Limousin reach the top at Easter Monday Tully Elite Sale
Limousin achieved the top three prices at the Elite bull sale at the Tully performance station in Tully on Easter Monday.
Top price on the day of €15000 went to Milbrook Filio bred by William and John Smith of Oldcastle Co Meath. The Smiths are celebrating 25 years of breeding Limousin cattle and what a fitting way to mark this milestone. Filio an embryo calf sired by the successful sire Sauvignon and by a homebred dam Kathryn with an impeccable pedigree including Broadmeadows Cannon , Talent and Milbrook Freda.
With a SBV of €144 and a good balance in the different traits combined with being tbe breed Champion of the test this extremely stylish bull had created much pre sale interest and indeed he didn’t disappoint when in the ring.Bidding was steady with a few customers in the race up to €10000 however it was down to two customers and eventually Filio was purchased by Northern Ireland breeder Mr Gerry Moane, Co. Fermanagh.

Next highest price on the day of €7000 went to another renowned long time breeder Ray Carolan, Cavan Co Cavan with Carwin Figgero. Bred from Ray’s herd sire Roundhill Saturn who is by Ideal 23 and has Geannt on his dam’s side. By a homebred dam Carwin Ruth with Talent and Milbrook Handsome in the pedigree Figgero combined style with a high star rating in all traits. Once again bidding was brisk and eventually Figgero was knocked down to Peter McCarrick for his renowned Pelletstown herd in Drumree.

In at the next highest price was another breeder needing no introduction to success in the show or sales ring Michael Sexton Aheybridge, Mullagh Co Clare with Mount Scott Erney. By the highly influential Ronick Hawk and Mount Scott Rita a home bred dam by Michael’s high profile herd sire Gamin Erney carried a SBV 93 with a 5 star rating in Weanling Export, Beef Carcass and Docility. Once again there was plenty of interest in this bull and he was sold for € 6100 to Joel Richardson, Portadown.

Following on from last year’s success at the similiar sale Rosaleen Clarke Bailieborough Co Cavan saw her ET Ronick Hawk son Shancrock Fortune from the Dauphin sired dam Obole selling for €4800 .
In total 20 Limousin bulls traded at an average price of €3850
