The long journey from Cardonagh Co Donegal paid off for breeder Mr John Green when he saw his December 09 born bull selling for the top price of €8200. Having stood Reserve Junior male champion earlier in the pre sale show this Wilodge Tonka son bred from the Meridien dam Greenhill Unique Et and with a 5 star Suckler Beef Value of €111 had many admirers and met a flurry of bids before eventually being purchased by Mr Colin Watts, Pytindu Farm, Llanddew, Brecon, Wales for his commercial herd.
Breed secretary Paul Sykes quoting “even though we saw no 5 figure sums paid trade was very steady. The most encouraging factors were a clearance rate of 80% with an average of €3108 and over 20% of the animals entered making in excess of € 4000. With a renewed interest in the breed and considering once again the strong demand from both Northern Ireland and UK which saw 15 animals exported, home buyers were also to the fore and willing to invest in quality. Likewise in the female section we saw a clearance rate of 73% with an average of €3042, buyers are selective but as always willing to pay for quality”
Mr Stanley Richardson from Newtowngore Co Leitrim saw his Ampertaine Abracadbra sired Newtown Escort Et selling for the second highest price in the male section at €4800.By Newtown Clodagh ET a dam with back breeding which included both Cloughead Lord and Ideal 23 and having stood 1st in his class under judge Mr Jim Quail of the well known Lynderg herd in Banbridge Co Down, Escort who has a 5 star Suckler Beef Value of €118 and a high star rating in most traits heads to Northern Ireland.

In at €4600 was another Ampertaine Abracababra son Moloskey Ebay ET from Mr Brendan Clancy Mullagh Co Clare. Ebay who had won his class at the National show in Tullamore in 2010 and was also a prize winner in the pre sale show is by Moloskey Caroline . With a pedigree combining Sympa, Pelletstown Newman, Geannt along with a 5 Star SBV of €117 Ebay also met a strong trade before being sold to Mr John English Ballinasloe Co Galway.
Trading at €4400,Mr Gerry Walsh from Ballina Co Mayo saw his 2nd prize Crillaune Ed Ric heading for Lanarkshire, Scotland to Mr Ron Cruickshank for his successful Kype herd. Sired by Fieldson Alfy and the Grahams Samson dam Clooney Quinn Arlene Ed Ric has a 5 star SBV of €133.
Mr Mac Murphy of Enfield Co Meath also saw his Keltic Emeraldking selling at €4400 to Mr Noel Jennings, Hollymount, Co Mayo. This much admired bull by the popular Wilodge Vantastic and the Greenwell Major dam Cwmpedran Tigerroyal and who had won the best young bull in the North East Club herd competition had a 5 star SBV of €119.
Selling at €4200 was Hill Top Evander ET from Mr Thomas Murphy Mullagh Co Clare. This stylish 1st prize Milou – Mn son is by Reserpine a Moero dam.With a 4star SBV €54 and a muscle score of 120 Evander is heading to Mr W Shennan North Thacave Farm Tuanbeaay Ayrshire.

Also selling at €4200 was Drummin Eduardo ET from the Drummin herd of John McInerney Newmarket On Fergus Co Clare.Eduardo who had won his class at the Beef Expo 2010 and been a 2nd prize winner in the presale show is by Fieldson Alfy and the Lino dam Moneygold Billie. With a 5 star SBV €117 Eduardo heads to Mr John Fitzparick, Bruff, Co Limerick.
Mr Thomas Murphy was back in again selling his other 1st prize and Senior Champion bull Hill Top Eros at €4100. From the ever popular sire Ronick Hawk combining Broadmeadows Cannon and Talent and the Navarin dam Clounlaheen Ann, Eros has a 4 star SBV €86 and will join his stable mate at Mr William Shennan Ayrshire.

