The Roscommon Society Sale took place on Saturday 16th May 2009. The pre sale show was judged by Martin Mc Cullagh from Navan, Co. Meath.

Topping the days trade at €3,300 was Reserve Junior Champion, “Aloor Duncan” from the herd of Patsy Creighton, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon. This homebred bull was born in March 2008 by Ferry and out a homebred dam Aloor Tulipe by Genial. He was purchased by the Brooklands Pedigree Herd.

Following on from this were two first prize winning bulls both selling at €2,900. The first of these through the ring came from Michael Sexton, Mullagh, Ennis, Co. Clare for “Mount Scott Danny” by Cloughhead Lord. This 5 star bull was born in January 2008 and out of homebred dam, Mount Scott Utv by Mas Du Clo. He was purchased by fellow Clare man, Joseph Hannon, Newmarket on Fergus.

The next bull selling at €2,900 was Junior Champion, “Green Hill Dextor” from Mary Mc Loughlin, Ballina, Co. Mayo. This March 2008 bull was by Millbrook Tanko out of Lough Conn Virgilia by Otan. He was purchased by Austin Gibbons, Westport, Co. Mayo.

Next best call went to a 2nd prize winner “Carwin Charmer” from Raymond Carolan, Cavan selling for €2,500 to Evelyn Keane, Ballymore, Co. Westmeath. This December 2007 born bull was by Cloughhead Lord out of a homebred dam Carwin Joy by Grange Balerno.

Other notable prices included:

  • €2,100 to Geraldine Tierney, Cloone, Co. Leitrim for “Tierney Casper” by Rubis.
  • €2,100 to Sean Garrett, Ballycastle, Co. Mayo for “”Ammaghmore Duke” by Lino.
  • €2,000 to Thomas Feehan, Westport, Co. Mayo for “Cross Colm” by Ushuaia.
  • €2,000 to Philip Crowe, Ballinagh, Co. Cavan for “Honeylodge Cannon” by Haltcliffe Hercules.
  • €2,000 to Stanley Richardson, Newtowngore, Co. Leitrim for “Gortermone Cannon” by Cloughhead Lord.
  • €2,000 to William Stoddart, Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim for “Drumhaldry Deane” by Castleview Uland.
  • €2,000 to Martin Killeen, Mullagh, Co. Clare for “Springvalley D 668” by Millbrook Tanko.
