The second of the Irish Limousin Society Spring Sales took place in Athenry Mart Co. Galway on Thursday 15th April 2010.

Trade was steady with a 57% clearance and an average of €2120. Top price on the day at €3400 went to Wood Road Evan a 1st prize winner from the Wood Road Herd, Castleconnell. Co. Limerick. This January born bull by Sympa and the prolific Ov Nadia B. Wood Road Evan joins the suckler herd of Charles Joyce, Corofin, Co. Galway.

The second highest price of €3350 went to Peter Kelly Kilchreest Co. Galway for Castleboy DJ, a Mas Du Clo son out of the Ibis bred dam Castleboy Sue. DJ had been placed Reserve Male Champion earlier on the day by the judge Mr Jimmy Mc Hugh from the Kilmactrasna Herd in Co. Monaghan. DJ was purchased by the well known suckler farmer Michael Murphy Cummer Tuam Co. Galway.

Next highest price at €3000 went to Newtown Deane the Male Champion from the herd of Stanley Richardson Newtowngore Co. Leitrim. Deane is by Newtown Bunty a Mas Du Clo son and by a Malibu dam Newtown Veronica. He was purchased by Brendan Reilly Ballyglass Claremorris Co. Mayo.

Sean Lyons from Ruan Co. Clare received € 2700 for Ruan Donie by Honeylodge Admiral and Ruan Vindigo.Donie boasts a 5 star rating for milk and was purchased by PJ Flannery, Mulpit, Athenry.

  • € 2600 to Mark Clune Feakle Co. Clare for a Mas Du Clo son.

The Female Champion Groe Dawn a Rocky sired heifer from the herd of Pat J. Kenny Moylough Ballinasloe Co. Galway.The Dam of Dawn is Groe Vichy by the sire Ferry . This heifer failed to meet her reserve price in the sales ring.

Reserve Champion heifer was awarded to Brooklands Dina from the herd of Clive Jennings Boulteen Enniskeane Co. Cork. Dina is by Ballyline Uppie a Mas Du Clo son and from the Ferry sired dam Kylea Alison. Dina failed to meet her reserve price in the sales ring.

The next society sale is the Premier Sale in Roscrea Mart on Monday 10th May followed by the last spring sale in Roscommon Mart on Saturday 15th May.
