Clare Club Suckler Information Evening Sixmilebridge Mart

Six Mile Bridge attendanceThe very well attended Suckler Information Evening held at Sixmilebridge Mart was very informative with helpful tips on beef breeding, market requirements and fodder management. In addition there was an excellent display of pedigree Limousin cattle from local breeders and the commercial cattle on hand demonstrated how the breed delivers profit at farm level. Cork Limousin Club - 2012

2012 has been another successful year for the Cork Limousin Club. We held 3 club meetings with an average attendance of 36 people. Guest speakers included Francis Kearney from the ICF. At this year’s AGM the following the following officers were elected;

North West Club Report 2012

We am pleased to report that the North West Club had another successful year. We held our AGM on the 10th of January 2012 and the following officers were elected

Donegal Report 2012

The Donegal Limousin Club continued to develop during the year, the club was well represented at shows and sales. Established members John Greene and Martin Doherty were again in prominence at sales however they were well backed up by some newer breeders. New breeder Martin Sean Donagher’s Ulm Bull won its class and sold well at the society sale in Athenry, this was Martins first society sale. Read more >>>

Roscrea Commercial Heifer Sale 29th September 2012

The annual commercial breeding heifer sale which was held last Saturday 29th October  at Roscrea mart Co Tipperary saw a very strong trade with prices well up on the previous year and some very notable prices paid for quality lots. The sale which is on a pre selected basis is organised by Alfie Percy from the South East Limousin club and Noel O’Grady from Roscrea mart. Read more >>>






South West Limousin Club Calf Finals

The South West Limousin Club held a joint event with Teagasc in Kilmallock mart on Friday evening 31st August 2012. The theme of the event was “Suitable bulls for changing markets: How to improve your herd and increase profits” which attracted a crowd of over 200 interested spectators. The packed agenda included an introduction to the New ICBF indexes, Animal cuts and value of same, the Derrypatrick suckler Herd, Commercial display, a stock Judging competition and our club Calf Championship. South East Limousin Club Calf Finals and Open Day at Cillin Hill, Kilkenny Sunday 26th August 2012.

A very well organised event and friendly atmosphere saw a steady attendance all afternoon at the SE Limousin Calf  Finals and Open Day kindly hosted by Cillin Hill. There was a fine display of both haltered and unhaltered pedigree Limousin. Also on view was a display of crossbred heifers and bulls. Read more >>>

July 2011: Brid Cronin Field Evening

The Cork Limousin club held an open evening on Saturday 25th July on the farm of Brid Cronin, Powerstown Mallow Co Cork.

Brid’s father Michael was the inspiration in the founding of the Powerstown herd, a man of great vision his first introduction to the Limousin breed was in 1984 when he bought a Limousin bull Canovee Ulick from Mr Dick Collins. Ulick who was a son of Phoenix Ludovic with backbreeding to the renowned sire Hervin was put with the Cronin dairy herd of 70 cows. Read more >>>

South West Limousin Club Field evening

The club calf finals of the South West Limousin club for 2011 were held in Castleisland Mart on Saturday the 10th of September. The finals were held as part of a field evening which incorporated a progeny display, stock judging, a young members event and the Calf championship. Judge for the evening was Justin McCarthy. Schillaci ties the knot! James n Deirdre

Following in the footsteps of Robbie Williams and Michael Bublé, James (Schillaci) Wycherley, considered by many, Irish Limousin’s most eligible bachelor has taken the plunge. James married Deirdre Hennessy from Glenville Co. Cork on Saturday November 19. The Cork Limousin club together with the Irish Limousin Cattle Society would like to wish James and Deirdre best wishes and a long life of health and happiness.






Cappamore Show 2011

August 20th saw the 57th running of the Annual Cappamore Show. This was the first time in the history of the show that it was held on a Saturday. The sun shone as crowds swelled the Portnard venue. Read more >>>







The North West Calf Finals were hosted by Swinford Agricultural Show on Saturday 20th August. This annual event which rotates throughout the club area saw a large entry of calves forward. The competition consisted of six classes, three classes of bulls and three classes of heifers, with the six 1st prize winners competing for an Overall Champion. The winner of the Overall Championship being awarded with a new trophy The Michael Dale Perpetual Cup presented by the club in memory of Michael Dale who had been a great stalwart of the North West Club and who had promoted both the breed and the club throughout the province and country along with representing the North West Club at Council level. With 35 calves entered in there was no doubt that breeders were anxious to be the first recipient of such a coveted award. Read more >>>







Tinahely Show, Co Wicklow which is one of the Premier shows in Ireland   was the venue for the 2011 North East Calf Finals. The North East club which has a large number of  breeders has always viewed their calf finals as one of the main events of the year and has always been well supported. Read more >>>






57th  annual Cappamore Show this Saturday August 20th

All roads lead to Portnard, Cappamore on Saturday August 20th for the 57th annual Cappamore show. There is a big entry of Limousins with a total of 7 classes. Kicking off the show will be one of two interbreed calf classes which will determine the overall calf champion.  A YMA event will take place for young members from the South West club at approx 2.30.   

