Limousin Society Premier Heifer Sale - Saturday 28th April 2012. Eighty percent clearance with average up €1202.

The first of the 2012 Irish Limousin Cattle Society’s Premier Heifer sales held at Roscrea Livestock Mart on Saturday last 28th April saw a strong trade resulting in an 80% clearance with an average price of €3988, up €1202 on the previous November Heifer sale at the same venue and a price range from €2600 to €6000.

Both existing breeders and new entrants competed to invest in the breed which saw 13 of the lots selling for €4000 or more.

Well known County Donegal breeder John Green, Carndonagh saw his six hour journey well rewarded when he saw his Acajou sired Greenhill Fiona Et claiming the top price of the sale at €6000. Having being placed 1srt in her class, Fiona who is by a home bred dam Greenhill Ursula Et, herself by the French sire Meridien, sold with a 5 star SBV of €108. Fiona who had been served to Ampertaine Commander was purchased by George Mulligan, Clonbologue, Tullamore, Co. Offaly.

Selling at €5500 was Drummin Flower Rose from John McInerney, Newmarket On Fergus, Co. Clare. By the ever dominant sire Sympa and a homebred dam Drummin Dawn ET, who herself is by the very successful dam Drummin Peach, Rose came to the ring boasting a 5 star SBV of €140. Rose heads to County Meath to join the Kells based pedigree herd of Niall Daly.

Also selling at €5500 was Elite Farr Et from Edward Tynan, Mountrath, Co. Laois. This Ampertaine Commander sired daughter and by one of the herds prolific dams Ardlea Coillte, sold with a 5 star SBV of €107. Farr was purchased by multiple purchaser on the day John Meehan, Newmarket On Fergus, Co. Clare.

Newtowngore, Co. Leitrim based breeder Stanley Richardson received €5400 for Newtown Grace from another multiple purchaser R. Skerritt, Newry, Co. Down. By Ampertaine Abracadabra and the Milbrook Tanko dam Newtown Deborah, Grace who sold with a 5 star SBV of €91 had been placed Reserve Female Champion earlier in the day by the pre-sale judge Mr. Henry Savage Jnr of the Trueman herd based in Newry, Co. Down.

The Champion on the day Ardlea Girly from Daniel Tynan, Mountrath, Co. Laois sold at €5000. By one of the Ardlea herd sires Elite Abel Et and by the Lino sired dam 0189 Pepita, Girly who had a 5 star SBV of €120 was snapped up by John Meehan, Newmarket On Fergus.

Ciaran Bogue, Belturbet, Co. Cavan saw his Ronick Hawk sired entry Stragheglin Francis selling at €4900 to R. Skerritt, Co. Down. By the Rocky dam Rathnestin Donna, Francis sold with a 5 star SBV of €94.

Edward Tynan, Mountrath, Co. Laois received €4700 for Elite Fantago Et. This daughter of Tistou and by the Ferry sired dam Ardlea S227 had a 5 star SBV of €115 and heads to County Mayo to Michael Rattigan, Irishtown.

Wood Road Emma Et, a daughter of Sympa from the herd of Noel Fennessy sold at €4600 to Patrick Cleary, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. Emma who is by the Festin sired dam Ardnacrusha Violet Et sold with a 3 star SBV of €63.

Tom O’Shea received €4400 for Templequain Fifi, a Milbrook Dartangan sired daughter. By the On-Dit daughter Templequain Catherine, Fifi who had a 5 star SBV of €123 and had high ratings in most traits heads to the herd of Brian McInerney, Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare.

Four animals changed hands at €4000, Gary Morrissey, Grangeford, Co. Carlow sold Grangeford Fabienne Et to Michael Fennessy for his Ballyduff based herd in County Waterford. This daughter of Grahams Samson and by the dam Wood Road Ann Et who has a back pedigree combining Mas Du Clo and Ov Nadia B, came to the ring with a 5 star SBV of €117.

Also changing hands at €4000 was Baileys Georgeous from Thomas Bailey, Batterstown, Co. Meath. By the high profile Baileys herd sire Queenshead Altea and a home bred dam Baileys Violette, Georgeous who had a 5 star SBV of €114 sold to Eamon Duffy, Clones, Co. Monaghan.

Selling at €4000 was Ardlea Girelle, a Tistou daughter from Daniel Tynan, Mountrath, Co. Laois. Girelle who is by the Gwenole sired dam F039 Sibylle came to the ring with a 5 star SBV of €139 and heads to the pedigree herd of Ger Fenlon, Newtown-Borris, Co. Carlow.

The final heifer to sell at €4000 was Newtown Glamour from Stanley Richardson, Newtowngore, Co. Leitrim. Glamour who had a pedigree combining her sire Ampertaine Commander and her dam Newtown Cacie, who herself is by Cloughhead Lord and the high profile Casteview Rub, sold with a 2 star SBV of €60. Glamour joins the pedigree herd of Patrick Fennessy, Ballyduff, Co. Waterford.
