Dancer son Milbrook Terence topped an outstanding trade for Limousin bulls at the first society sale of 2024. The sale held on Easter Monday in Roscrea had a catalogue of 65 bulls, however 45 of these were presented on the day with all but one finding new homes in a very brisk trade. Average selling price was €5,739, testament to the dedication of our breeders and the knowledge of the commercial farmer that Limousin is paying dividends at both marts and factories nationwide.

Tasked with judging the presale show was renowned British breeder Melanie Alford of the noted Foxhillfarm herd based in Devon. Many thanks to our show judge Melanie, auctioneer George Candler, the management and staff of Roscrea mart, or stewards Ann Hester, John O’Reilly, Michael McInerney and Michael Phillips. Lot 30. Melanie tapped out the striking Haltcliffe Dancer son MILBROOK TERENCE ET as her Senior Champion. Terence’s is steeped in outstanding genetics – his grand-dam is a household name on the show scene – Milbrook Ginger Spice, while his dam is Milbrook Naughtyspice Et – last year’s Supreme Champion in Balmoral show, she is a full sister to Wilodge Poshspice – the heifer that set a new world record in Carlisle when she was sold as a 14-month old in 2021 for 250,000gns. With his outstanding pedigree Terence is sure to make a huge impression in his new home. Terence was bred in Oldcastle, Co. Meath by William Smith. After sustained bidding the hammer fell at €17,000 for this 18 month old champion.

 

Second prize winner CLONTOWN TOMBOY (ET) €8,700

Lot 35. Second prize winner CLONTOWN TOMBOY (ET) sold for €8,700. Tomboy was bred in county Monaghan by the Treanor family. This very stylish eye catching bull was born in September 2022. Tomboy is a son of Ampertaine Elgin and the Wilodge Vantastic dam Claragh Oracle, also the dam of last October’s Premier show and sale Female Champion – Clontown Stooki. Tomboy boasts five star ratings in many traits.

Reserve Junior Champion RUTLAND TOBY – €7,200

Lot 38. The Reserve Junior Champion was awarded to RUTLAND TOBY from the herd of Noel Ruthledge, Ballina, Co. Mayo. Toby is a son of Ampertaine Metric and Rutland Natalie, a Tomschoice Iceberg daughter. Toby came to the ring with an array of five star ratings. September 2022 born Toby oozed class and style. He sold for €7,200.

First prize winner MORHAN THEODORE – €7,000

Lot 1. The first bull into the ring was first prize winner MORHAN THEODORE from the Quilty, Co. Clare herd of Brian Moroney. Theodore commanded a selling price of €7,000. Twenty three month old Theodore is a son of Plumtree Fantastic and Mount Scott Marie 2 (Kilskeagh Jisop X Wilodge Cerberus). Theodore’s full brother, Morhan Peter, is a stock sire in the highly regarded Maraiscote herd in Scotland, one of his daughter’s was Interbreed Champion at both the Royal Highland and the Great Yorkshire show last year.

Fourth prize winner son CAVELANDS TOM BOY – €7,000

Lot 14. Well known Mayo breeder Paul Sykes presented three bulls at the sale, first into the ring was the fourth prize winning Plumtree Fantastic son CAVELANDS TOM BOY. Born in August 2022, Tom Boy’s dam has Bavardage and Mas Du Clo in her lineage. Multi-starred Tom Boy sold for €7,000.

Second prize winner GLENFORD TURBO – €7,000

Lot 27. Also realising €7,000 was second prize winner GLENFORD TURBO, from the Wicklow based herd of Kelly Stephenson. Turbo has Plumtree Fantastic, Sympa and Rathconville Eugene in his sire stack. Turbo holds five star ratings in Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter calving interval.

Third prize winner FAUGHILL TRIGGER – €6,800

Lot 56. FAUGHILL TRIGGER, a third prize winner sold for €6,800. Trigger was bred in Carrick-On-Shannon, Co. Leitrim by Charlie Clancy. Trigger has Lodge Hamlet, Wilodge Cerberus and Nunuphar in his lineage. Born in December 2022 Trigger has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation.

Junior Champion BALLYLINE U-10839 – €6,800

Lot 65. The Junior Champion title was awarded to BALLYLINE U-10839 from the herd of Bertie Mannion, Athlone, Co. Roscommon. U-10839, the youngest bull on offer, is a son of Mereside Godolphin and the Castleview Gazelle daughter Ballyline Maura. U-10839 has five star ratings in Terminal index, Carcass weight and Carcass conformation. The hammer fell at €6,800 for this striking 14 month old bull.

Lot 6. Second prize winner CRILLAUNE TORNADO realised €6,500. Tornado was bred by Patrick Kenny, Castlebar, Co Mayo. Tornado is a son of Mereside Godolphin and Crillaune Jamelia, a daughter of Ampertaine Elgin. Born in June 2022, this powerful bull has five star ratings in many traits.

