardage and Shire Milton in her sire stack. With five star ratings in many traits including Terminal index and Carcass weight. Tanya sold in calf to Slieve Pablo. Tanya was bred by Kevin Graham, Boyle, Roscommon. She sold for €3,600.

Lot 99. Second prize winner BRICKHILL TESS also sold for €3,600. Tess is a November 2022 born daughter of Fuschia and Brickhill Naomi (Mereside Godolophin X Plumtree Fantastic). Tess has a Replacement index of €121 and a Terminal index of €149. She was bred by Michael Mcinerney, Cratloe, Clare and heads to a new home in county Mayo.

Lot 120. The Ernevalley Madison Et daughter MEELICKADUFF USA sold for €3,600. At just 13 months old, USA picked up the blue rosette in her class. Her dam Meelickaduff Lola has Wilodge Cerberus and Sympa in her sire stack. She was bred by Michael Hester, Castlerea, Roscommon and heads to a new home in Laois.

Lot 90. A Galway purchaser paid a  price of €3,500 for LIVERPOOL TAMARA to her breeder Kevin Graham. Tamara is a stylish multi-starred daughter of Plumtree Fantastic and Liverpool Melanie (Kaprico Eravelle X Cloughhead Ernie). Born in January-2022, she sold in calf to Ronick Hawk.

Lot 119. The Pabo Rocknroll daughter, 14 month old MEENROSS UNSTOPPABLE won her class before claiming a selling price of €3,500. Unstoppable was bred by James O’Grady, Scariff, Clare. Her dam Meenross Nova Et is a full brother of Meenross Leader, the Male Champion in Tullamore 2017. Unstoppable heads to county Limerick.

Lot 121. Third prize winner TEMPLEQUAIN USABELLE sold for €3,300. Usabelle is a September 2023 born daughter of Carrickmore Maximus Et. She boasts a five star Terminal index of €162. She was bred in the home of the Champion Bull Templequain Uri by Brendan O’ Shea, Rathdowney, Laois. This heifer was purchased by a Westmeath based herd.

Lot 122. Heading to a new home in Tuam is the fourth prize winner BRICKHILL UNITY. Bred in Cratloe, by Michael Mcinerney, Unity has Loyal, Ampertaine Foreman and Wilodge Vantastic in her sire stack. The hammer fell at €3,000 for 13 month old Unity.
