Cappamore Show 2014

Cappamore Show, which is held in the rural heartland of CountyLimerick, held its 60th anniversary show on Saturday the 16th August in the showgrounds in Portnard.

Year on year since its inception this shows cattle section has been very well supported. This year the show was delighted to host the All Ireland Limousin heifer finals.

Jim Quail of the Lynderg herd based in Banbridge, Co. Down officiated as judge for the Limousin Classes.

The first class to be judged was the Young Stockperson, this competition is split between boys and girls 16 years and younger. With large entries in both classes, the judges Elaine Henelly and Tom Hickey had a tough assignment. Irish Limousin Young Member Orla Curtin, Clarina, Co. Limerick was the successful winner in the girls section. Orla showed Roundhill I-Giroflee 1499 ET from the herd of Tim and Doreen Corridan.

The Overall Limousin Champion titles went to two heifers that were fresh from their very successful outings at the National Show in Tullamore,Champion was awarded to “Elite Hostess ET” from the herd of Dan Tynan. “Roundhill I Unamine 1440”, an Elite Forever Brill daughter, from Limerick breeders Tim and Doreen Corridan picked up the Reserve Champion sash.

In the very keenly contested Interbreed Pairs Competition the red rosette was won by the entrants from the Tynans yard: “Carwin Hillery” and “Elite Hostess ET”. These heifers were then joined by their stable-mate “Elite Hope ET” and went on to take the Group of Three award.

Here at the South West Limousin Club we would like to express our gratitude to all involved in Cappamore show for the welcome received and the timely running of operations. Year on year Cappamore show is going from strength to strength, this year (its 60th Anniversary) was no exception. There was a wonderful display and large entries of cattle in all competitions.

Great credit is due to the organising committee and especially to Paddy Ryan (show secretary), and Sean Ryan (co-ordinator and MC at the cattle section) for their dedication to the show. Paddy and Sean are themselves cattle breeders of note, they run the Sliabh Felim Limousin herd and have had much success with both pedigree and commercial cattle.

Thanks must also go to the Limousin exhibitors, many of whom travelled long distances, to the stewards, the Judge Mr. Jim Quail and a special word of thanks to the Sponsors of all events.
