On Sunday the 29th of June, the South West Limousin Club held their annual YMA event incorporating team selection for the forthcoming National YMA Workshop (which is being held this Sunday the 6th July in Mountrath). The event was kindly hosted by the Roundhill herd of Tim, Doreen and Katie Corridan, Fedamore, Co. Limerick.
Proceedings commenced with a very informative demonstration by Doreen on the different points of an animal. This was followed by a comparison of two heifers.
The YMA judged a pin of four heifers and four bulls. They then went before the judges to explain their reasons for their placing’s, following on from this each competitor was given a young bull to show in the showing segment.
Master judge Rose Goulding announced the winners and gave them all valuable feedback. The South West team selected on the night was Eamon O’Donovan, Shanon Kinahan, Orla Curtin and Darren O’Regan.
In conclusion, Brendan Curtin SW club chairman expressed his gratitude to the Corridan family – great credit is due to them for making both their cattle and facilities available for the evening. He thanked Marie Louise Ryan for all her assistance and the two judges for the event - Rose Goulding and Michael Sheehan.
The evening proved to be very enjoyable and informative for both young and old alike. While the YMA were busy with the competition the adults enjoyed refreshments.
We would like to wish all the YMA the very best of luck in Mountrath on Sunday.