Lot 19. KELTIC TROJANKING, a son of the outcross French sire Hector Gd changed hands for €6,400. Trojanking was bred by Teleri Thomas of Longwood, Co. Meath. His dam Keltic Elizabeth R is a daughter of Wilodge Vantastic. Trojanking came to the ring with an array of five star ratings including a Replacement score of €142 and a Terminal score of €172. Trojanking took the blue ribbon in his show class.

Reserve Senior Champion GERRYGULLINANE TYCOON ET – €6,200

Lot 17. Taking the plaudits of Reserve Senior Champion was the very impressive GERRYGULLINANE TYCOON ET from the Ballina, Co. Mayo based herd of Gerry Walsh. Tycoon is from a well proven line, his dam the Plumtree Fantastic daughter Missy is also the dam of Gerryguillane Phoneix, while his sire is the renowned Derrygullinane Kingbull. Multi-starred Tycoon sold for €6,200.

Lot 28. William Smith returned to the ring with his Third prize winner MILBROOK TEREVALE ET, a son of Kaprico Eravelle and the Lodge Hamlet daughter Milbrook Prettyspice Et, herself a daughter of the aforementioned Milbrook Ginger Spice. This September 2022 born bull has five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Docility, Carcass weight, Carcas conformation and Daughter milk. Terevale was snapped up by a pedigree breeder for €6,000.

First Prize winner PHILLIPS TRAFFORD – €6,000

Lot 54. The stylish First Prize winner PHILLIPS TRAFFORD also broached the €6,000 mark. Born in November 2022, Trafford is a steeped in homebred bull genetics, his sire Phillips Rebel (Ampertaine Elgin X Homebyres Amoot), while his dam Philips Karliona has Ampertaine Foreman and Ironstone Diego in her sire stack. His grand-dam Fairywater Gabriella stood as Reserve Champion at the Red Ladies Derby in 2013, following her success she went on the sell for 15,000 gns. Trafford was bred in Sligo by Michael Phillips, Gurteen.

Second prize winner CAVELANDS ULTAN – €6,000

Lot 63. Fifteen month old CAVELANDS ULTAN also realised €6,000 for his breeder Paul Sykes. Ultan is a son of Plumtree Fantastic and the homebred Bananier daughter Cavelands Lucy. Ultan caught the eye of the judge in the show ring where he placed second to the Junior champion. With five star ratings in almost all traits Ultan was the choice of a Cork based suckling enterprise.

Lot 26 and Lot 59. The Ruan herd of Sean Lyons, based in county Clare had a number of bulls on offer, two were sold for €5,800. First at this price was the Brooklands Marco son RUAN TOBIAS. This 19 month old bull claimed fourth prize in the show ring he holds an array of five star ratings. His stablemate who also sold for €5,800 is RUAN TERENCE 2, a son of Dovea Genetics – Ivantonov and the home bred dam Ruan Rebecca. Terence 2 has five star ratings in Replacement index, Terminal index, Carcass weight, and Carcass conformation.

Lot 9. The Tomschoice Lexicon son DROMANIG TOPSHOT realised €5,700. Topshot’s dam Cronrea Fiona 2 has Castleview Virulent and Imperial in her back pedigree. Topshot has five star ratings across the board, including a Replacement index of €224. Topshot was bred in Charleville, Co. Cork by Kieran Noonan.

Lot 55. The O’Grady family from Scariff, Co. Clare took home €5,700 for their blue rosetted bull MEENROSS TYSON. Multi-starred and with a Replacement index of €205, Tyson has Tomschoice Lexicon, Lodge Hamlet and Wilodge Vantastic in his sire stack. His dam Meenross Prospect enjoyed a successful show career as a young heifer culminating in a win at the National show in Tullamore.

Fourth Prize winner BALLYLINE U-70836 – €5,700

Lot 64. Fourth Prize winner BALLYLINE U-70836 also realised €5,700. U-70836 is a January 2023 born son of Tomschoice Lexicon and Ballyline Rula, a Mereside Godolphin daughter. U-70836 was bred by Bertie Mannion, Athlone, Co. Roscommon.

Lot 5. The Ewdenvale Ivor son WOODVIEW TAG changed hands for €5,500. Tag took third prize in his show class. Tag boasts five star ratings in many traits including Replacement index of €141 and a Terminal index of €147. Tag was bred by David and Steven Abbott of Killeshandra, Co. Cavan.

Lot 50. Patrick Mulconroy from Tulla, Co. Clare accepted €5,500 for his fourth prize winner MAGHERA TREVOR. Born in November 2022, Trevor has Ampertaine Majestic, Trueman Jagger and Ideal 23 in his sire stack. Trevor has five star ratings in Carcass weight, Carcass conformation and Daughter Milk.

Lot 47. Third prize winner TEMPLEQUAIN TUCKER sold for €5,400. Tucker was bred by Brendan O’Shea, Rathdowney, Co. Laois. He is the first born calf of the home bred Ampertaine Foreman daughter Templequain Rosie while his sire is the noted easy calving Vercors son Fuschia.

Lot 11. A dairy and Suckler farmer choose fourth prize winner MARLHILL TYLER. This shapey bull is a son of Ewdenvale Ivor, his dam Marlhill Neve has Castleview Casino and Woodview Gregory in her lineage. Tyler was bred by James Parkinson, Cashel, Co. Tipperary. The hammer fell at €5,300 for Tyler.

