International Limousin Congress 2016 Elite Sale

The Irish Limousin Cattle Society held an Elite Sale at The Hub, Cillin Hill, Co. Kilkenny as the conclusive cattle event to the hugely successful International Limousin Congress 2016. The sale was held on Saturday 27th August with a starting time of 2pm. Performing the auctioneer duties from this weekly podium was Mr. George Candler, while the societies other auctioneer acted as tic tac. A pedigree entry of 36 cattle was bolstered with the addition of some prize winners from the previous day’s commercial show.

The sale itself met with some terrific prices, however, other sellers were not willing to part until their reserves were met. Animals were acquired by Irish, UK and German purchasers. The Irish Limousin Cattle Society would like to wish all purchasers the very best of luck with their new livestock.

Two of the ILC2016 host farms enjoyed great success at this sale with the McInerney family taking home €26,700 for two homebred heifers. The Ardlea Elite herd also sold some of their tremendous stock with a top call of €13,500.

Topping the sale was multi award winning “Drummin J-Lo ET” from the yard of John McInerney. J-Lo is a September 2014 born daughter of Wilodge Vantastic and the legendary donor dam Drummin Cliona ET. The McInerney’s farm had played host earlier in the week to the ILC, visitors to the farm were in awe of the quality of stock produced by the Drummin herd. Following a flurry of bids the hammer fell at €16,200, Michael McNally, Cookstown, Co. Tyrone was the successful purchaser, J-Lo now becomes part of Michae

Drummin J-Lo ET

Changing hands and finding a new home in Kilkenny was “Elite Hostess ET” from the herd of Dan Tynan, Beechhill Farm, Mountrath, Co. Laois. Hostess came to the ring with her March 2016 born son “Ardlea Laois”. The pair were acquired by Noel Brennan of the Whitehall herd based in Paulstown, Co. Kilkenny. Hostess is out of the tremendous donor cow Ardlea Coillte, she is a full sister to the noted AI sire Elite Forever Brill ET (TVR), her full sister Elite Forever Free ET and Elite Forever 1, are household names. She is also a maternal sister to the AI sire Elite Flag ET (EFZ). With much interest in this pair, bidding rose steadily until a selling price of €13,500 was agreed upon. Visitors to the Ardlea Elite herds on Tuesday the 23rd August saw for themselves the legacy Ardlea Coillte left in the herds.


Elite Hostess ET

The Drummin herd returned to the ring with “Drummin Kailee ET” a full sister of J-Lo. Born in January 2015 Kailee has to-date enjoyed many show successes. She boasts a muscle score of 138 and a skeletal score of 133. Kailee was purchased by Tommy O’Harte, Clones, Co. Monaghan for €10,500. Tommy is steadily building a new herd, he has acquired some impressive genetics both in Ireland and the UK.

County Westmeath based breeders A. & P. Kelly, Moate sold their heifer “Killcastle Kathlyn” for €8,600. Kathlyn had taken the Reserve Intermediate title at the National Show. Kathlyn is an April 2015 born daughter of Elite Forever Brill ET (TVR) and the Sympa daughter Killcastle Faith ET. She was purchased by Mark Phillips on behalf of a UK customer.

County Clare breeder Darragh O’Meara, Ardnacrusha put forward “Hurricane Kayla” a September 2015 born heifer for sale. Kayla is a daughter of Ampertaine Foreman (S1421) and the homebred Ideal 23 dam Hurricane Heidi ET. At just 11 months old she has a substantial show record winning many first prizes and interbreed championships. At just 11 months old this outstanding heifer was procured by Stephen Illingworth, Lockerbie, Scotland for this noted Glenrock herd.


Hurricane Kayla

A maiden heifer “Elite Jenny ET” from the herd of Dan Tynan was snapped up for €7,500. Jenny is a daughter of Ampertaine Elgin (S1495) and Clonmack Fleur. She came to the ring with a muscle score of 141 and a skeletal score of 120. Aileen Ritchie, Burnside, Aberdeenshire was the successful purchaser of Jenny for her herd.

“Elite Kelda ET” an 11 month old heifer sold at €6500 to the Greeve pedigree herd of Noel and John Smyth, Mountnugent, Co. Cavan. Kelda is a daughter of Aultside Hulk (LM2133), herd sire to Ardlea Elite Limousins, and Carwin Hillery, a Coppertop Frankie daughter. Kelda has five star ratings in most traits coupled with a muscle score of 123.

Six thousand euros was top call for “Baileys Kenni” from the herd of Tom Bailey, Batterstown, Co. Meath. Kenni is a daughter of Baileys Darwin and Baileys Eibhlin, a Queenshead Altea daughter. Her sire Baileys Darwin is also sire to the renowned Baileys Iceprincess – two time All Ireland Champion. Kenni was purchased by Kelly Stephenson, Donard, Co. Wicklow.

Two heifers from the Elite herd were secured by Rinderproduktion, Blankenburg, Germany for €5,000 each. Elite Kala ET, a Wilodge Vantastic (VTI) daughter was acquired at the sale, while the other heifer was purchased off farm.

John Kenny, Dunkerrin, Birr, Co. Offaly sold “Carrefour Jessica” an Elite Popsi ET daughter for €4,200 to George McCague, Newry, Co. Down. Jessica came to the ring with a muscle score of 129 and a skeletal score of 126. She is from an influential cow family in the Carrefour herd.

The in-calf heifer “Keltic Imperialqueen” from Teleri Thomas, Enfield, Co. Meath sold for €4,100. Imperialqueen has Acajou, Ronick Hawk and Greenwell Major in her pedigree. She is due to calf in September to Keltic Handsome (OKH). Bill Duff of Ballynalick, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary was the successful bidder for Imperialqueen.


KIllcastle Kathlyn

“Mount Scott Jamario” was the only bull to find a new home. Jamario has Ampertaine Elgin, Wilodge Cerberus and Milou-Mn in his lineage. He has a muscle score of 134 and a skeletal score of 124. Jamario was bred in county Clare by Michael Sexton, Aheybridge, Mullagh and was purchased by an undisclosed UK buyer.

Michael Sexton also received €4,000 for “Mount Scott Kaitlyn” a daughter of Wilodge Cerberus (WGE) and the Samy daughter Mount Scott Florry. Kaitlyn was born in September 2015, she has five star ratings in most traits. She was acquired by local man Martin Ryan, Castlecomer.

“Annaghanne Keeper ET” a stylish April 2015 born Wilodge Vantastic (VTI) daughter sold for €3,100. Keeper was bred by Declan McCaffrey, Scotshouse, Co. Monaghan. She has a muscle score of 132 and a skeletal score of 130. John O’Reilly, Rathmoyle, Co. Kilkenny was the successful bidder for Keeper.

Also selling at €3,100 was “Elite Kitty ET” an Aultside Hulk (LM2133) daughter. Kitty has a muscle score of 123 and a skeletal score of 117. She was bred by Ed Tynan and purchased by Brian Frawley, Croagh, Co. Limerick.

Melvin Masterson sold his two first prize winning Commercial heifers, the first of these an Elite Forever Brill ET daughter born in February 2016 sold for €3,500. Melvin’s Huntershall Gladiator heifer born in January 2015 sold for €2,500.

Subsequent to the sale Lot 5 Ernevalley Kodac ET was purchased by an Irish farmer for €10,000. Kodac who was 1st in his class the previous day at the National show is sired by Crossdykes Goliath and his dam is Dinmore Gena