Another bull to change hands at €4100 was Kilcara Eanna from Messrs Patricia & Jos Waldron Tuam Co Galway.This powerful Milbrook Tanko son from the Navarin dam Kilcara Bonni boasted a 5 star SBV €147 and heads to Mr Barney o Sullivan Dunlavin.
Three bulls traded at €4000, Lanmore Eddie a Mas Du Clo son from Mr Richard Duffy Westport by the Rocky dam Lanmore Vanessa . Eddie who has a 5 star SBV €117 was purchased by Mr Patrick Kennedy, Athenry Co Galway.
Mr Joseph Lynch Virginia Co Cavan sold Stamatt Eddie a Neuf son by the Grahams Unbeatable dam Stramatt Cassanora. Eddie with a 5 star SBV €128 was purchased by Mr Patrick Hogan Kinvarra Co Galway.
Finally at €4000 Mr Joe Moran Tourmakeady Co Mayo saw Cappaduff Epic selling to Messrs Conor & Enda Ryan Borrisleigh Co Tipperary. Epic who is by a Mas Du Clo dam Cappaduff Abbey had been shown successfully during the summer being crowned North West Calf Champion and North West Male of the Year boasted a 5 star SBV €132
Mrs Margaret Henson Kilbeggan Co Westmeath saw her Reserve Senior Champion Cappahugh Esker selling to Mr Laurence Weeks Kilmallock Co Limerick for €3600.This Limo Tanat son by the Mas Du Clo dam Clegghill Valerie has a 5 star SBV €102.
The Junior Male Champion Drummin Freddie was from Mr John McInerney Newmarket On Fergus, sired by the successful Sympa and the Mas du Clo dam Drummin Veronica who herself had been the Beef Expo Limousin Champion in 2008. Freddie won his All Ireland class at Beef Expo 2010 and has a 5 star SBV €176 failed to meet his reserve on the day.
In the female section choice females met a strong trade
Top price on the day went to Mr Daniel Tynan Beechhill Farm Mountrath Co Laois for Ardlea El. Having been a prize winner in the pre sale show on the Sunday evening El who is by Sympa and the Nelson dam F039 Sequoia boasted a 5 star SBV €163 . This stylish heifer met a strong trade before being sold at €5150 to Mr Martin Doherty Carndonagh Co Donegal for his well known Liss herd.
Doonbeg Elegance from Mr Declan Griffin Doonbeg Co Clare sold for €4000. With a very interesting pedigree including Ronick Hawk and Mas Du Clo and a 5 star SBV €120 Elegance heads for Maghera Co Down to Mr Laurence McEldowney
Moloskey Edya the Female Champion from Mr Brendan Clancy Mullagh Co Clare sold to Mr David Holden Co Kilkenny for € 3900. Edya with a 5 star SBV €102 combines two successful sires Rocky and Gamin.
The Reserve Female Champion Cloonagh Eldorado from Mr Gareth Behan Ballyfin Portlaoise combining both Milbrook Tanko and the Navarin dam Cloneygowan Becky, this powerful heifer failed to meet her reserve.
Mr Seamus Cullen Newtownmountkennedy Co Wicklow saw his Ardlea Ben daughter Ballinahinch Ella selling at €3500 to Mr Patrick Jordan Co Armagh. Ella is by the Ardnacrusha Philip and has a 5 star SBV €149.
Mr Cullen saw his other entry Ballyknockin Dettol also selling to the same buyer at €3000. Dettol who is by the Jersey son Olivier and a Highlander dam Offense has a SBV €67
Ardlea Fallon from Mr Daniel Tynan Mountrath sold at €3100 to Mr Kieran Casey Kilydysart Co Clare. Once again by the high profile sire Sympa and the Bremore Volvo daughter Elite Carey Fallon sold with a 5 star SBV €116.
Millburn Erin from Mr Richard O Beirne Tuam Co Galway sold for €3000 to Mr Tom Larkin Kilbeggan Co Westmeath. Erin by the well known sire Milbrook Tanko and the Litron dam Kilcoan Sarah sold with a SBV €78.
The same buyer was back in again at the same price for another of Mr O Beirne’s entries Milburn Eleanor. This time by the sucessful UK sire Fieldson Alfy and by the Ferry dam Moyhill Trudy Eleanor has a 5 star SBV €115
Mr O Beirne also put forward the 1st prize winning female Millburn Ebony. Once again by Milbrook Tanko and by a French dam 0136 this powerful heifer boasting a 5 star SBV €116 failed to meet her reserve.