This is the first year the show will take place on a Saturday and a big crowd is expected to attend what is always a very popular show. Cappamore show is always a great day out for all the family.






Clare Limousin Club Field Evening – Ennis Mart, 12th August 2011

County Clare is synonymous with Limousin breeding in Ireland. The County has the largest number of Pedigree Breeders in the country and this was clearly in evidence as Pedigree and Commercial Farmers displayed almost 70 animals in Ennis Mart on Friday 12th August. We saw excellent examples of Progeny from many Limousin AI sires as well as Progeny of Stock Bulls who are clearly doing a very good job on commercial and pedigree farms throughout the county. All animals displayed on the night also had their ICBF Euro Star evaluations displayed with many people commenting on both the visual quality and high genetic merit of the animals. The Cork Limousin club hosted another successful YMA class at Barryroe show on Saturday 9th July. The first of our two annual YMA events, once again proved very popular among the club’s youngest members. This years event was made all the more appealing thanks to generous sponsorship provided by the Irish Limousin Cattle Society and A total of 8 youngsters paraded their cattle under the scrutiny of well known breeder and National YMA coordinator Michael Gunn. Cork Club Farm Walk

Cork Club Limousin Farm Walk July 2011

Over 400 farmers attended the hugely successful field evening held on Tuesday July 19th on the farm of Margaret and Dermot Lehane and family at Dromcummer, Kanturk, Co. Cork. The glorious sun shine made for not alone a very informative evening but an enjoyable one also. The event was ably chaired by local Teagasc adviser James Fleming, who fielded contributions from herd owner Margaret Lehane, guest speakers; NCBC beef programme manager Rosalish Goulding and Teagasc Beef Specialist Pearse Kelly, and questions from the crowd. The productivity of Limousin genetics when married with precision management was very evident to all present.  Read more >>>

North West Club YMA 2011

The North west Limousin club YMA competition will take place in Ballina show on Sunday July 10th. The Young Members Association (YMA ) is open to everybody between 12 and 25 and tests and improves their knowledge of cattle and showmanship. Further details to follow

North West Club - Swinford Show

The 2011 North West club calf championship will be held in Swinford show on Saturday August 20th. The classes are for calves born on or after the 21st of August 2010. When the entries are received the classes will be divided into six sections with three classes for bull calves and three for heifer calves based on their date of births. Prize money will be €75, €50, and €25 for each class. This year the champion calf picked from the six winners will be awarded the Michael Dale memorial Cup. Michael was a great Limousin supporter and worked tirelessly for the breed before his untimely death in 2010.

The North West club area covers the counties Mayo, Sligo, Galway and Roscommon. To be eligible for the calf championships the calf must exhibitor bred and the owner must have a herd number in the club area. The classes are very well supported each year with over 30 calves on show in 2010.

South East Limousin Club Kilkenny Multibreed Sale April 2011:

Trade was slower at the April Kilkenny Agricultural Society Bull Sale when compared to the previous March sale, although there was a great clearance with 24 bulls sold out of 27 bulls offered, with the showing classes kindly judged by Ms. Teleri Thomas.  Read more >>>

South East Club Calf Championships 2010

On the 2nd August 2010, the South East Club held our calf finals at Tinahely Agricultural Show. It was a huge success for our exhibitors especially with such a large number of entries in each class on the day. It was obvious from the number of spectators throughout the day that there is a great level of interest in such classes. Read more >>>

Over the course of the year we held 3 meetings. At our first meeting our guest speaker was Andrew Cromie from ICBF who gave an informative presentation on BLUPS, Docility and the Suckler Welfare Scheme. Our second meeting was held in June where we had two guest speakers Paul Sykes and John McInerney. There were numerous topics discussed on the night from ICBF, Animal Health and the Society Premier Sales. At our third meeting we held a general discussion. Read more >>>

North East Limousin Calf Finals 2010:

Oldcastle show in county Meath was the venue for the 2010 North East Calf Finals on Sunday 26th September. The judge for this event was Ian Nimmo owner of the Maraiscote herd  in North Lanarkshire. Mr Nimmo  a  successful  breeder in both the  show and sales ring is the owner of the Highland show winning sire Virginia Andy,  a bull that he who had  purchased from local breeder Leo McEnroe. Positive start to Cork Limousin Club first autumn commercial heifer sale!