Lot 22. Patrick Sheahan, Drombanna, Co. Limerick sold DROMBANNY TURBO 2 for €5,300. Turbo 2 is an outcross pedigree, his sire Io has Ozeus and Bazar in his lineage, while his dam Drombanny Pixie is a daughter of Gstaad. Turbo 2 has an five star Terminal Index of €177 the highest in today’s sale, with five star ratings also in Carcass weight and Carcass conformation.

Lot 43. The fourth Prize winner CORLEA TOP GUN also sold for €5,300. Top Gun was bred by Thomas Connor, Kenagh, Co. Longford. Top Gun is a son of Erebos, his home bred dam Corlea Polly is by Lodge Hamlet. Top Gun has many five star ratings and is predicted to be very easy calving with a 1.9% calving difficulty.

Lot 52. MAGHERA THIAGO also sold for €5,300. Thiago has Ampertaine Metric, Tomschoice Ironstone and Haltcliffe Dancer in his sire stack. Thiago was bred by Patrick Mulconroy, Tulla, Co. Clare. He boasts many five star ratings including Daughter Milk at +6.3kgs.

Lot 21. TEMPLEQUAIN TROOPER was the pick for a Kilkenny based dairy herd. Multi-starred Trooper has Ampertaine Commander, Elite Forever Brill Et and Scorboro Regius in his sire stack. Trooper commanded a selling price of €5,100 for his breeder Brendan O’ Shea, Rathdowney.

Lot 24. Three bulls realised €5,000, first at this price was RUAN TYSON, a Brooklands Marco son from the herd of Sean Lyons, Co. Clare. Tyson has a Replacement index of €163 and a Terminal index of €154.

Lot 39. The third prize winner MEENROSS TINY DANCER ET also sold for €5,000. Tiny Dancer has Haltcliffe Dancer, Wilodge Vantastic and Malibu in his sire stack. Tiny Dancer was bred by James O’Grady, Scariff, Co. Clare.

Lot 44. The final bull to reach €5,000 was CORCAMORE TOPSY, a September 2022 born son of Mereside Godolphin and the Usted dam Thomastown Gretta. Topsy was bred by Brendan Curtin, Co. Limerick.

Lot 20. Third prize winner NEWTOWN TEDDY sold for €4,900. Teddy was presented by Noel Ruttledge, Ballina, Co. Mayo. Teddy is a son of Hector Gd and Newtown Red Berry an Ernevalley Madison Et daughter.

Lot 33. Heading to a dairy herd is GLENFORD TOPPER a son of Slieve Pablo and the Ampertaine Commander dam Glenford Puca. Topper was bred by Kelly Stephenson, Donard, Co. Wicklow. He sold for €4,900.

Lot 36. Also selling for €4,900 was the Jt son CORCAMORE TUCKER. This September 2022 born bull is predicted extremely easy calving at 0.7% on beef cows. Tucker has Virginia Andy (Et) and Ampertaine Commander in his back pedigree. He was bred by Brendan Curtin, Co. Limerick.

Lot 62. The first son of Brackan Ruben to come to auction was CAVELANDS TADY, from the Mayo based herd of Paul Sykes. Tady realised €4,800. His dam Cavelands Paula 2 has On-Dit and Ronick Hawk in her pedigree.

Lot 13. Multi-starred MARLHILL TROY fetched €4,700 for his breeder James Parkinson, Cashel, Co. Tipperary. Troy is a son of Ewdenvale Ivor.

Lot 57. €4,700 was top call for DROMBANNY TOPPER from the herd of Patrick Sheahan, Drombanna, Co. Limerick. Topper is a son of Hotel and the Cameos daughter Drombanny Rainbow. Topper came to the ring with an exceptional low 0.9% predicted calving difficulty on beef cows

Lot 61. The December 2022 born bull RUAN TOBIN sold for €4,600. Tobin was bred by Sean Lyons. His back pedigree includes Milan Marciano, Liscarn Johnny and Pelletstown Excel.

Lot 12. MARLHILL TUCKER sold for €4,500. Tucker is a son of Ewdenvale Ivor. He was bred by Jame Parkinson, Cashel, Co. Tipperary.

Lot 41. The Haled Mn son KELTIC TIGERFEET realised €4,200 for his breeder Teleri Thomas. Tigerfeet’s dam is Keltic Hassandra is an exceptional Terminal dam.

Lot 7. CARROWCLOGHER TYSON sold for €4,100. Tyson was bred by Sean Vahey, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Tyson’s dam Carrowclogher Lady Lucy Et is a daughter of Wilodge Cerberus.

Lot 42. €3,900 for CORLEA TEARDROP a son of Mistic Joop.

Lot 45. €3,900 for RUAN TUCKER a son of Milan Marciano.

Lot 32. €3,800 for MEENROSS TONKA ET a son of Wilodge Vantastic.

Lot 10. €3,600 for MARLHILL TIM a son of Ewdenvale Ivor.
