Limousin was very much to the forefront of all breeds at Cappamore show which was held on Saturday 15th August at its showground’s in Portnard. This was the 61st Anniversary of the show, which during this time has cemented its position as the leading agricultural show in Limerick, this is thanks in no small part to a hugely enthusiastic local committee. Well known South West club members Sean and Paddy Ryan are instrumental in helping with the organisation and running of this their local show, Paddy has been involved as Secretary for the past 56 years.

Cappamore Show was delighted to host the Commercial Limousin Breeding Heifer of the Year competition, which is run by the Irish Limousin Cattle Society. A large entry of commercial heifers vied for this prestigious title and substantial prize money.

The coveted Overall Cappamore Show Champion Sash went to “Drummin Kailee ET” – an exceptional January born heifer calf from the Drummin herd of John McInerney, Bunratty, Co. Clare. Kailee is a daughter of Wilodge Vantastic and Drummin Cliona ET. Cliona has produced numerous prize winning cattle.

Commercial Limousin Breeding Heifer of the Year

This year along with the usual Limousin classes Cappamore show in county Limerick hosted the Limousin Breeding Heifer of the Year competition. A large entry of commercial heifers vied for this prestigious title under the vigilant gaze of Judge William Smith (of the noted Milbrook herd).

William had an arduous task to judge this wonderful class of eye-catching heifers. After much consideration a winning heifer was tapped forward – “Elsa” the property of Derrick Forde and his young daughter Caoimhe. The Forde’s farm in Corrandulla, Co. Galway. Elsa was born in October 2014 to a BBX dam, her sire is Milbrook Dartangan (MBP). Elsa is no stranger to rosettes this year in Tullamore she won the Best Butcher’s heifer class, she was also placed 4th in the Commercial Replacement Breeding heifer class (out of a class of 28) and 5th out of a field of 37 in the Best Heifer with no Permanent Teeth class. Derrick has had great success with this bloodline, he sold Elsa’s full sister “Galway Girl” to Gareth Corrie & Johnny Neill in Northern Ireland. Galway Girl was Commercial Champion at NI Limousin Championships in 2014. She was also 1st prize winner in the Heifer class at the Royal Highland show in 2014.