Following on from their successful commercially focussed field evening on the farm of Michael J. O’Regan, Skibbereen, in July, Monday October 18 saw the Cork Limousin Club host their first ever commercial breeding heifer autumn sale. The sale was held in conjunction with Cork Co-op Marts in Bandon. Considered a bold move, to hold a Limousin heifer sale in the heart of dairy country, the sale was a success. Satisfaction with the heifers presented was expressed by discerning local suckler farmers who competed strongly for the quality lots on offer.  Read more >>>




North West Club Limousin Open Day on the farm of Tom Feehan Cross Kilmeena Westport Co. Mayo on Sunday October 3rd at 2pm

On Sunday 3rd October the North West Limousin Club held an open day on the farm of Tom & Marion Feehan Cross, Kilmeena ,Westport ,Co Mayo.

The Cross herd which is over shadowed by the famous Croagh Patrick mountain was founded in 1990. Tom & Marion decided from the start that this herd was going to be based on quality. In the early years a number of breeding females were purchased at sales throughout the country and then a very strict breeding programme of only using the top AI sires was implemented. North East Limousin Calf Finals launch:

Members of the North East Limousin Club recently photographed at the launch of their calf finals with Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and food, Mr. Brendan Smith TD. The calf finals will take place on Sunday 26th September at Oldcastle Show, Co. Meath. This will see 4 calf classes take place, 2 for males and females born between 1st September 2009 and 31st December 2009 and 2 for calves born in 2010.

Limerick Show 2010:

After the busy day at Cappamore show it was on to Limerick Racecourse in Greenmount Park, Patrickswell for Limerick Show. The show which runs for two days - confined the cattle showing to Sunday. There was a large turnout of cattle from near and far for the many classes with a number of All Ireland championships, which had big entries and very good prize money on offer. Read more >>>




Cappamore Show 2010:

The 56th Annual Agricultural show in Cappamore was held on Wednesday 18th August 2010. The show is very popular by exhibitors of all breeds, with cattle travelling from near and far to compete in its many prestigious classes. This year the show (along with its usual classes) had the honour of hosting the All Ireland Limousin Heifer and Bull Derby. Read more >>>




South West Limousin Club Field Evening Castleisland Mart July 2010:

The South West Limousin club held a very successful field evening in Castleisland Mart on Saturday 31st of July. The main attraction of the field evening was the club calf championship, with in excess of forty calves on display.

Despite the inclement weather a large crowd attended the commercially focussed open evening hosted by the O’Regan family in Skibereen in conjunction with Cork Limousin Club on Friday July 9th. North West Limousin Club Calf Finals 2010:

Enniscrone Show Co Sligo on Saturday 28th August will host the Northwest club calf championships. There will be six classes, three male and three female for calves born after the 1/9/2009. The calves will be divided into equal classes after the entries have been received. This competition is one of the highlights of the showing season in Connacht and has attracted over thirty entries in previous years. Read more >>>

Cork Club Open Evening:

This Friday 9th July the Cork Limousin Club are holding an open evening on the farm of Michael F O Regan Skibereen commencing at 6 pm. This is a very successful herd producing top quality weanlings for the export market.

Guest speakers will include Mr Richard Hartnett Manager of Castleisland Livestock mart and Teagasc research staff. An evening not to miss




Clare Club - Doonbeg Andrew sired top price Brontemoor Dr Doolittle at Skipton Market:

At the recent reduction sale of the Brontemoor Limousin herd held in Skipton mart the top price of £3500 went to Brontemoor Dr Doolittle sired by Doonbeg Andrew. Doonbeg Andrew a Rocky son was bred by Declan Griffin Doonbeg Co Clare and was purchased by Mr Priesley at a Roscrea Premier sale. He is a son of Rocky and out of our homebred dam Doonbeg Patsy. The North West Limousin Club held its AGM in January and its outgoing officers were re elected with Tom Finnerty remaining as Chair and Michael Fox as Secretary. Tom Walsh is still in charge of the purse strings while Michael Gunn is PRO and travel officer. Donie McKeon and Pat Bruen are now the YMA coordinators.  Read more >>>
