Athenry Society Show & Sale Catalogue - 17th April 2014

 

Athenry Sale – Thursday April 17th 2014

The Irish Limousin Cattle Society will host its annual Athenry Show and Sale at Athenry Mart on Thursday the 17th April, 2014. The show will commence at 9 am which will be followed by the sale starting at 1 pm.

There is a catalogue entry of 85 bulls and one heifer.The bulls come from a total of 45 different sires while the heifer is a daughter of Sympa. The bulls on offer range in age from 12 to 23 months. With such a vast number of sires represented – there will be a bull here in Athenry to suit any farming type.

The Society offers a finance scheme to help spread the cost of purchasing a bull – to find out more details and to avail of this scheme please contact the office at 025-85036.

South West Club – Commercial Breeding Heifer Sale

On Wednesday 9th April, 2014, the South West Limousin Club held a Commercial crossbred breeding heifer show and sale. This event was hosted by Castleisland Mart.

Before the sale the heifers were judged by Mr. John O’Connor of the Gleanasmole herd based in Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. John awarded first prize to a May 2012 born daughter of Rocky, this heifer was exhibited by a local suckler farmer. John awarded second prize to an 18 month old heifer exhibited by Paul Looney. Inaugural ILCS Tullamore sale

Tullamore, Co. Offaly played host to the second society show and sale for 2014 on Saturday March 22nd. This was the first ever Irish Limousin Cattle Society sale at this venue. The current gruelling weather and difficult trading conditions resulted in a disappointing clearance rate, however, purchasers were willing to pay for chosen genetics.

Judge at the sale was Mr. Michael Pat Murphy of the Ballybawn Herd, based in Ballydehob, Co. Cork.
